The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

I’m actually not sure why no one uses dusknoir anymore, it might be because it doesn’t threaten heatran and gives it a boost with willowwisp? I might have to ask some of my friends who stay really on top of the metagame why that is.

I know you can build around stealth rocks, but I think the strategic gain stealth rocks adds in to the game is not worth the massive hit to creativity. If I want to run say articuno, I basically MUST run a rapid spinner and an anti spin blocker, which severely limits two slots. Also I almost must have rocks myself which limits it even more.

AIM me, if you can, we can exchange friend codes and talk about that shit.

ok what is your aim address? sorry for the hold up i had to run to the store for my mom

mine is riprapseph, IM me when u are down

hey guys what are the best natures in respect to each stat such as : speed, special attack, attack, defense, special defense

i’m looking at the table at the bottom of http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nature

but i can’t make much sense of it.

also, anybody want to battle?

all the natures offer the same bonus to different stats. The bst bonus depends on the pokemon, for example something that wants to be fast, and uses physical attacks will want timid. That one raises speed and lowers attack. a fast physical attack will want jolly which is +speed - special attack.

interesting… where can i get more information on this?

dude i’ve hatched 10 larvitars. so far i have:

quiet, hardy, bashful, timid, jolly, docile, mild

are any of these good? which would be the best for Larvitar?

also, what gender is the best for what kinds of stats? i remember reading somewhere male for attack, female for defense

  • means that nature adds 10% to that stat
  • means that nature subtracts 10% from that stat

There are no natures that affect HP. All natures raise one and lower one, except for the two natures that don’t raise or lower at all.

Most Pokemon will have one stat that they are completely ok with having low (Special sweepers usually don’t need attack, Physical sweepers don’t need sp.atk, etc.), you will want a nature that lowers that stat and raises a more important stat, usually speed or one of the attack stats.

jolly wouldnt be bad
unless you want to keep aiming for adamant

i got a naughty. isn’t that good for attack?

why is adamant the best?

adamant is best if you are not going to use any special attack. The problem with naughty is that it lowers one of your defenses which makes you easier to kill, while adamant will lower your special ttack which you wont be using.

there is no ‘best’ nature. people breed for natures to boost the stat of a pokemon they’ll use for a specific role on their team. for example, machamp has a base 130 atk so you would give it max EV (252) and get an adamant nature because it raises attack

you want to max out the stats as much as you can so it performs at its maximum potential in competitive play. you wouldn’t make your machamp modest because it has a terrible sp.atk and wouldn’t be raising the stat that it excels at

unfortunately you can’t change the IV’s you just have to keep breeding and breeding until you get acceptable ones. you have the do the same thing for hidden power as well. shit takes way too much time so i just said fuck it and bought an AR.

man i didn’t know this breeding crap was such a taxing process. 14 larvitars… no adamant yet. i got a jolly for speed i guess

i want to have a very powerful tyranitar in the future. what would be the best nature and/or gender?

also what’s the fastest way to level up these lvl 1 bastards?

Gender means nothing

generally the best nature is 1 that will increase a stat you want pumped and decrease 1 you wont be using. So the reason adamant will be the best for larvi is cuz Ttar is a physical attacker, and adamant will give more to his attack stat, while taking away from his unused special attack stat. If you wanted a fast one, timid would be best cuz it would minus from the stat you dont need. This is how it goes.

For breeding natures, you can have the mother(or if your using ditto) pass on the her nature by making her hold an ever stone. While this may not help you in your search for adamant larvitar, something to consider for the future. And also, if you think nature breeding is bad, wait till you try IV breeding. Shit is so tedious its no wonder why people hack.

edit: check this for which stat each nature highers, and which each one lowers: http://www.serebii.net/games/natures.shtml

There are ways to make getting the right nature easier…

If the female Pokemon (or Ditto) is holding an Everstone, all of that Pokemon’s children will have a 50% chance of inheriting the mother or Ditto’s nature. Get yourself Dittos of every good nature and you’ll save a lot of time breeding.

Get a ton of Ralts/Natu/Abra. These three are pretty easy to catch and can all have Synchronize as an ability. As long as the first Pokemon in your team has Synchronize, all wild Pokemon have a 50% chance of having the same nature as the Synchronizer. This also makes it easier to get legendaries with the right nature, since you can just save right before you fight them and this increases your chances of it being the right nature to 1/2 instead of 1/30something. It also helps for catching wild Dittos with all the good natures for the Everstone method.

dont want to level them up before you EV train!
EV training is important because they are another “simple” way of raising stats
besically you have 510 secret stat points to use up
but only 252 max per stat, so you have have 252 for attack, 252 for speed and 4 for HP
4 EV points give you 1 actual stat point
and different pokemon give you different amount of EV amounts
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Effort_values
here is a better description im sure
but just be sure you EV train before you go level them up, although EV training will level you up some as well
i always EV train in pokemon diamond, just because the areas are really well known

thanks for the information guys you rock i would be a total newb without ya’ll

yeah, for those level 1 pokemon you don’t let them battle at all until you reach an area known for raising the EV’s of that specific stat. you don’t want to get EV’s in a stat you don’t want then you’d have to get the EV erasing berries, which is a whole different ballgame!

i just deleted some useless EV points from my Dialga which i caught before i knew about natures/ev training/etc
he is a gentle natured, oh well, at least i can mash out 252spa/spe
time to mash on golducks for half an hour…

God I hate EV training, POKERUS + Macho Brace is wonders though.
