flip i saw the tournament u were in, you should invest that 10 dollars into sit and gos on pokerstars, or their 25 and 45k guaranteed prize pool tournaments. much better investment for that money imho.
hey guys, I have a couple questions about playing for real money online. I primarilly play at Casinos and do well. I only play online for play money when i’m bored. :karate:
This may sound like a dumb question, but what are bonuses and how do you get them? Is there somewhere I can read about it?
Also, where are the best places to play. I have Free money accounts at FTP, but what about for real money?
Thanks!
Bonuses = money sites pay you to play online. Usually you just have to play X number of hands and then they give you the money. If you play a lot, like I do, you can make pretty good money on the bonuses. I usually make somewhere between $1000 to $1500 a month in just bonuses (that’s not counting money I make from playing). This month I’m trying for $3000 in bonus money.
Best place to learn information about bonuses: www.bonuswhores.com
More specifically, where to get started: http://www.bonuswhores.com/bonus-whoring-101.php
That’ll tell you where to go and when depending on how much money you have, etc. A very good resource. The forums there are a good place to go to look for breaking information, but the front page of BW will give you most of what you need to know first anyways.

oy andys gonna be a bonus grinder. you get to see a lotta hands:D
let me know how your online adventures go- if i take 12 units next quarter i might get back into poker.
hey viscant,
may i ask how much you make a month on poker?
and do you think online poker is easier to make money than in casinos?
oh one more question,
so would it be a good strategy to be an extremely tight player and just concentrate on making lots of bonus money and not care about winning actual hands unless you have like pocket pairs?
Haven’t posted in a bit because work has been semi crazy per usual
Still going ok, small downswing going on but it happens and its not breaking me overall Im still up:tup:
Friend of mine who I met up with won 3k:wow: off slots the other night of a 20 :wow: before I got up from the table, freaking insane other then the catfight in the lobby that was funny at 4 am lol

Birthdays coming up soon like fridayish if anyone wanted to get me a small gift like pokertracker, the bought and paid edition, that would make my day since I don’t even use anything but my small walmart notebook/excel sheet to track my small times stats :xeye: cough :xeye:
[/plug]
Other then that I’m right now being botherome by preflop raises by some unknowns who are new to my playerbase when I have some premium hands… they usually take down too with no real playing back ( when Im folded and taking the info in )…so right now I could be giving to much credit?..unsure and don’t know how I should approch them right now headups but I’m open to some advice.

You can get pokertracker for free
EDIT: I’ve been waiting for a day like this for a couple months now. One of the best (and luckiest) 2 hours of poker ever.

Thanks Viscant for the info.
Haha. If you get back into poker, we gotta play some time. I got 17th at Pokerpalooza and Jay got 3rd. It had twice as many people as last year’s. But no free condoms and Red Bull.
So far for the year I’ve made $12370 in bonuses and $12502 at the tables (as of Nov 1). Add in a few extra thousand I’ve made in affiliate whoring, a little bit extra casino whoring and I’m hoping to hit about 40-45k for the year. Some months are good and some are bad. Last couple months I’ve made about 1500-1800, basically just barely breaking even at the tables and relying on my bonus money. In August I made about $6000. That’s poker, can’t really count on it for steady money in the short term but a consistent earn rate is there long term.
I keep more detailed results month to month on my blog. http://viscant.blogspot.com . Last day of every month I do the books for the month’s play. It’s there if you care for any more details.
Poker is much easier online than playing in a casino. For one you don’t have to wear pants. I like that a lot. I’m not wearing pants right now and I’m “at work” right now with football in the background.
But the main advantages of online poker are:
–More tables. Table selection is key. Why would I want to sit at a table with people who know what they’re doing? Between the major networks there are literally hundreds of tables at the limits I’m looking at. I have money on Party, HoldemPoker, Stars, Absolute and Paradise right now. If a table I’m sitting at starts to get rocky, I just close it and open a new one.
–You can multi-table. A solid earn rate for a good player would be about one big bet per hour per table. You can’t really multi-table at casinos (I mean you can, but people get pissed at you), so playing online you can increase your earn rate and pack more work into your time. Also this is a way of increasing your earn rate while keeping the risk fairly low. For example, say you wanted an earn rate of $40 per hour playing live. You’d probably be looking at playing a 20/40 game. This is hard and you need a pretty sizable bankroll to be able to tackle a game like that. My earn rate playing 2/4 is about $40 per hour. 4 tables meaning my expected earn rate for the poker play is $16/hr. The site is paying me bonus money that translates out to roughly $6/hr. Multiply that times 4 tables and add that to the money made through playing and I get that same $40/hr earn rate with 1/10th the risk and not having to play against quality opposition most of the time.
–Bonuses. See above. Most of the comps you get at casinos for frequent play aren’t really as worth it. Online bonus systems are usually cash. Way better than a buffet or free rooms no matter how good the prime rib is.
As for your last question
If you’re playing primarily for bonuses, that’s fine, but that doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t be playing to win. Ideally you want to play the best you possibly can. Poker has risks and IS gambling, no matter what people will try to tell you. It’s a gamble a skilled player has an advantage in (most of the time) but it’s still gambling, so don’t try and take the gambling out of it. While bonus chasing, you should still play a normal tight-aggressive game, with a VP$IP (voluntarily putting money into the pot) of somewhere between 15 and 21 over the long haul. Bonuses are just a bonus on top of your play. They help to soften the blow if variance decides to kick you in the nuts also, which makes them nice to have. But you’re still playing poker first, and it helps to remember that.

