I used to stay in Japan and seen a lot of r&b singers perform there (especally Boyz II Men). they really appreciate American r&b muisc. You will see a lot of “Japanese exclusive” tracks if you compare the US and Japanese release ( compare Mariah Carrey’s US and Import releases). I’m guessing Japan gets extra tracks because the music is so damn expensive. I remember paying 3,000 yen (30 US) just for an album.
