The Official Poker Thread

Those are all hands that take place in the tournament. Just they either aren’t of huge consequence or ESPN for some reason decided not to show them in the actual tournament. It’s a neat marketing ploy and makes for a good commercial.

Also, for those who don’t know. The Bad Beat Jackpot at Party Poker is over $592,000 right now. Almost six hundred grand. I can only think of one time it’s been that high ever. If you have a Party account, get on RIGHT NOW. If not, sign up under me! http://www.partypoker.com/index.htm?wm=2576581 . Free $100 bonus for signing up under me also.
But yeah, I’ve spent the morning 4 tabling the bad beat jackpot tables. By my count if you win the jackpot (lose the hand), you’re up to make about $210,000. Winning hand will make about $105,000. Just for being at the table, you’ll make a minimum of $13,000. So yeah, now’s the time to be on Party, go go go!

not to bluff? He didn’t have shit but high card.

what are the possibilities of winning in a jackpot table and what are the requirements to join one? do i need to be in a specific table?

As long as you have money you can play at the tables. They have tables dedicated to the “bad beat” and “jackpot” prizes and the blinds are at least 2/4 on the tables if I remember correctly.

The tables labelled “bad beat jackpot” are the ones eligible for the promotion.

As you can imagine with such a high amount, it’s obviously gonna be pretty hard to hit. The rules are, both hole cards must be used and the losing hand has to be quad 8s or better. So really there are 3 ways to win.
Straight flush over straight flush. And since both hands have to use both hole cards this is super rare. Has to be like AsKs vs. 8s9s and the board has QsJsTs. Very very rare.
Straight flush over quads. Not exactly common but the most common.
Or quads over quads. Two ways of hitting that. Pocket pair vs. pocket pair that both nail the board. Or a situation where the board reads KKK99 and someone has AK and someone else has 99.

It’s not exactly common but since I’m mass tabling it, it’s not like the probability is SUPER low. I’ve had a couple close calls today. Had QQ, flop came down QQA, turn A and the other guy capped the turn and river. I REALLY thought he had it, but he just had AK and missed the river. And another hand I had 99, someone else had TT and the flop came down 9T9. So we had about a 5% chance to hit but he missed (as expected, I dragged a huge pot off that though).

But yeah, the REAL allure of jackpot time is all the horrible play that takes place while the fish are out. I’m up pretty big today, thanks to jackpot chasers. So come on out, join the fun! USE MY LINK if you haven’t signed up at PP yet.

lol well i scouted around the tables…too bad the limits are 2/4 and i don’t have a bankroll for that. otherwise i would’ve joined d/=D . GOOD LUCK

Everyone, post up what poker programs you are currently using and for what reasons (bonus, jackpots, etc.).

I’m on at
Inter Poker - 100% bonus up to 90 dollars, as soon as I hit it I’m going to cash out, and start it all over again.
Party Poker - Was my first one, didn’t know too much about bonus’ and things like that, now I rarely use it.

I’m looking for a place that has nice tournament turnouts (less than Party, but enough to make the tournaments worth playing). I’m currently looking at either Poker Stars or Ultimate Bet, but neither of those have too great of any bonus.

Pokerstars is pretty solid imo:tup:

youre such a fuckin cheater Jay… ive only hit quads TWICE in my life… let alone twice in one day… <3

Rickstah:
I keep a result sheet of all the sites I play on and what I extracted from them bonus-wise and profit wise on my blog. The past couple months are here, if you’re interested.
Sept: http://viscant.blogspot.com/2005/09/results-for-month-of-september.html
August: http://viscant.blogspot.com/2005/08/results-for-month-of-august.html
You can find the rest if you’re curious.

The recommendations I have for you though depend on how well you like your current sites. William Hill (www.williamhillpoker.com ) and Poker Plex (www.pokerplex.com ) are on the same network as Interpoker and have better bonuses. Will Hill gives 5 GBP (translates to roughly $9) per hour/per table up to 25 GBP. Also you don’t have to wait for a PIN number to cash out. Poker Plex gives $50 bonus for 300 dealt hands, which is a far better deal than Interpoker. If you like the network and the players, these are good bonuses too.

If you’re into playing tournaments and working off a bonus, Bodog (www.bodog.com ) is a decent place. They don’t have much traffic for normal ring games, but they’re pretty active for tournaments, also you can work off the bonus through tournament play. They do a lot of advertising on TV around here also (the ads are retarded but I see them a lot and remember them so I guess that means they’re working) so I’m thinking they’re going to be a growing room in the future. The interface is nice also, very clean and utilitarian.

If you’re just into a huge bonus, Absolute is the place to go. It’s growing and the traffic isn’t that great but they ALWAYS have bonuses. Every weekend or so it seems like they have a reload. If you’re interested, email me and I’ll send you an invite to get an extra $100 bonus. Decent room, I usually have good success with them and they’re a good place to store up bonus money. I have about $2000 in bonus money waiting to be cleared on them.

But yeah, my personal advice to anyone around though is avoid all old Party skins. For those who don’t know Party Poker has started doing some weird stuff and they jettisoned their old skins. Empire, Eurobet, Intertops, Multipoker, etc are no longer a part of the Party network. They’re their own network now and they aren’t very stable right now. When the split happened, Eurobet started cancelling cashouts (which usually means they didn’t have the money). Just kind of a heads up, the ex-party skins aren’t really stable right now. Maybe go back to them in a couple months once the dust settles, but in online poker better safe than sorry.

Update: Party jackpot at $625,000. Sign up people!

methinks u overplayed your hand on the turn especially in a 5 handed pot which u raised too small after so many limpers preflop…

Yeah, perhaps. But I pretty much thought I had the nuts flush draw, I think the one who overplayed was the one with 3 6. Who calls a raise with that, never mind bets over the top of someone on the flop.
