The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

I assume he’s playing Platinum, in which you face Fantina earlier. That Mismagius is kind of a bitch in that game.

And Stealth Rock is almost entirely useless in singleplayer except against the few trainers who actually do switch out to counters, Red and Blue in HGSS being the only ones I can think of.

I see. Blissey would still be good for later, since it really walls specials. At least, that’s how I didn’t have difficulty with the Ghost Gym in Diamond/Pearl.

I just wanted to get some damage in singleplayer, which is why my lead sets up hazards. Usually toxic spikes. Type advantage seems to be the most important, since you can beat Red even when you’re many levels behind.

Still don’t feel like playing B/W even if I have it. Maybe I’ll finish Soul Silver first and finish current Nuzlocke runs before trying. I might even wait for the English release at this rate. D:

The comics are amazing.

If you get Payback before Fantina in Platinum (I think you do), then Machoke + Payback does very good vs her.

 @ Episode 4. Thanks for mapping out the rest of my night.

I’m on my way to Snowpoint city. The route going towards it really blows. The trainers are really good for EXP but that’s nullified by the deep snow. Getting 100 steps, using the vs. seeker only for them to not want to battle sucks.

I will also never be raising another Dragon type ever. They take way too long to level up. I don’t have the patience for it. That said, Garchomp is pretty bad ass. I semi-cheated, I generally don’t like to use rare candies but for Chomp I made an exception. When Gabite reached level 45 I said fuck it and gave him 3 rare candies.

I enjoy this game a lot however it’s hindered by needing HM’s at every turn which destroys my team. I either get an HM slave or I sacrifice move sets. Other than the HM thing this is actually the best Pokemon game I have played. I used to have a huge bias towards gen 2; but, after doing all the cool things in Platinum I really like it. My favorite is the physical/special split.

All of the best pokemon aren’t readily available but a good portion of my favorites are. I even tried some new ones and liked them. I really like Infernape, Roserade, Staraptor, and Garchomp (despite the long time to level up). I can’t believe I put off playing platinum for so long. Thank you black and white for giving me a sense or urgency.

Yeah, Dragons/pseudo-legendaries are tough to raise. Although, the only one I really had problems raising was Trapinch. I’ve raised Dratini/Larvitar/Swablu/Beldum and enjoyed it. I suppose Swablu/Altaria is the easiest… the only one I haven’t raised yet is Bagon (will do it the next time I play Emerald).

Rare Candies are fine, I always do that for the last 2-3 levels before evo.

What was it about trapinch that gave you issues?

Also why didn’t you bother with Gible? I raised a Dratini and Larvitar in crystal as a kid. I also noticed when I was a child I had a lot more patience. Nowadays it seems I can’t wait for anything.

I just got White in the mail, killed my batteries, and can’t find my charger D:

Ah yeah, forgot about that  . I think I’ll be raising a Gible in my Diamond game.

There’s something about the Trapinch (and to a lesser extent Vibrava) moveset and stats, I just can’t seem to use it properly for some reason. I would definitely want to, eventually.

I had a fairly easy time leveling up Ononokusu’s pre-evolved forms in White. Of course, the Experience Share helped a lot in the beginning…

Trapinch is a pain to raise, though. Its speed is just so damn low, and so are those defenses. I believe I used an Experience Share on that one too back when I used it in-game. I think that was back when I played through Platinum.

Bibarel solves your HM troubles. Best slave out there, it can learn up to any HM move. Another thing that’s good is that they can be caught in the wild, so no need to LV up a stupid bidoof.

A mixed-ape that’s trained well should destroy just about anything ingame.

Bibarel really is designed to be the best HM slave ever. Even if you actually treat it as a legitimate team member, he can still pull his weight due to the Normal/Water typing giving him STAB on most of the noteworthy HMs.

I want to import Pokemon Black, the only thing I wish to know is can the Pokemon and Characters name be written in english letters. Thanks

You can give them English nicknames, but I think you’re limited to 5 letters in the JP versions.

I still think BW is holding over a lot of potential upgrades for Pokemon.

I still want my:

Multiscale Milotic

Simple Quagsire

Tinted Lens Flygon

Butterfly Dance Yanmega (with Tinted Lens drool :badboy:)

Elite Four’s Lucian keeps tearing my team apart. I can’t set up a sweep with Gengar. I’m thinking of putting someone other than him first for Mr. Mime. MM has spectacular Sp.def so Gengar isn’t killing him. Then psychic OHKO’s him.

But if I lead with anything else he will use reflect and that makes it impossible to take advantage of the physical frailness. My team is under leveled a bit too. But I hate grinding. I might have to though if I wish to succeed. His team also outspeeds mine, that makes Espeon and Alakazam hard to deal with.

EDIT: Of course, I’ve beat them now. Cynthia wasn’t hard at all IMO. Lucian was the hardest due to speed and hard hitting sp.attk. Cynthia was tame compared to that violet flamer.

lol! The new Skitty x Wailord has been discovered. Apparently, Gardevoir can breed with the new, ugly, non-Water type fish (Maggyo and the lamprey-like line) from B/W.

After looking at the Isshu dex, Christ, must have those new dragon ones. And Genosect.

I was expecting something huge.

Maggyo doesn’t look big at all

Hate to double post, but I’ve been playing Heart Gold lately. I don’t plan on finishing any sidequests in Platinum until I beat the elite 4 in HG. I really like HG/SS, although I love remakes because familiarity makes me calm. Just seeing my childhood get a graphical update is amazing itself.

The only problem is that I am spoiled by Platinum. It had decent pokemon, TM’s, and items right off the bat. Going from that to HG is weird because a lot of the pokemon in Johto suck and/or have limited movepools. I chose Cyndaquil but right now I wish I chose Totodile, so I could have experienced the physical/special split a little better. I made it work though, there is always the trusty gastly line and I have a Heracross (who gains EXP just as slow as garchomp sigh).

What I’m really impressed with is the Gym’s getting a complete makeover. In FR/LG they were pretty much the same. Gamefreak went all out for HG/SS on the other hand. I have only obtained 5 badges so far, but my favorites so far are Ecruteak and Cianwood. Chuck just looks so badass sitting under his waterfall not paying any attention to you.

Oh and to continue the black and white discussion, the Elite 4 arena’s look absolutely amazing.

Most of the early Johto Pokemon do suck, especially the starters. Totodile is probably the best, but I never pick him because the red Gyarados is just waiting for me anyway.