can’t u just share the pokertracker or does it have to be registered online?
thank you VERY much viscant, that was great.
when is the next “SRK online poker get-together”?
i’d like to see how well i measure up against you “online players”
oh one more question for Viscant,
how often do you play online poker? and how long are your sessions usually?
For most of the year I’ve been playing 2 hours a day, sometimes 3 or 4. This month I’m trying to change my methods and play 5+ hours a day every day. It hasn’t worked out perfectly since real life tends to get in the way too much. But it’s a good goal to shoot for. It sounds easy…I mean I used to work 8 hours a day doing telemarketing and data entry which is basically same stuff but I dunno…my brain just starts getting tired after a few hours of poker. I try and break it down by doing 2-3 in the morning and the rest at night but it’s just hard to do that much of. I know some people who play 8 hours a day 8 tables at a time, but as far as I’m concerned they’re just freaks of nature.
itslog:
Not sure what you’re asking. That’s a pretty standard rakeback deal and rakerebates are pretty reputable. It’s also a pretty good rate. One thing I’ll point out is that a rakeback deal is almost always less profitable than a bonus. The only site that doesn’t subtract your bonus money from the amount you get in rakeback is Absolute. All the others if you’re playing for a bonus, it doesn’t count towards your rakeback. If you plan on playing like me (collect a bonus and move on) a rakeback deal is basically worthless…except at Absolute.
The main pro of rakeback is that if you really like a site you can stay on it. Unfortunately the main site you would want to stay on (Party) has a very strange stance on rakeback. They previously yanked it altogether and banned affiliates from offering it (by removing MGR–monthly gross revenue–tracker, thereby not letting the affiliate know what to pay out), but since the skin split their stance on it has changed up a bit. They aren’t actively discouraging it but they probably will in the future so…it’s right now just not a great deal.
But then again there are some people who really just like one site and want to stick with it. Again, when you sign up for Absolute you should always get rakeback on top of that since it’s not subtracted from MGR. For all other sites, only sign up for rakeback if you plan on staying there for the majority of your play even without a bonus. If you plan on bonus whoring, it’s basically useless.
Also one other thing to point out about that ad is I don’t like that they don’t offer cash for rakeback. You can find other deals that offer cash, usually they get around the sites frowning on it by putting cash into other accounts on other sites. If that matters to you, you might want to find another affiliate.

I know I can dl the trial software but its only for 1000 hands and I do want my own version for full fuctionally , I don’t think thats so wrong seeing as its probably a must have for playing online from just about everyone out there:rolleyes:

just download a crack
what i did for PT omaha and hold 'em
good tips viscant. did anyone see the 60 minutes piece on online gambling? if you didn’t i’ll just point out some things they said. um for one most if not all of these poker sites are based overseas, but i think that’s common knowledge here. also they said by the end of the year the number of online poker games will surpass the number of live games in all of the casinos in the world. 13 mil americans gamble online. mostly they focused on ppl trying to ban or regulate the industry. according to some if they regulate it and tax it and such the industry can only grow. also 80%+ of all online pokeroom revenue comes from america. by the way online gambling in america is illegal period but i think we all know that here also.
hey viscant
do you make most of your money at the limit or NL tables?
why don’t you just play online poker full time?
Depends on what you consider full time. I’m not working any other jobs although I am going to school. If you mean considering poker long-term career wise, that’s a no. The money is good now, but poker is a fad…in a year or so (probably 10 months by my estimate) it’s going to start tailing off and EVERYONE will take a pay cut. That’s just how fads work.
Anyways, I play mostly limit. I’ve played NL cash in the past but it’s not very stable. Also limit is less of a risk. You need a significantly smaller bankroll to chase bonuses that way.
