The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

I’m so sick of brelooms, 5-0’d again. I have like no counter for this thing in my teams except one which boast pretty good results there. 14-3 so far, setting up S/R against this squad is a waste of time

I wanna test this team on shoddy soon, with a bit more tweaking since I can choose any move/nature there

15-3 now

When it comes to Breloom, Taunt is your friend… No leech seeds, substitutes, swords dances, and of course NO FUCKING SPORE.

I love my Taunting Crobat… Honchkrow is another good counter (Insomnia, bitch!)

I actually like Breloom, with its unique typing, but much like another fav poke of mine, Scizor, the whoring noob masses have really killed it for me as far as using one myself.

BTW, anyone got any good Gengar sets outside of generic old Shadow Ball/Focus Blast/Hidden Power/Destiny Bond or Sub? Its my favorite poke of all time, but I haven’t actually used one in months due to not being able to come up with any decent alternative sets for it…

That’s the problem, Breloom normally comes in on pokemon that cannot taunt it fast enough (or just slow in general) and become setup fodder. Bulky flyers really do well against it, but I’ve some running Thunder-punch to down a Gyarados. When I try to revenge kill it with say bullet punch or extreme-speed it already has the damn subs out still, and I soak another STAB FP. If it were faster that thing would be pretty unstoppable in some instances.

Hmm a good gengar moveset…well as versatile as Gengar is you aren’t gonna find much outside what you just listed. The metagame has changed so much that none of the older gimmicks work (focus punch gar, explodingar which got re-suspect, etc.) I do have one interesting Gengar in my box that was quite the gimmicky one, I may have used it early D/P when Garchomp/Mence was running around

@Life Orb
Sludge Bomb
Wil o Wisp
Energy Ball
HP Ice

Sludge Bomb, his most powerful atk will dent anything that doesn’t resist, but the coverage is poorly noted. WoW to cripple physical switch ins like weavile and tar, who look to pursuit gengar to hell (you could focus blast, but it misses more often than WoW and Gengar can’t afford missing). Energy ball is solely for swampert, may be odd using one attack slot for one pokemon but I’ve caught unsuspecting swamperts with this

The last was HP Ice because I needed something to stop Garchomp/Mence/etc. but seeing how they are uber now you can probably go HP fire and hit steel that would be immune to your Sludge Bomb.

I really hope the mechanic behind HP is changed for gen 5. It’s fine for Shoddy and the like, where you can literally pick and choose everything without effort, but in a real game w/o major hax? It’s fuggin’ retarded.

New OU and UU list are out

New OU List (September 2010) - Smogon Community - OU
New UU List (September 2010) - Smogon Community - UU

Notes: As zenken touched upon, Shaymin did get promoted to OU. With its ability to subseed, pure grass typing, seed flare, and natural cure one should of figured. Heracross didn’t make the cut and fell to UU, being forced into choice predictions and way too many priority attackers to chip it off. Don’t expect him to be there for long though, 2 120 base STABs are nothing to shrug at. With fairly good speed (for UU anyway) he’s gonna reck havoc, I do see him at least being sent to BL after further testing of the UU metagame.

While nothing much happened in the OU area, UU got a major wakeup. Slowking, Regirock, and Poliwrath banished to the wasteland that is NU. I was using a slowking in one of my UU teams along with steelix, I certainly liked that combination but it was annoying dealing with Slowking’s weakness to grass/tbolt/sucker punch. Jumps from NU to UU included Exeggutor, Kangaskhan, Primeape, Qwilfish, and Ursarang.

I forgot how fast shoddy battle is :0

Anyway, 4-1 so far with this team on shoddy! MORE TESTING

NO SCIZOR

i can’t believe weavile is still OU. its only purpose in my opinion was revenge killing mence locked into outrage.

but it is a good pursuiter, not as tyranitar but if you dont want sand on your team is a good option for dispatching rotom forms and other pesky ghosts… since is faster than any ghost not holding a scarf

Weavile is perhaps the best non-scarfed revenge killer there is, there are still dragons like Dragonite and Flygon that don’t want anything to do with Weavile. The sets have been tweaked for pure revenge killing, Weavile is as dangerous as ever if played correctly. Early D/P was Weavile’s glory days, but now with the common S/R and things like bullet punching scizor makes it hard for weavile to remain alive.

what purpose does it serve on a team besides revenge killing? i can acknowledge that it is a very good revenge killer. but i just don’t like how frail it is and how it’s so weak to common OU types and those said types also happen to have priority attacks. not only that but stealth rock is too common…so even a neutral STAB’d attack will probably take it out. it should’ve been reduced to UU or at least BL just because of stealth rock imo.

scizor is even a better pursuiter than weavile imo because of its ability switch into things that weavile can’t.

why are you guys complaining weavile being OU when evire is still sitting up there because crappy players use it

Remember when it was really cool to run E-Vire with Thunderbolt over Thunderpunch to hit Skarmory as Blissey switches out? Innovation.

Not much purposes outside revenge killing, if any. But considering how fast it truly is and its solid attack base, it should rape a good portion of the UU meta. In UU, S/R isn’t as common. Weavile gains a lot of strengths there, perhaps too much for it’s own good really. It can effectively sweep in UU, unlike in OU. Most BL Pokemon cannot handle Weavile, Staraptor is exterminated by choice banded Ice punch. So is Yanmega, who he can pick off with Ice Shard if worried about Speed Boost. Abamosnow fears low kick, and Cresselia fears Night Slash.

Vire remains OU for his versatility. He still has problems with bulky pokemon, but can flamethrower those predicted Scizor switches. HP Grass Swamperts, or Ice Punch Dragons. Thunderbolt dents anything that doesn’t resist, and cross chop for blissey/steel. Motor Drive is noted, but not as popular early D/P with Gyarados baits.

Man thx a lot allan now I can’t get off shoddy! I knew there was reason I stop playing, I’m testing so much shit getting an average of 30 battles per day.

I like running Screech on E-vire. It’s pretty lolz and has gotten me a lot of ridiculous kills on switch-ins…
When you can kill a Skarmory switch-in while running a fully physical set, well… LOL.

But I do weird stuff in general, like using Charge with my Rotom. People play me and are like, ‘Who the fuck uses Charge?’ and proceed to get their ass handed to them by a boosted Thunderbolt.

I know, I’m weird.
I’m super-hyped for Black and White though! I just pray Gamefreak gives me a way to use Bug and Fire-types that aren’t named Scizor and Heatran again…

Damn you, Stealth Rock!!

Famitsu gave Black and White 40/40

Famitsu gives Black and White perfect score - Bulbanews

In before, “How much does a 40/40 cost nowadays,” etc.

For comparison’s sake, DPPt/HGSS got around 36-37/40.

Also, KH2 and FF12 and dat COD got near-perfect scores as well: Famitsu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oh well. Only a week left! I was planning on getting a DS bundle by Xmas for the English version in early 2011. But I wouldn’t be against getting it early to play the JPN version.

wonder if those fansubbers out there will really bust ass in making the patch before US release or not this time. :wgrin:

of course they will. it’s a new generation game, not a remake or anything. how come nobody is talking about how heracross went to UU? :wow: that thing is so going to rape the UU tiers. dual STAB’d 120 base attacks = ouch. probably going to see a lot of scarf’d heracross in UU now.

only problem i see scarf’d heracross running into is yanmega. it rapes everything else for free lol
