K i play informally with friends/family, and a couple ‘o’ issues have cropt up:
Say 3 ppl are in the hand, and player A raises by $50, B matches the raise (puts in $50), but C only has $10. Does C’s all-in $10 go into the existing pot to create a split pot, and any betting after that C cannot particpate in? (ie they can only win the pot they have contributed to?) In this case A nd B could bet for a few more rounds until river card, but if C won the hand they wouldn’t get any of the pot created after C’s all-in?
OR
Same as above but if C wins, the split pot to which C never contributed is split between A and B, AND A and B get $40 back from the main pot (cause C only put in $10 compared to thier $50).
Another query:
A and B have so-called equal hands say A has Q,7 and B has 3,7. Flop comes up as J,7,5,7,9. they both have triple 7’s. Now I thought that if players had a equal hand, the player with the highest “spare” unused card would win; But my cousins insist that the only cards that count are the community cards- it doesn’t matter how high the unused card is, only the hand you make with community cards counts. The pot is then split between the two triple 7’s. Is this correct?
Edit no jutsu: We play Texas no limit Hold 'em BTW
you can only win off people what you put in, so in the first example, c would have a main pot of 10 form each player plus his 10(30), and a side pot of 60 will be made for a and b, which can be added to through the course of the hand
in the second example - you count the 5 highest cards form hand or booard - so if someone has a higher kicker in their hand then the board, they take the pot…
I get what your saying, u can only win what u put in, say if there were 5 ppl in the hand orignally, 2 folded, the betting went around to the dealer A, who raised. Therefore C had already contributed, and can win the entire pot (as it stands). Once player A RAISES then the side pot would be created as C had already put into the pot beforehand, but doesn’t have enough to match the raise. BTW in your example shouldn’t A and B’s side pot be $80 as 50-10=40*2=80? But I get the gist of it.
In the second example, ur saying ONLY if a plyer has a higher card than the board, they can win the pot. If both A and B’s unused (kicker?) cards were lower than the board, they would have split the pot right? (No matter if A’s kicker is higher/lower than B’s, as long as the board has a higher card 'coz both A and B can use that board card to make a hand right?)
exactly - you always look at the 5 best cards a person has, if one player has a lower card in his hand as a kicker than the board, he plays off the board. the simplest way to look at it is always look at the best 5 cards, hand or board. and yes, my math sucked, it should be 80…
i’ve opted to not play online anymore - i hate the online enviorment. frst off, i’m an observer of people, i like watching people and picking up tells. its one of the reasons i play poker, and that skill is mostly lost online. you can pick up bettoing patterns, but there is moe to reading then that. also, online people are crazy, they go all in with ANYTHING and i end up on the wrong side of a suck out, plus in san diego and surrounding areas there is an abundance of native american casinos to play poker at, plus we have at least one non-indian card house, so finding a live game is as difficult as a drive…
opticallyinviz, get with a third party site like neteller and link it with your bank account. also angryliberal, you can get tells online by virtue of how fast an opponent puts out a bet. it’s very subtle at times but i guarantee it’s there.
someone rail me at the $3 stud tournament at stars, i’m near the top of the chip lead, and i was leader for a long time, despite not knowing anything about the game.
oh, i know you can pick up tells online, i’ve done it before. my point is more in my enjoyment of the activity. i’m a wallflower, so i’ve spent most my life observing people, and i love to do it. live poker relies on this ability and sharpens it, something i really wanna do…i just don’t get that same feeling from online, it feels very artificial…
It’s true, online and live games are two entirely different animals. You can give away so much more when you’re playing live, but you can also pick up a bit more. You can’t really bluff as much online as you could live, cause there’s just donks that call with anything. But, for solid moneymaking, you can’t beat the hph you can have when you play online. Especially when you multi-table.
the sunday one is $12 plus you can pay an additional $2 for an extra $500 chip…i’ll be there on sunday, look for the skinny ass white boy in a notre dame hat - its all black and has a clover on it…
edit: starts at 10am, i suggest you get there early…being an alternate SUCKS!
dammit. my buddy is going to Viejas tomorrow morning, but i can’t make it. i have to run errans (sp) till Tuesday back in LA.
good luck angryliberal
oh BTW, how is the structure like? I played at Sycuan the other day and the structure was horrible. $20 buy in no rebuys. starting chip stack is 2500 and the blinds are 100/200. not enough chips to play with and the blinds go up very quickly…
that is the problem with all our local tournies…the casinos only run em to draw in cash players, so the blind structure makes the game more of a crap shoot if you don’t pick up a good hand or two. i’ll be down there at bout 9:30am today…i’ll play in the tourny, then hit up some cash games afterwards, maybe 3/6 limit or the scrubby ass 1/1/1 nl, max 40 buy in game…yes 1/1/1, the dealer blinds too, its fucking weird, but all the stupid ass scrubs play, so its easy money…
lol as scrubby as the players are, they somehow get lucky. Everytime i come in with the best hand and i raise, i get 3-4 callers. they win with 2 pair…K2, Q5, A8.
i moved up to 1/2 and i think that is much better. just wait for a really good hand and bust them. yet, it’s very stressful to risk a lot of money on one hand :annoy:
Can someone explain the rules to Texas Holdem poker. At school they play for like 5 dollar buy ins with chips and its like 7 of them I tried to play on Friday but I didn’t really know what beat what alot of the time and ended up gettin 4th. So can someone tell me what beats what and whats a straight etc. thanks in advance.
for those in the san diego area -FUCK VIEJAS TOURNAMENTS - i got there before it started by like half an hour, and i was still alternate #61, i doubled up within 3-4 hands, and lost about 3-4 hands later. the blind structure goes up so fucking fast that you are basically playing on the luck of getting a good hand or catching a suck out…i will never go to that casino again…its all about harrah’s rincon or ocean’s 11, and cash games only, only tournies i enter now are high end, 300-500 buy-in with good blind structures…
