I have a question that hopefully you guys can help me with…

I recently bought an empty Blast City and plan to hook up a 360 to it but wanted to know how I could go about doing that… I know that the Nanao 29 monitor is the best thing for it but I cannot find any for sale anywhere online. Is there any other moniter that would work as well?

And once I purchase a monitor how would I hook it all up?.. Please keep in mind that this is my first arcade build so I have no knowledge of arcade monitors.

I dont want to have to resort to mounting a TV in there and settling for that.

Thanks for your input

Super Turbo has moved in to give me a Big Blue ‘row’:

What do you do for a living to make enough money for all that?

Most monitors on the market now supports HDMI and DVI; and most still support VGA. Newer Xbox 360 models support HDMI (Since the Elite) , if you monitor lacks HDMI you can get a HMDI to DVI adapter. Worst case scenario you just use the VGA cord for the Xbox 360. Everything else is very straight forwards.

Dude I’m so glad that Super Turbo came in the proper CPS2 Qsound cab. I JUST recently Put the world overlay on my blue cab. NOW CHANGE THE BATTERY ON THE BOARD!!!
Congrats!!

Yeah…a battery change is def the first thing I need to do.

Damn you Capcom and your suicide batteries!

There’s an auction for working qsound amps. My new astro didn’t have one. If I buy one can I plug it into my nac speaker loom (assuming that it also has a loom to attack it to the powersupply) and then attach the rca cables to a computer mobo?

I don’t look at this and think rich. Nicely decorated maybe? Some of the regulars on the Neo-Geo forums have dozens of cabs. They’re expensive compared to a stick but not as spendy as you might think.

The Nanao monitors that came in those cabs were beautiful, however the chassis were junk. The best monitors you can still find for those cabs are the Sanwa PFX Tri-Sync (imo). However you probably won’t be able to find one of those new either.

Here is a monitor you can use, Makvision/Weiya 29 Inch Flat Screen CRT Arcade Monitor: 800x600

It is really nice, but it is a flat screen, and you will need to do some mods to the brackets to get it to fit properly. After you have it installed, just plug in the power cord to an outlet, and it has a d-sub right on the back, so use a VGA connection from your 360 or PC…done.

For the sake of all that is holy, please do not mount a tv, or worse an lcd in it…

I work for 3M but you have to understand that this is a collection that has taken place over a decade. Most of my cabs have been bought off craigslist for 50$ or so then refurbished over time. I really don’t have all that much money invested compared to some people.

Wanted to poke around in here to get inspiration regarding how to spend my tax return. Very nice!

Got my Lenkeng component to VGA box in today. It’s working nicely enough in conjunction with a Xbox/PS2/360 video cable I had. Some games look great and some suffer from motion blur. I guess that’s the nature of the beast with a $40 box.

Thanks for your help guys…

Yeah Fang that is EXACTLY what I dont want to have to do you know cause I will feel like I killed it if I do that…

Thanks for the exact info on the monitor too cause that really helps me out… I will go with that one…

…cheers!.. no, it didn’t come with the cab, i got it from ebay. if you search ebay for “sega sign” you’ll find it. it came with the lamp on top, i took it apart, turned it round and fixed it to the back of the cabinet. looks ace, highly recommended, only cost £18.50 i think!!

get yourself over to arcadeotaku.com, put up a wanted thread…im sure somene will have a monitor for you. i have a pal stays up the road has a spare tri-sync, but we are in the UK, unless you fancy the high shipping, your best to find one not too far from you. tip- search from an old arcade cab with a tri-sync monitor that you can take and bin the rest…

connecting the try-sync to the xbox360 or pc is easy… VGA cable. thats it! to connect a ps3 is costly… you need a HDFury for best results, and an NTSC ps3 (pal ps3 does not do 640x480). hooking up the buttons and joysticks is easy… a ps360 from akihabara shop is what you need.

I agree with this statement, however don’t go looking for another Nanao. Even though it will be easier to install, it will die on you at some point, and the parts to fix it are impossible to find, not to mention most of them are burned in.

I have one monitor that refuses to work with the HDFury, I would have to look to see what kind it is. You can also use a Blaze PS2VGA adapter, (if you can find one) and put your PS3 in SCART 480p mode. It is a pain in the ass to setup, but it works.

There are all sorts of options for every kind of monitor, so get a monitor, then we can help you get it hooked up:)

Sounds good… Yeah I was hoping that there would be other monitors out there that would be compatible and good cause I dont want to risk a used that cant be fixed easily…

Thanks for your suggestions… as soon as I get it I’ll ask if I run into any snags…

How difficult was taking apart the lamp and placing it on the bottom?

So I ended up not being able to get as crispy of a picture as I’d like out of the Xbox1 (component to VGA). It’s MAME PC time. Thankfully I had a spare PC (or three) handy.
