The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

cindaquil and totadile are both great pokemon, feraligatr is only not used at all because it’s outclassed not because it’s bad, and typhlosion is an awesome lead/scarfer(again outclassed but not bad).

Yeah but most of that nonsense is irrelevant for the quest playthrough.

Good moves Cyndaquil learns by level-up:

  1. Flamethrower
  2. ???

Strength and Rock Climb it is then!

Yeah, Cyndaquil got the short end of the stick. It has lava plume to hold it over until it gets flame thrower and that’s it. Typhlosion has a decent movepool. The problem? Most of it happens to be physical.

Typhlosion losing special thunderpunch really hurt.

Ty doesn’t get Lava Plume until Lv43, so until then you’re stuck with ember’s horrible base running off its special for quite a while. It learns Flamethrower shortly after it learns LP, which is another bad thing. He still gets Eruption which is pretty cool, but you’ll have to LV grind to 74 which is hell long.

except cyndaquils attack and special attack are almost the same, the disparity gets bigger as it evolves but it’s attack stat is still decent, and decent is MORE Than enough to be used for in game battles. Mine did fine with flame wheel, swift, ember, quick attack, also it totally gets lave plume at 35 according to serebii. It also learns focus blast, which if I remember correctly you can just BUY in heart gold soul silver(thouhg my memory is pretty crummy so I could be wrong).

I will never tire of fake/hack reviews. Green Mudkip ftw

Mr. Burglar’s Unlicensed / Bootleg Video Game Blog - 2003 Pocket Monster Carbuncle (GBC)

Totally naming my next Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff as Fat D.

Quilava gets lava plume at level 35 right before he evolves. Then he gets Flamethrower at level 42. You happen to be talking about his level up set from generation V (the black and white games). Because in HGSS you get Eruption at level 57. Bulbapedia (I’m assuming that is the source of your information) now has black and white learn sets up and you have to click the IV to get DPP/HGSS sets.

opps yeah you guys were right I was looking at G5, but I know you have to click for G4 just had forgotten

isn’t ty the only fire starter that can learn eruption?

^I believe so.

I’ve been using the Pokewalker that came with HGSS. This thing is absolutely perfect for the kind of lifestyle that I have, since I exercise a few days a week. I took it with me today it was my 2nd run whilst using it. Not only does it stay on well, I rack up a lot of steps when running. I ran about 9 and 1/2 miles this morning and I racked up 13, 338 steps in a single stroll. I had about 664 watts in a single stroll. I practically unlock a new course each time I go running.

I ran a 5k this sunday where I racked up about 6,000 steps. Today is when I realized this device is absolutely amazing. When I do my weekly runs or participate in a race my pokemon gain a level and pick up items. This is very good for pokemon who level up slowly (like Heracross and Dratini).

God I wish one of these came with platinum.

Only downside is if they are supposed to learn a move via level up they won’t learn it in the Pokewalker.

edit:Since my copy of SoulSilver mysteriously vanished (I bought a new copy) I’m really thinking of doing a playthrough as Chikorita since I’ve never used her ever. Only grass starters I’ve used have been Bulbasaur (in FireRed) and Turtwis (in Diamond).

I almost always pick the Water Starter.

You should try Treecko, I’d say it’s pretty good. I always picked Mudkip in RSE until recently.

@Spinning
Ah. I was more aiming for the Gardevoir egg group joke then.

I should get a physical HGSS and a pokewalker, myself. DPPt was alright.

ugh, I’m replaying G2 again (yes the actual one for the GBC) and lets talk about Gyarados shall we?

I never actually go with totodile for the mere sake that is a gyarados waiting for me at lake of rage. A fucking RED gyarados, because you know, those shinys back then had boosted stats or some kind. Then G3 hit and they took the boost away, and when you caught a shiny that’s all it was. A shiny. Lol. Anyway, back to gyarados. Yeah, I caught the damn thing and I felt proud as hell finally having a legit water pokemon on my team. A good one at that. The HM Slave during these times was Kraby, so I had 5 slots to build a fucking badass team.

But man, Gyarados really suuuuuuucks this generation. I mean it doesn’t suck to where you can’t use it, but goddamnit. It learns no good moves to take advantage of that atk stat. Here I’m thinking “hmmm, double edge is my only hope” and there’s no fucking TM of this thing? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Look at that special! The split screwed this guy over big time. Why do I have to rely on moves like Headbutt? Or Thrash? I tried giving my gyarados HP and preyed it was bug or something, but it’s fucking grass. Jesus.

Lets take a look at smogons prefered set

Double-Edge
Zap Cannon
Hydro Pump
HP Ground/Bug

It won’t kill anything off the back but man I’d love to have that. This pokemon sucks this gen.

I’m surprised none of you guys are discussing all the ridiculous and cool new stuff in Gen 5.

Mischevious Heart whhhaaaat~!

mischevious heart is nasty, leech seed abuse with the grass pokemon is insane, ar at least thats what peolpe is saying,

Taunt/Leech Seed/Substitute/Toxic or something like that lol

The ice on the cake is that Voltos gets it who learns Nasty Plot. AND 125 SPECIAL ATTACK.

I’m just about to get my 8th badge, really enjoying the game so far. I’ve clocked up 23 hours and haven’t beaten the story, it’s really damn fun. But yeah, there’s so many potential gamebreaking stuff at the moment like Ulgamoth and Butterfly Dance…

I think I’m going to do Pokemon SoulSilver Hard Mode just for shits and giggles.

Rules are (in case no one knows)

  1. If a pokemon faints, it is to be released and another one of it’s kind cannot be caught again. (So if I ever owned Geodude and it’s subsequent evolutions, I cannot own another Geodude.)

  2. I must catch the first pokemon I run into on each route. No exceptions.

  3. No trading unless it is a requirement for evolution. Trading for evolutions must occur within 5 levels. I.E. I can only evolve Haunter at level 30 since it evolves at level 25

  4. Party Pokemon must have nicknames. (added that one myself for the lulz.)

nuzlocke :o

Yup!

Is that the ability where you have +1 priority on status moves? That’s going to put a hurt on teams. If Ampharos has that ability I would love it forever.

Yeah, unless you’re using EXTREMESPEED or a move of similar caliber you will always go second to a Pokemon with the Mischevious Heart trait (using a non-attacking move of course).

This will be probably the biggest metagame changer next to the Shell Breakers and Butterfly Dancers.
