I wish they could turn down the glow on the players when the gem is activated.
I don’t see how NUMBER of mechanics is a problem.
But who where would Capcom have gotten the money for those characters without Sony paying them?
Yes. These characters only exist because Sony is paying for them. Otherwise we’d have zero guests and zero characters to replace them.
Remember, in development, time = money. In other words, money covers any extra manhours needed to add in those characters.
And before anyone asks, my day job is as Project Manager for our firms internal development section.
More moving parts a machine has, the higher the chance of breakage.
DLC characters make me cry at night. I’m very disappointed because i know there’s not a damn thing i can do about it but pay up for 4 characters I probably won’t even play.
Well your later example did just horrible even without many “official features”.
Also you need to remember that mechanics=game rules.
“Being able to mash reversal without dropping the low block” is also a result of several rules within the game, even if it’s not a publicized feature like “ultras!”

The glow is fundamental part of gameplay. We designed game around ugly seizure inducing glow. You may choose to close your eyes and ignore the glow.
I’ll wait for the $3 DLC that tones the glow down

$1.50 for permission to physically avert your gaze from the glow. Extra $1 charge for a beeping indicator noise that tells you when the glow is over so you can look at the screen again.

I’ll be honest, my real issues with the game are the DLC and the fact that is just looks BORING. Every time I see gameplay footage, I get unhype. Then I gotta go back and watch those cinematic trailers to feel hype again. Crossarts and gems and pandora and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
The Street fighter characters look stale and rehashed, with their character models and most of their normals being taken from sf4. The Tekken characters for the most part look boring and generic, not really seeming to have made their transition into 2d well at all. The “guest” characters just don’t work for me, I don’t care about any of em. The supers all look hella similar in terms of use, to the point where they all functionally look like the same move. I know they AREN’T, but they all just blur together when I watch them.
If the gameplay footage just made the characters look even half as interesting as the cinematic trailers made them look, the hype would overflow. As is…zzzzzzzzzzz

my problem with this game is that the core mechanics (and I don’t include gems, cause I’m not dumb enough to believe that the game was built around them) look promising and the game very fun, especially when I see gameplay footage from people who already know what they’re doing.
But everything else is just a concentration of things I hate:
-pre-order exclusive content
-Limited edition exclusive content
-pay to unlock stuff that is on the disc
-overpriced dlcs for stuff that used to be a basic feature (in this case alternate costumes)
-dlc charactes
-dlcs for stuff required to play the game
-unlockable characters
-dlc to unlock those characters
-stupid mechanics that the game didn’t really need
DLC characters is what I hate the most…I’ll definitely not buy them as soon as the game comes out (cause I still may not like it and drop it after a month) and will try to resist the urge of buying them as long as I can.
As for dlc gems, I won’t buy them even if they are allowed in tournaments.

Not saying it’s a good thing or a bad thing… But Capcom is creating a whole group of “Why buy an incomplete game when i can Torrent the whole thing DLC included”

Which is why the PC version won’t be out for a while and why a lot of games aren’t released on the PC anymore. Piracy is much easier to do on it than console.
