The Official PS3 thread

So far I love the game for its scale and unique mechanics. However, I still like the feel of Bayonetta’s combat system. With this game, I don’t “feel” like I am hitting anything. There is no sign like the blades slowing down or differences in the recovery time from move to move. Plus, the double jump seems trick. If you do it at a “bordered” ledge, you can’t do it, but you have to leap off prior to the edge to be successful. I also happened to find a glitch (not one of the good kind) too

GOW Glitch

Spoiler

In Tarturus, after you fight the “Rock Lords” with the hammer for the first time, there is a pathway to the left with entrance that has glowing light below it. As I got closer, the light looked like a Kratos was having an acid trip and and his image was replicatiing over and over in the space. When you glide across and get to the entrance, It’s a cliff, so I died at least 6 times thinking it was a visual trick. When I reloaded the checkpoint of try 7, walked till I could see it, turned around and walked to the other side of the room before you drop off the ledge, and presto it was normal. I could get past that part without dying. Wierd huh?

I have a 20 dollar gift card on amazon thanks to my pre-orders of FFXIII and GoW III so I’ll probably pick up Resonance of Fate since it’ll be less than 40 dollars.

There are a lot of glitches in GoW3. The game isn’t very polished past the opening in terms of bugs and glitches.

Exactly.
Talk about inane ranting, holy crap.

My GoW3 ultimate arrived at DHL in Miami yesterday, so I’m hoping to get it this afternoon. I personally love the artbooks and soundtracks, which are the two main reasons why I get CE’s. Figures are kinda cool too, but ultimately not the reason why I buy the Collector’s versions of games.

^lol

Okay, I thought it was just me. The clipping seems to be off in a lot of ways. This game looks great. Functionally, it can be asinine.

I think this will remain on rental status. Playin the game on hard. The mechanics kill me more than the enemies (short jumping, Icarus lift not remaining open the proper amount of time, etc)

I haven’t encountered any glitches in GOW3 thus far. But I too have been killed more due the game itself than the enemies.

Use the auto-notify feature from NewEgg.com. Just make sure that you order it right away when they e-mail you that it’s in stock because they obviously sell out fast. I was able to find one using this. They should be in stock tomorrow.

I have died about 50+ times. about 40 of those are because of the game. The other 10, I fucked up

-The battle system is in some ways better and worse than SO3. MP death was removed, and so was the fury gauge. Shields are gone too. Weak/strong attacks are gone, but characters still have long/short X attacks, plus command normals (left stick + X), and different attacks for juggled enemies. There are ways to hit downed enemies now.

-The fury gauge was replaced with the Rush gauge, which is basically a way for characters to go into K-groove. When it’s active, characters get super armor, move faster, and the critical hit rate goes way up. Enemies also have rush gauges, which is visible (as well as their HP gauge).

-Rush Combo is new. It lets you perform your specials without retaliation from the enemy, and if your allies are close enough, they can join in and do their specials too (not at the same time). You can rack up big damage with Rush combos, and you can use it to interrupt the enemy’s attack.

-Blindsides let you get behind an enemy unnoticed, allowing for easy criticals for a short time. Blindsides are different for each character, and some are better than others. Some enemies have blindside counters, where you take damage during your blindside, and lose part of your bonus gauge. You can still get damaged by things other than a counter, so blindsides aren’t always a free pass. It isn’t something you will use often, but it’s nice to have.

-Bonus gauge is better in SO4; it doesn’t break completely this time, and you have direct control over what bonuses you want to receive.

-Special skill system is also better in this game; skills are now assigned to the trigger buttons, and powering them up requires spending skill points instead of frequent use. You’ll eventually be able to assign up to 3 skills per button, so cancel combos are more varied now. Sklls use only MP.

-Item Creation in SO4 is (IMO) the best one yet. Basically, once you invent an item, you’ll always have the recipe. After that, it’s just a matter of finding the ingredients. Nice and simple…should’ve been like that from the beginning. Item synthesis got nerfed a bit. You can only add four factors to an item now, and any other additional boosts will go towards the item’s stats only. You can still make powerful stuff, just not broken ones.

-You’re probably one of the very few people who liked SO3’s story (I did too). SO4’s story is more standard…there’s nothing shocking or controversial like SO3’s plot twist. All Private actions take place on your ship, making them easier to get.

