The OFFICIAL Pokemon thread ver 2.5

lol the error, guess it was like “5 mins is up” :v

yea that match looked pretty good, there was NO way I was letting Darkrai faint that early :bgrin:

Stall Jumpluff can wreck you in Ubers for lulz

I suggest we either change teams or have a UU battle instead next time. :wonder:

…unless you wanna keep the same teams.

I always wanted to try something of that nature. I know people use Blissey still in Uber because she’s just that good at blocking special atkers, even if they are uber (the ones with pressure are a bitch!!)

UU seems fine :bgrin:

Well, IMHO by not EV training or checking for IVs there’s honestly no point to care about nature. But whatever, I’ll give you my run-down (lurked on smogon a lot when D/P came out)

Zard - Anything not belly-drum set sucks balls, and with bellydrum you don’t even need an attack+ nature (Jolly is much better). But lets just turn it into a mixer.

Flamethrower
Flare Blitz
Earthquake
Dragon Pulse

You can easily just dupe these tm’s

Lax- Brave sucks for snorlax, but it doesn’t matter because this set should let you sweep the whole E4 with him at lvl 50.

BodySlam
DoubleTeam
Rest
Shadow Ball

Vaporeon- Just use that.

Zapdos- Take advantage of its huge special attack. Solid in-game choicer.

Roost
T-Bolt
Light Screen
U-turn (for those pesky rock types, hidden power ice/grass woulda been nice)

Edit: Didn’t see you want in-team flyer. Just switch it out with u-turn I guess.

Mewtwo- Anything works honestly. Just have Calm Mind on it.

Calm Mind
Psychic
Ice Beam
T-Bolt

Last choice is up to you, personally I suggest Focus Banded Endure/Endeavor lvl 1 Rattata, but that’s just me

Thx!^ gave me some ideas, a few things though.

Playing Pokemon FireRed, so some moves haven’t been invented yet (Flare Blitz/Dragon Pulse/Roost I think are G4 moves)

With Vaporeon baton passing AA to Snorlax, defense isn’t too much of an issue. I thought about a nature that reduces Special Def, but I also wanted my Snorlax to make the most of Thick Fat.

My Zapdos needs Fly because I didn’t want it on Zard. Since I think Roost is G4 I thought about…

Thunderbolt
Fly
???
HP Grass/Ice (I hope it’s that when I give him HP!!!)

It doesn’t help that it’s naive, since speed is pretty useless ingame.

EDIT: Or maybe

Zapdos

Thunder
Fly
Rain Dance
HP Grass/Ice

OH shit I totally forgot it’s 3rd gen lol. OK, the chances you get HP-Grass or Ice is not good, considering you have no idea what it’s IV’s are and such (IV’s determine what HP it has). Let me redo it then.

Zard
Flamethrower
E-Quake
Return
Dragon-Claw

Zapdos

The chances of you getting HP Grass/Ice is very very unlikely, considering you need certain IVs in certain stats. It’s not even a 2/9 chance, but rather a 2/100+ chance. I suggest this.

T-bolt
T-Wave
Light Screen
Fly

Just saying, fly is a very shitty move. Just use a Pidgey or something lol.

Fully agree I hate FLY! But I hate bringing that pidgey out of the box just to get around even more lol.

Light Screen could help though! Thx for the suggestions.

Another update on my Zapdos

Ok so after getting TM10 off pickup, it was time to test what HP this thing has. I did, and here’s the in-game moveset at a naive nature.

Thunderbolt
Light Screen
Fly (god I hate this move, but I need it to keep pigey in the box. Best believe I want Drill peck)
HP Fire

That’s right, HP FIRE! That’s not a bad Hidden Power actually, but for Zapdos it is. He’s pretty useless against all the geodudes/gravelers in this game. Not to mention Onix…another problem is that there is no true rock pokemon that’s in Kanto except for probably extinct pokemon. This is because everything that’s “rock” in kanto is also “ground”. So Zapdos cannot use thunderbolt either. Sucks, but no other alternative.

Good news is that there’s A LOT of bug pokemon in kanto. Also annoying grass types with that stun spore, which fire destroys them. Magnamite, being the only steel I can think of in Kanto, is also effected. Ice is affected, but most ice types are part water (this game is just made like that :wasted:) still nothing that a good thunderbolt can’t handle.

I changed Charizard’s Moveset also

Aerial Ace
Fire Blast
Rock Slide
EQ

Stall Jumpluff in Ubers and OU is love! :lovin:

Someone was able to place very high in the Ubers ladder on the Smogon Shoddy Server using a Stall Jumpluff, since nothing is faster than Jumpluff with sun in Ubers apparently.

lol I use that move a lot.

If fly wasn’t a two staged atk it would be useful.

Aren’t you able to avoid most of the attack when you are in the air?

Yeah and in the turn that you “fly up high” they take out whatever pokemon was vulnerable to flying type moves. It useless for competitive play.

Yea, but the dodge isn’t worth the base it damages. Not unless something explodes/selfdestructs (I lol when I’m in the air and CPU does this)

Some moves still hit you while in the air. In R/B, swift can hit you. I think Thunder can still hit you too.

OK. Now I see.

Yeah, trying to outspeed a Pokemon with a 700 speed stat is no easy task regardless of what tiers you’re playing with. Best part is as long as you know what you’re doing Jumpluff is brain dead easy to use successfully.

In OU having Jumpluff in play with a full layer of spikes and stealth rock on the field is a rather crippling combination. I have very fond memories of the set and would love to toy with it again.

Both Thunder and Sky Uppercut can hit during the first part of Fly.

hating on the metagame - yeah I hate hyper offense teams…I dunno I just feel that there’s little thought in making one. You have something fast and hits hard and that’s it. anything that I had that was fast and heavy hitting usually was revenge killer and even then it was never guaranteed payback.

last one I used was garchomp and since his ban Flygon was a poor substitute.

again fuck hyper offense…carefully planned stall is like chess to me…if they added in now and again critical hits like randomly taking out a chess piece.

queen dropping the knowledge  I totally forgot about S/U.

Well, like I said unless GF stops improving already OU/BL pokemon it’s gonna be difficult to stall. I ran SkarmBliss on allan recently and he tore it down pretty fast, yet when we played an uber match my Deoxys-D stalled his Deoxys-A. It’s possible to still stall in OU it just requires MAJOR thought now, there’s so many wall breakers and new movesets that are getting tested accordingly.
