I hate work…no Darkrai for me… oh well…I don’t play Ubers anyway… or at least thats what I’ll keep saying since I don’t have one… haha
After reading some random “typing” article I figured I’d explain just what is good typing…and what isn’t IMO. Of course, we know what typing means as in a combination of Grass/Poison for example…but is this the idea typing for a standard metagame? While in the metagame, you notice what usually is “good” typing and what are the “bad” ones. Some typing of course, have ALWAYS been a pain since R/B/Y - and they haven’t changed one bit.
Examples of Good Typing
Water - Ok so this isn’t a typing. But water is a good type by itself, it’s that versatile. Defensively it can hold against a lot of the other types, and it’s not bad offensively either. Most water types are commonly referred to as “bulky” - they have massive amounts of HP within them. They are usually hard to bring down since electrical attacks can be seen a mile away - every team usually has at least one water type/combination in the group.
Steel/Psychic - Psychics weakness are now eliminated. Sure, you give up weakness to ground and fire…but everything else is in for a rough time plus the poison immunity. You gain more than what you lose…making this an idea typing.
Ghost/Dark - No weakness, this is good typing. Blocks Fighting, which is super effective against 5 other types. Also, Psychic immunity is always welcomed.
Water/Dragon - Water mixed with dragon. Excellent typing, dragon attacks can be seen a mile away. Weaknesses to electric/grass are now eliminated, you gain more than what you lose again.
Steel/Dragon - Uber sense, but still very effective. Blocks just about everything, however still has problems with fighting.
Bug/Steel - Excellent typing. Ground is no longer a problem, and fighting gets neutralized. Fire is all I can think of in pwning this combination…rock isn’t a prob.
Water/Grass - I think this one’s ok. Most people tend to forget what’s its weaknesses are.
Flying/Ground - A weird type! But very effective, you can get stabs off ground moves while flying says it all. Plus thunder immunity is nice, too bad it has issues with ice.
Examples of bad typing
Grass - In-game, Grass is too damn godly. Rapes everything early, easy to lv up - you’re probably thinking it’s the same way in the metagame. Nope, grass is poor typing…in a standard battle vs a human trainer at least. Too many attacks are at a low power base, and they struggle against hard hitters and ice beams. So many damn Grass types are combined with poison, which is…
Poison - Pathetic. Sure, that gengar fucking rapes. But it can’t touch steel…and it can only strike ONE super effective type. Odd that it’s grass huh? It does block fighting, one of it’s few advantages and rids toxic spikes…still sucks though.
Fire/Flying - Bad typing. EQ now longer a nuisance yeah, yet you give up weakness to electric. You also give up neutrality to Ice, and is X4 by rock or anything of the like.
Bug/Flying - EQ was never a real issue to begin with, so was fighting…as a bug. Now you get zapped, frozen, and pwned by rocks.
Rock/Ground - This has been the nightmarish of types since R/B/Y. Everything just about KO’s you, and you are usually too slow to do anything about it.
Rock/Dark - It’s not as good as people think, Tyran without that sandstorm boost will be in trouble. X4 Fighting is NOT a good thing, and EQ is very common. Throw in weaknesses to water, bug, grass…not very good.
Rock/Flying - Poor at best, getting boltbeamed hurts.
There’s probably more, just the ones off my head.
QFT
I think poison should be super effective against normal. Rock/ground is just the lowest tier of the game. I think one bubblebeam from Rhydon can OHKO Golem
It’s been discussed among WS and I that Poison should have been super effective against Water…that alone would have balanced the bulky waters a LOT!
But bulky waters are already balanced, they’re used so much because they make GREAT ice beam platforms.
Poison isn’t that bad actually we simply rag on it because grass is never used in the current meta (if grass was as common as water types Poison would be the new TBolt).
Also gyara is fine until it gets a DDance or 2 in its system.
psyyyyduck.
Sooo…
About the team that I had up there
If I put in Heracross, then both PZ and Heracross would be choicers, unless if I changed PZ into a NP PZ, should I do that?
I never like to put in more than 2 choice pkmn in a team…but more often than not 1 choice pkmn is good.
So, I’m going to make my little PZ into a Nasty Plot one, k
Then add Heracross and Claydol.
:edit:
Now I have
Claydol
Heracross
Empoleon
Infernape
Gliscor
Porygon-Z
Which should I have as a lead?
id say infernape
gliscor a passer/has SR?
if so Id consider that
depending on the sets…Gliscor or Infernape.
People still play this game?!
jk. If someone wants to battle, just say so.
wouldn’t a Gyarados have a pretty good time against this team? Gliscor, Claydol, and Infernape are weak to water, and if you switched in Empoleon Gyara could use EQ. And if it’s a DD Gyara(which are supposed to be a common starter) it’s most likely to have both waterfall and EQ. Porygon-Z is pretty fragile so a STAB’d waterfall could probably take it down too. Just a thought, I am not the most advanced pokemon player, but I just noticed it when I looked at the team.
Meh, I’m just going to stick Forry in for Claydol.
I’ll play you with my new team I have been testing out on gfaqs… :wgrin:
Choice Scarf set still out speeds DDX1 Gyara, so Hera can sneak in a stone edge. For Porygons Z’s fragility, he can sash it and hope SR isn’t up by them and revenge STAB him with Tri Attack or in worse cases TBolt.
If gyara were coming in as the clean up late game sweeper, he’d definitely have a bigger edge than the usual lead off. But don’t like that because by then those rocks are probably up lol, so his effectiveness is hindered a bit.
Emp with Defensive EV’s may survive an unstabed quake and hit back with HP Electric.
Imma try to download Pokemon Shiny Gold, I wanna play those hacked G/S titles
I have my PZ as Timid, if I give him a Sash and Nasty Plot, would that work?
Hmm…just make sure you predict right…SS/hail will ruin your sash…
also try not to switch into Gyra attacking if he already had a DD
Depends. I don’t see a lot of Timid nature porygon z’s only modest and choice scarf sets. For modest, the speed EV’s are pretty much maxed out. It could still work, however people just go with download + scarf if speed is the major problem.