-I’m still in the middle of the post-game dungeons. The dungeon I’m currently in has randomly generated maps, and the maps get larger the deeper you go. I have no idea how big it is, and it sucks because if you leave, you have to start over, and you have to fight all the bosses again. It’s one of those dungeons where you have to invest a lot of time into it in one sitting. I’m hoping that you don’t have to get all the way to the end boss in one go, and without a save point (please, tri-Ace…have mercy!!). When you first walk into a bonus dungeon, the difficulty spike is like running into a brick wall. I’m just gonna let you know ahead of time: do a lot of preparation before you set foot in a dungeon. Level up, and synthesize some good shit to your gear.

-SO4 begins the same way as all the other games: you crash-land on an underdeveloped planet, and you end up using a “primitive” weapon (guess which one) to defeat your first enemy. You won’t stay on that one planet for too long since there aren’t any towns in it, but you will spend a good deal of time visiting other underdeveloped planets.

-The dungeons aren’t that much better in this game. You do get full access to the map this time, but the problem is the dungeons are huge, and there are few save points. It’s not uncommon to spend over an hour in the average dungeon. Now that I think about it, doesn’t SO3’s dungeons have the same problems as SO4’s? It’s been a while since I’ve played the game, so some things are fuzzy.

-Story progression is still slow. The end game is crazy…I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say that if you die, you’ll have a lot of work to do again, and there’s no way around it. The nice thing is that you can skip events, and if you do, you’ll get a summary of what happened in that event.

Sorry for the long post, but I don’t think saying “this game sucks” or “this game is awesome” without an explanation was going to cut it. For what it’s worth, I’ve spent 111 hours playing the game to date, so I clearly like the game. I’ve spent over 100 hours playing SO3 too. Hopefully you can make a decision based on what I wrote. If you need me to clarify anything, go ahead and ask.

the fact that killer moves are back on the triggers and not damn “hold button longer” makes the combat in so4 soooo much better than so3 to me

Yeah I find it weird that Kazuma has to re-build trust as well. I guess it’s for more gameplay elements. It should at least start at C IMO. I did hear the news on the project K development. It does sound interesting, if this game indeed covers a kid I think it will play more like Shenmue but then again Yakuza 3 is the closest thing to Shenmue thus far.

welcome to 20 years ago. why not look for the cheapest versions instead? my lil bros actually asked me if i wanted to invest in the eu version of the special collection, fuck that shit. just give me the damn game, if its possible for 20 or 30 bucks.

Ugh, gonna return Warhawk and buy Uncharted 2. Gave it a good two hours and I cant get into it at all.

FUCK…RoF was delayed till tomorrow in Toronto. Apparently the 360 version is available but the PS3 version got delayed. I don’t know what the problem is.

ModNation Racers Release Date, Pre-Orders and Box Art!

Basically…depending on where you pre-order, you get bonus Mods:

Order from Amazom, and you get Ratchet/Clank and their spacecar
Order from Gamestop, and you get Kratos and the Kart of Chaos
Order from Best Buy, and you get Nathan Drake and his Jungle Jeep

Also…all pre-orders get an additional BONUS Mystery Mod and Kart package that include not just a special Mod and Kart, but additional accessories that you can use to make your own creations.

For the short time I had the beta…I had alot of fun playing Modnation. I’ll probably pre-order for the PS3, then pick up the PSP port later in the year.

I can’t seem to find any PS3s in Best Buys for the last few weeks. I frequent about 3 different ones too. Last time I saw a PS3 at retail was in Sears 2 weeks ago.

I wonder if a new sku is coming out? Seems like they are running out all over the place.

Waiting on Sony or Square to say anything about a bunch of people having their ps3s fuck up because of FF.

I put this in the ff13 thread and might as well put it here too. A Quick summary, ff13 has the tendency to kill your ps3. Word is sony is blaming issue on scratch disks and Square is blaming on ps3 hardware problem. No one has stepped up to take the blame.

Just for precautions im going to limit my play time daily, just cuz im paranoid.

i dont get it, how is no one talking about kane and lynch 2, the trailers released for this game look fucking AMAZING, like some of the best shit i have seen. here is the new one.

im outi
