The Official R&B and Slow Jams news, reviews, and stuff thread

so is the new robin thicke good?

Also posted in the currently listening thread, but this is appropriate too.

Seal does homage to Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Now, that’s smooth.

What genre does The Love Below fall under and what other albums can you compare it with? I’m thinking it’s a Neo-Soul album even though it’s more upbeat and despite some rapping in it. And it’s not rap because if you bring it up in a hiphop community, they say it’s not really hiphop, it just led to killing Outkast, and all that controversy. Whatever. I thought it was genius and easily one of the best albums this decade.

Wow. That’s hot. :hitit:

EDIT :I could not compare it to anything out there now. *The Love Below *is a breakout title that doesn’t belong to a specific genre. R n B if anything.

hmm I don’t know, maybe kanye west’s upcoming album?

Yeah the album was really great. It showcased Outkast’s ability in making different albums and dipping into other types of genres.

Stevie Wonder appreciation

As much classic r&b I listen to, I’ve never seriously listened to Stevie Wonder. Here is the old man typical rant ," they don’t make music like this anymore"

Never dreamed you’d leave in summer

I Love Every Little Thing About You

You are the sunshine of my life

Knocks Me Off My Feet ( when I was a kid, I thought Donell Jones was the original. just fooud out the original after all these years)

Lately ( was reintroduced in my generation as a cover from Jodeci for MTV’s Unplugged)

What happened to MTV’s unplugged? that was a good show and one of the real music shows from MTV.

two upcoming albums i’m waiting for: Jon B, Monica. Monica is saying she wants to go back to her roots with her latest album a la " for you I will" " why I love you so much" " before you walk out of my life"

i liked the robin thicke album. been listening to it for a few days now.

Is it better than his last album?..

haven’t really listened much on his 1st album to compare, but i feel that his albums are pretty solid and are worth listening to.

Hip-Hop/soul i guess. have u peeped Cee-lo’s first two solo cds? 3stacks is on his own lane, but he did borrow a lil bit from Cee-lo. i’d rank Cee-Lo Green… Is the Soul Machine above TLB.

and it didn’t kill Outkast. Andre killed Outkast.

i didn’t like this robin thicke cd as much as the last one. Complicated was just too good on his last album.

Picked up the new John Legend cd. Again, I liked his last album more. Early favorite on it is Quickly featuring Brandy.

Jon B has released a new album a couple of weeks ago. Hopeless Romantic

I just bought today and from first listen through, I liked it. Production wise, different, but any new r&b is rare it seems nowadays.

I didn’t know this, but Mariah Carey released a “ballads” collection album. Looking at the track listing, this is better then her greatest hits album that was released some time ago. For some strange reason, Mariah’s Ballads album was not released in the States (yet). Import prices might be worth it for this album.

  • 90’s R Kelly > 2000’s R Kelly

You’re talking about one of my favorite tracks: Moments in Love by Art of Noise

The extended version of that song gets weird…I think its like 12 minutes long

Sure is.

Maxwell is comming out with a new album. He was one of my favs back in the day. Guess he’s gonna release 3 cd’s over the next 3 years.
