The Official PS3 thread

I’ve been on the fence about RDR for the longest time. It’s on my “if I get around to it I’ll play it” list.

RDR, too many distractions to keep me involved. It’s on my shelf with my other backlogged games.

It’s better to me than GTAIV though.

It was the first game that I picked up for the PS3. I did wished I waited for the price to drop but meh I felt it was worth the $60.

I liked it, for what it was but to those complaining about how long it took you to get to one place to the other, are you serious?

It’s set in the past where horses was your main source of transportation. What were you expecting? A robot unicorn?!

My only gripes was the ending, the cougars and how easy your horse could die… by anything. I’ve been blind sided by those cougars a dozen times. I remember that I was in TT after I finished a mission, I saw a fox running right past me like a bat out of hell. So, I thought to myself, “Hey, haven’t skinned one of those yet”. Before I could decided on pulling out my rifle, a damn cougar bitched slapped and killed me and my horse in one hit from behind. Since that was the first time that it happen, I laughed it off. after the 3rd-5th time and getting jumped by two at a time, i had to sit the controller down and play something else so after beating the game I could care less about the other scraps achievements. The ending for me was way too generic especially for a Western Cowboy story. I just couldn’t understand why this foo’ didn’t get any dynamite or had some in stash. could’ve prevented a stupid ending IMO.

As for the DLC, yea, not interested. RS should’ve made the original ending a “what if” side story instead of making you play this epic failure of an ending mission(s). they probably could’ve had the “final boss” be more of a bigger battle instead of this “last point” of the game where it seemed “hopeless to get out alive” which made no sense. You come across tons of points of the game where it seemed you couldn’t survive (from the character’s POV) but your character makes it through.

Overall, I think the game was fun, but I wish that you could have done more with the women a la GTA4. Especially if you chose to be a villain, but robbing the Mexican hookers was fun… until I had to shank a few. Also, the side missions were pretty lame at times, sometimes redundant.

I just recently bought RDR. I absolutely love it. However, I love games that let you go at your own pace, an open world and give you a whole lotta random shit to do.

I also love Yakuza. =]

RDR was okay for the amount of stuff you could do, but I don’t think the game offered much outside of the initial play through. The story is a straightforward revenge plot with background details supplied through repetitive dialogue (and ending FTL). Shooting was either brain dead easy or a pain in the ass depending on what aiming mode you used (i.e. don’t go in expecting a shooter). Collecting stuff and side quests were typical; mini games were kind of fun once you learned them, but I didn’t find them fun enough to go back after getting the achievements. I only played the pre-DLC multiplayer briefly, without anyone to co-op with, so I can’t say much about the MP (but it’s no U2 :wgrin:).

Went back to Sengoku Basara after a long hiatus. As far as sheer enjoyment goes, it’s probably my personal GOTY.

Dead Nation finally drops tomorrow. With this game, Stardust, and Outland (looks very promising) under its belt, Housemarque is on a roll.

**I’ve been wanting to upgrade my 80gb fat PS3 for awhile now and have finally decided to go for it but I need some help. I’ve seen some videos on how to do it but i’m unsure on what to buy as far as a internal HDD and a external HDD. **
I don’t want to buy something that isn’t compatible.

**For the internal HDD I’ve been looking at this one… Amazon.com: Western Digital 640 GB 5400rpm SATA2 8 MB 2.5-Inch Notebook Hard Drive WD6400BEVT (Scorpio Blue): Electronics Is this any good? **

**And for the External I’ve been looking at this one… Amazon.com: Seagate Expansion 250 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST902504EXA101-RK: Electronics **

**Again, any good? **

And do I even need an external HDD or can I use some other means to back up my files and saves?

** If I do have to use an external HDD, the videos I have watched says I need to format it to a FAT32 but they don’t tell me how to. **

**I know this question has been asked and answered before with a (I believe) step by step guide but I was unable to find it. So any help that can be given will be appreciated. **
Thanks!

Scorpio Blues from WD have always been good. A Seagate’s 2.5 HDD gave me the click of death when I was playing AC2, and the whole system would freeze. Swapped it for a WD Scorpio Blue 500GB and it’s been working fine.

I heard Seagate’s Expansion line of externals tend to break easy too.

I’m weary, since I got a 2TB Seagate external off BF for $65.

EDIT: Looks like Seagate hasn’t learned its lesson. The model I ordered got a 1 -star review on Best Buy already.

Consider also that if you just get a 2.5" SATA enclosure, you can use the drive that is currently in your PS3 as a backup drive, and save yourself the cost of a full external. (You can find enclosures that go for about $10-15)

Man fuck neoSRK. Quadruple post? Really?

This to the tenth. Shit gets hectic as hell FAST. I remember in the middle of a bounty hunting mission I got sidetracked by doing challenges. I need to get around to playing it again. Since RoF is out of the backlog and into the ‘Now Playing’ I might trade FONV for RDR cause its been mad glitchy.

**Ok so the scorpio blue is a good and trusted internal hdd provider then and Seagate brands aren’t reliable. ******

**@ Rampage - How does a **2.5" SATA enclosure **work? **

**I’m guessing I just plug it into my PS3 and copy all my files and saves unto it, is that right? **

**And… Would I need to format it to FAT32? **

Liking Undead Nightmare so far…

copped bomberman for 5 bux. anyone else have it?

I second the WD Scorpio Blue, I’ve had a 500GB HDD in my PS3 for the past year and a half.

Enclosure is just a case for you to put your old HDD into, it’s as simple as matching the HDD/enclosure connections and then sliding the HDD into the enclosure and screwing it shut.

Windows won’t format a drive larger than 32gb normally in FAT32. So you’ll have to reformat the drive with an outside program. I used swissknife (google it).

My PS3 won’t read the FFXIII disc. I pop it in but nothing happens and the game disc icon never appears. ANyone else had that?

I’m assuming you’ve popped in other BD’s and you’ve had no problem? Tried another copy of FFXIII?

I’ve tried Blu ray movies, dvd movies, I also tried Bayonetta, Batman AA, 3d world heroes. FFXIII is the only one that don’t work. It’s odd because it worked fine before my ps3 got fixed by sony. I haven’t tried another copy of it YET.

I will resist the urge to make an FFXIII based joke. I will resist the urge to make an FFXIII based joke.

…Fuck it. It’s because your PS3 physically refuses to play that garbage.

Anyway, I thought about trying RDR. Not big on Westerns in movie or game format, but that game seems like a lot of fun.

Fuck you FF13 was baller. You put Gambit system int hat shit and you have a perfect RPG combat system.

Even better would be armor that you can see when you equip it on yoru dudes.
