I need a little advice for buying some new cards, Im probably going to get a couple of sets, but want one set specifically for learning some nice tricks + shuffles. Whats a good brand to go for?
Im trying to get down the boomerang trick, but my current cards suck, I can hardly even bridge shuffle with them half the time.
Ive only really just gotten back into poker after probably almost a year or so out. Online I play on Paradise Poker (SportingOdds), Ive mostly just messed about entering the cash for placement multi tourney free rolls. I had $40 in my account yesterday and decided to throwdown 2 games in 2player tables and lost both, second one should have been mine as I had a good lead at one stage. Tables got turned when I lost to ace high straight, I had 2 pair A+K.
But Im still fairly new to poker, If Im going to play for money, are 2player tables a good idea for me at the moment? I never really noticed until those games started, but 2 player games are very different to what Im actually used to! Seemed like a bit of a harsh enviroment in comparison.
You mean heads up games? They are a lot faster and you pretty much play any good hand dealt to you instead of what youâre used to normally. I tried playing a short handed table after a lot of people left and found that those two weaker players ended up cleaning me out just because the strategies of dealing w/ fewer players versus a full table is a lot different.
So guys do you think this was a poor lack in judgement? I think that what the other guy did was a poor all-in, and I called because I had good odds. Iâm thinking that the call was a very bad idea, i felt it before hand, yet I called anyways.
Lately tonight is one of those bad beat nights. People are getting very lucky on the turn/river and are the kind of players that have no business being in the pot with the hands they have, yet the win due to sheer luck itself. Like for example a few times in one of my last hands, this guy kept getting the same hand as I have, yet, he was playing the board. He had two pair ON THE BOARD (10,10,7,7,J kicker) had absolute garbage in his hand (J,4) while I had (6,6) so my two pair got beat by the board, all because I held a pair in my hand. This happened about three times and they cleaned me out. I played the cards and the chips as best as I could, but nothing could have stopped that just short of folding to these noobs, which wasnât logical considering whatâs on the board.
Itâs hard to analyze a play money hand, because thereâs no thought process at all from most of the players(which is different from micro limit money games in that they have a thought process, itâs just a really shitty one) but one general rule in a shorthanded holdem game, limit or NL really, you should never be first in the pot without raising. Open limping is terrible shorthanded, and there is no reason you should really ever do it. After limping no way Iâm calling a 10x with KTo, their hand ranges are quite ahead of you, you have a reverse implied odds hand, and youâre not very deep after that kind of raise. On the flop its a fold. Now this is all based on me looking at it as a real money hand, as a playmoney hand, preflop I say K hi is the nuts and on the flop top pair is the nuts even more, arrrr in.
Hey is there interest in an SRK tournament again? Post if youâre interested I kinda want to run one, if you dont have $ on stars but still want to play xfers can probably be arranged.
Yeah, the design looks interesting. But they donât really look too good for poker. Especially for Omaha. And I think Bicycle/KEM should of also use the 4 color design for those cards as well.
Also, how will these cards work with 2-7 Triple Draw?
Ok the SRK Preppy Classic is now open for registration on PokerStars for Sunday June 10th at 19:30 Stars time aka EST. Decided to do a small buyin of 5+.50 so that the most people could play and not worry about the money, password is âstairsâ gogogogo
Guys I came back from my local casino (Bicycle) and on the way back I was thinking of what phil ivey said, âAt the end of the day, I always think to myself did I play well? Or did I get the cards?â.
Well, looking back at the hands I won, were: A-10 suited, 2-2, A-A, Q-Q, J-J, and A-10.
My table (100 NL, 2-3$ blinds) was fairly conservative. A few amateurs and a few sharks I recognized right away.
But back to the original question. Is it really possible to win big pots without spectacular hands? Even if you get the pots that you bluff at it, its not really all that much.
Now, if you consider the pot action that goes around in K-K vs A-A, where both players are willing to put all their money on the line. The potential gain/loss is huge.
I did one buy-in at that table and sat there for about 3 hours and made 748 dollars (848 but 100 minus the buy-in). But the majority of it came from the big whale pots. Most pots that I grinded with the medium strength cards only yielded 20~50 bucks.
