You can just walk back and forth between two routes in the middle of Johto until they’re on the same route as you, walk into the grass, attack/inflict status, and rinse and repeat until you catch them, or you can also use an ability like Shadow Tag/Arena Trap or an attack like Mean Look/Block to stop them from retreating and treat it like any other legendary Pokemon.
It’s only considered rare if you catch one that’s just perfect everything (nature/IVs/etc.)
Other than that people just try to manipulate the game like some examples above to get at least one on their team. It’s not like catching Mewtwo or anything if that’s what you’re asking.
Is Grass Knot a good move? or what is the ratio of heavy Pokemon to light?
just to clarify for people who never really fought garchomp in the OU metagame.
the biggest problem in addition to everything you said, is that the word ‘counter’ applies differently to garchomp than everything else. Mainly because nothing in the game switched in safely and guaranteed a kill/switch out, as soon as rocks or sandstorm is out your only chance to guarantee scare chomp off is gone. Donphan? not even choice band adamant donphan ice shard kills chomp, and sword dance outrage guarantees a kill and EARTHQUAKE does 94% minimum. starmie, gengar(hidden power ice only), mamoswine, weavile, better hope he didn’t sub or attack, or if he has a yache berry it doesn’t matter what you do, all those are dead. But let’s say you guess right and have the perfect counter for that particular garchomp, oops sand veil made you miss once, now your whole team is likely dead.
Using the normal definition of counter for garchomp, there is none in OU, UU, or NU, nothing can threaten enough damage on him and have the bulk to survive his attacks, those that can threaten damage AND have the speed AND have the life to not die immediately still lose to yache berry or a substitute. So essentially you have to run TWO ‘counters’ to garchomp at the minimum AND it still may not be enough because of the 20% chance on sandveil. stuff like mence and scizor are a joke compared to what garchomp did in OU.
edit: Grass knot is really good for type coverage, but not for a main attack. The big thing is that it hits swampert which can otherwise wall/set up on lots of pokemon. There is a decent amount of fairly heavy stuff that won’t like grass knots other than swampert, but he’s the main reason.
Grass Knot is a very solid move and considered the best Grass-type Special move there is. The alternative choice to Grass Knot is Energy Ball, or Hidden Power Grass, which do 80 base damage each. Grass Knot will do 80 base damage to Pokemon in the 110-220lb bracket, any larger than that and it’ll do even more damage.
A majority of the Pokemon who are weak to Grass and show up in the competitive metagame fall into the 220-440lb bracket, so your Grass Knot will be doing 100 base damage on average. Vaporeon’s the only competitive Pokemon I can think of off the top of my head that’s weak to Grass and weighs less than 110lbs.
Then yeah, you’ve got Swampert, who takes 4x damage from Grass.
eh sleaz
HP Grass does 70 base, not 80
Leaf Storm.
imo.
Leaf Storm
imo too.
what the hell I could’ve swore it was 80
Now I need to reconsider teaching Explosion to my Gengar.
someone battle me. i’m 11-2 with my new team i just made a few days ago i seriously think i have a talent for putting together teams with great synergy and that pair well with each other. it’s so crazy haha.
wanna see how it does with fellow srk’ers.
I’ll battle you, but I need to get my new FC for Diamond, and I haven’t switched anything over to SS yet, and I’m not sure if I will.
I’m going to be using a team that I haven’t used in a long time. :V
New FC is 2965 7685 6070
:edit:
Router settings aren’t going to let me do any battling. =/
damn so you can’t battle? =(
Iirc, it’s the grass move of choice in ubers because of Groudon and Kyogre. I’m not sure about OU and under.
sorry for all of the questions guys lol but i got more
is there a master ball in this game?
my team right now is: 34 machoke, 36 feraligatr, 33 togetic, 32 red gyarados from rage lake ( i jumped out of my seat when i caught him i was stoked), 34 ampharos, and a 27 magmar.
is this a decent team? i just got done with Mahogany town, and i’ve pretty much outleveled most gym leaders’ pokemon.
when i get to late game, and when i start battling online, are people just gonna own me for free?
for those of you in the battle scene already, is everybody’s pokemon all super high levels like 80+? it seems like it would take forever to get to a high level without some glitch like in red/blue lol
When you battle with another person, you can choose to have levels boosted to lv100 or lv50. Most people just finish getting their moveset and EV spread and leave the Pokemon alone from there.
If anyone challenges you to a battle without levels boosted to 50/100 it’s because they want to use F.E.A.R. against you
I wanted to try out the F.E.A.R. on him.
Laugh.
I used my lv45 Alakazam to take out Sabrina’s lv53 and lv55 Mr. Mime and Alakazam. Stacked Calm Mind + Psychic is ridiculous.
are there any other legendaries in this game that i can get besides
- lugia
- ho oh
- raikou
- entei
- latios
- latias
- groudon
- kyogre
- rayquaza
- mewtwo
- the 3 birds
Pretty silly considering you probably already have those three if you have a legit Arceus :v
So I’ve finally gotten the game. I’ve also done something unprecedented and used a female Pokemon as my starter.
