Didn’t know they offered versions with control panels built in. That’s nice. My biggest problem with it before this option was the panel “table” was at the right height already, so adding a stick on top made it too high. I saw a few of these at SCR and at Evo last year. The cabinet itself looked really well done.
Of course you’ll still need a TV/monitor and audio setup on top of the cost of the cabs. Plus I have no idea what parts and controller PCBs they are using in their control panel. According to the website, seems to be a wooden panel mount like how MAS sticks work, which would be some significant work if you want to throw in Sanwa/Seimetsu parts. Aside from that, I like everything else about the panel, including the power switch and LEDs.
To compare, I bought a 32" Noir knockoff a few months ago for about $1400. It was more or less ready to go for consoles/PC + it works with JAMMA. YMMV of course but that’s my comparison. And good luck finding these types of cabs domestically. With some work and additional options for the control panel, this wouldn’t be a bad alternative IMO.
These are a huge price bump compared to the original cabs. Its almost double in price w/ the added control panel. I have yet to see these in person though but my worries is actually trying to move these cabs. Doesn’t seem like there is an option to remove the control panel like the Kraylix, so its pretty much dismantle it to fit through your regular door. I like how you can customize them though, i might pick up two if i ever i have the space.
The rec sit down looks really cool. I’d avoid their control panel due to the reasons stated above, better to get the blank panel and route it for Japanese parts. A simpler option would be to get a metal 2p panel (like the ones Jasen Hicks makes), cut out a section of the wood panel, then bolt in the metal one. I recall seeing a thread here where someone did the same thing with two TE panels, it looked pretty good.
unfortunately for me I have no idea how to do any type of wiring or woodwork so it would seem that would be out of the question. Any good resources to use to learn that kind of stuff?
Lots of help to be found right here in tech talk. Slagcoin is a great place to learn all about this stuff.
What system(s) do you want to use with it? There are a few controller pcb’s out there that are really simple to hook up (as in no soldering needed).
As for the woodwork, the easiest method would be to get a cut out tool (I recall seeing one on Amazon for $30-$40). Cut out the area where the buttons and sticks mount, then bolt a metal panel on. You could avoid buying a metal panel with a drill, the proper hole saws/forstner bits/spade bits and a router, but buying those tools would boat the cost significantly.
just pc and ps3 for now. I’ll just keep the ps4 on the main tv since that will be the main console plus no fighting games or arcade sticks are available.
Alright so I’ve picked up a couple new goodies and have just been too lazy to post here. Mind the crappy pictures. Rearranging the garage at the moment.
Picked this up back in October. Was so happy to find this game only about an hour away. It was a bitch to pick up though since the dude had it in his basement. We had to disassemble the damn thing to get it trough the door and onto the truck.
Then I just picked this up a couple days ago.
Found this a couple hours away. The guy I got it from had no idea how it worked. He said it would power on,but the games wouldn’t boot. So I pop it open and take a look around and see a JAMMA harness just dangling there. Said that’s how it was ever since he first got it.
His face turned so red when I said "Uhhhh…what’s wrong is that there appears to be no game in here."
Only paid 150 for it. That being said I’m now on the hunt for a MVS board. Haha.
I keep my eyes peeled, and if I see anything I send you a link.
Also check out the NEO GEO forums, http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/forum.php
They can help you sort out what you might need, and there market boards sometimes have some great stuff.
Since you’re starting out, i would suggest trying to go for a bundle. You will save more that way & have games to play. Although originals are always best, the Neo-geo multi carts are actually pretty good & cheap.
From what I understood from the NEO GEO forums consensus and what I tried out, it is the Multigame 161 IN 1
As it has the widest range of possible titles. There are 97 Legit Individual games, 64 games are Bootlegs/Hacked versions many are pretty much duplicates.
I have this, it works excellent. Loading time is longer than the boards without the sub board, but you can just remove all of the games you never play. Most clones just differ in that they have all secret characters unlocked from the get-go if that’s your thing. It’s still a bitch to track one of these down though. I got mine from jammaboards.com, but it was their last copy in stock IIRC.
Its just a sub board, i dont see the big deal. The best part is that you can actually edit the game list. There are also some good games that are not available in the 161 in 1…Too bad they are so hard to find.
Here is the comparison chart so you have an idea what games are what in each cart. As of right now, 161 in 1 is the best available to get & they are cheap. Less then $90 shipped in most places. The only game these multi-boards dont have that i really want is Windjammers.
I find the Multi Carts is better to sample the catalog rather than having a legit library.
Too many hacked/fake versions of games added to the cart.
Now its too bad someone didn’t make a nice MVS Flash Cart.
Closest thing to that is the PC to NEO program that works in conjunction with the newest Uni bios and a custom cable
