I shut it “off” through the menu, not via the switch in the back.

It happens. All that really matters to me is that my team wins. I can’t stand hearing team chatter (I LOVE team chatter, but wait for the second part)…and turning a corner and seeing 2 characters just sitting there, talking to each other and basically being potential free kills. My other peeves are teammates who grenade me for a weapon I have that they want, and the COD idiots who are always complaining about you “taking their kill”. I play for the TEAM to win, fuck personal glory. I’ve seen too many times how one guy tells you to back off, and gets owned by his target. Just get in there, have fun, and do your best.
Like the 360 issue (and also issues with PC gpu’s crapping out) it’s strictly heat related. Things heating up and then cooling off will cause issues over time. It can mess up all sorts of things.
The conditions you keep it in, short of slapping it in a contained space and running it till you melt it, really don’t have much to do with this. It’s the change in temperature from hot to cold that causes it. Thus leaving the system running 24/7 isn’t really going to hurt it, nor is a bit of dust or something like that, nor does having the thing run hot as balls, as long as the cool down period isn’t very rapid.
The killer is that with items that get turned on and off all the time they go from running full bore to rapid cool down, which is not what you want at all. And the older models have chips based on an older tech, so they get hotter under load. Keeping things cool is nice and all, but if the cool down period is long enough even on something running hot it’s a non issue.
All this stuff is cropping up now because of dumb lead free and other nonsense. The actual chips aren’t boiling away, but the hot/cold cycle will cause solder and BGA issues on the newer more environmentally friendly materials. You can always reflow things to fix it (not hard) if you want. The cooler running newer chips just don’t cause temperature fluctuations large enough to cause this issue.
You could have a system in the best condition, dust free, and if the temps change rapidly enough, enough times, it’s simply going to fail.
I just hit “mute all” ever since my first game where I got a kill with the shotgun and someone started screaming racial slurs directed at me.

I love leaving the voice chat on, because I like to talk shit and make people laugh while we play. The last big SRK session I was a part of, it was too good. It was me, Gasaraki, RadiantSilvergun, ChrisB85, and this one other guy who left the other team to join ours 
So many good laughs were had. One of the funnest U2 sessions I have ever had. Playing with chat on is the way to go. :tup:
The racial slurs come with every game, I just play off of their rage and make more jokes.
