The Official Poker Thread

Thanks. It runs from 5:00 to 1:00 this evening.

I did better than I thought I would, and worse than I hopedā€“meaning, I didnā€™t get far enough to win anything. You had to place ninth to win the minimum prize, which was the return of your entry fee. I placed 18th out of 150 entrants and was alive for about four hours.

I had an okay time, but I had some misgivings about the way the thing was run. I donā€™t know if Iā€™d do it again next year.

LOL

I want to get into Texas Holdā€™em, but I donā€™t know where to start.

Iā€™m a complete noob to Poker. I had no idea what the hands were until last night. Been messing around in free rooms in Pokerstars/FTP.

Where do I begin?

EDIT: Iā€™m reading this thread from the beginning. Starting with Viscantā€™s post about getting started with poker.

read forums, 2+2, play hands and talk to ppl that know how to play poker

  1. watch phil hellmuth

  2. profit

What should I be playing?

Limit or No-Limit?

You must be amazing at poker.

No limit is where its at. Itā€™s more fun and more stuff can happen.

noob question thread necro inc

what happens on an online tournament if there are less people than the places payed? like say there are 100 places payed but only 95 ppl register?

This thread is GDLK, thanks Viscant and the rest for a good read.

The remaining money is spread.

Started playing about a month ago. Two weeks after I started playing I threw $60 on FTP and went on my first tilt session four days in, had a decently bad beat while playing .02/.05 Rush. Lost the $25 that was left in my roll. Lesson learned. Been just playing mad freerolls on PS and FTP while reading and downloading DeucesCracked videos.

So, hand posting time. The question is about the second hand, Iā€™m wondering if my all in call was the proper play or not. I know my play in the first hand was less than stellar, but I still find it acceptable if it were in a cash game setting, but too risky in tournament, correct?

At worst going into the hand you had a 71.81% chance of winning. Obviously could have been even better if someone folded an A or two.

I donā€™t see how that is the wrong play. I just call it bad luck.

Just wanted to make sure I didnā€™t make some obviously stupid play that I didnā€™t notice or something, every time big pockets like that lose I question itā€¦thanks. Any thoughts on the first hand?

Bump/New Thread Anyone?

  • I play at work. Might transfer it to a real place and get my friends to play, at my house, on weekends. I just started about 3 months ago. Thanks to that, Iā€™ve downloaded Heads Up Holdā€™em and Iā€™ve been whoring out Clubhouse Gamesā€™ version. My beef with the latter is that thereā€™s no punishment for owing money, so the CPU will do dumb stuff for 5 rounds.

Is there an easier way to remember hands?

Most people play on real money tables and they save the hand histories automatically so they can just copy and paste them.

Also, started grinding out a little .01/.02 today. I like graphs that look like mine. :lovin: Lets hope it holds!

I just got back from a casino and lost about decent amount for being a first-timer lol. I only played blackjack and roulette. I try looking for a blackjack discussion but couldnā€™t find it so I thought this is a good place to ask where I can get good at blackjack. Any tips?

watch the movie 21 starring kevin spacey

Questions:

  1. Regarding websites, which is better, pokerstars or fulltilt? Do you guys ever get pop up ads from these sites?
  2. What kinds of software have some people been known to use online? I think the term might be ā€œhub.ā€ If this doesnā€™t make sense, then I am thinking of something that keeps track and gives live updates about things like VPIP, %folds, % raises, etcā€¦, or otherwise things that would be banned from casinos.
  3. What books could you recommend for internet poker?
  4. What are the dangers of online poker? By this I mean things like scams, people hacking into your computer, etc. and not things like addiction and losing a lot of money.
  5. How does internet poker differ from live poker (outside of not worrying about giving off physical tells)
  6. What kinds of strategies can you do online that you canā€™t do in a live poker game, if any?
  7. Is there an online poker FAQ I can read?
  8. What do you regret doing when you first started out? (outside of losing lots of money/property)
  9. Is online gambling illegal in some states? Where can I go to find out?
