Well I just had to start my play of FFXIII over due to my own laziness and I played for about an hour then shut it off. I went for a walk instead, got caught in the rain, came home soaking wet and i still feel like it was time better spent.
Beyond Good & Evil HD is soooo fucking good! $10 for it is a steal IMO, I’m mad I didn’t hop on that when it first came out, but better late than never!
Hey SW, you said you played Wild Arms 3. Did you get the later ones ? If so, are they worth it?
How’s things going in the Uncharted 3 Beta? I’ll be back on tomorrow night when I get the ps3 back to a house with an internet connection.
I’m only at about rank 13 or so in the U3 beta. Need to get back on it when I can.
Better than me. Last I remember, I was rank 5
Wild Arms 4 was bad. Wild Arms 5 was much better, but still not as good as 3. Highly, highly enjoyable, though. Enjoyable enough for me to 100% it. The only thing I hate about it is the freakin’ ending. You have to play the game and see for yourself. It’s not a bad ending, per se… I just personally hated the ever-loving shit out of it. Oh, and as always, the soundtrack is a winning soundtrack. Wild Arms games don’t have bad soundtracks. It’s impossible.
Shame, how you feel about Valkyria. It’s amazing. Oh, well.
Nier and Folklore are fantastic. Nier moreso for the story. Best RPG storyline this generation, hands down, and it does some pretty interesting shit (There are 4 endings you get in sequence after subsequent playthroughs. After the 4th ending, the game self-deletes all Nier save data from your PS3’s hard drive. Why? Play the game and find out. Be sure to back up your files before that 4th ending. It’s a doozy.)
You’ve also got Dragons Age, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect 2, on the western side of things. I can’t speak on any of them, because I haven’t played them yet, but the general consensus seems to be that these games are the business, and definitely worth trying out.
Read RadiantsilverTroll’s post about FF13. Then read it again. Do it as many times as you have to, then put your wallet back in your pocket and close out of that Amazon FF13 sales page. Then delete all FF13-related cookies and clear your cache.
Stop hatin.
Yah XIII was sub-par to me (and alot of folks) but you should still try it. There are some people who really loved it. Can’t tell how you’ll react until you play.
WHY YO WHY IS FF13 ASS…lol
I need to know…please…lol
I was checking out some gameplay on youtube of RPG’s I might hit one of them up some day…(being college broke my limit is under $25 atm…) so I want to try it I guess but I need to first know whats so bad?
I think many can agree that the battle system was one of it’s few good qualities
FFX-2 had a better battle system. So did FFXII. Gambits, son.
And Sazh.
It’s not ass. People over-exaggerate when they say how bad it is. They like to pretend that most modern video games aren’t “walk down corridor, complete objective X”, when in most cases, they actually are. The battle system is actually pretty awesome, the story is actually not that bad once you get into it (which is the one true qualm I have with the game, it takes about 15-20 hours to actually pick up and make you feel like you’re playing a FF game). It’s no FFVI, but it’s far from a legitimately bad game.
I mean, straight up, it’s not for everybody, but the way people react to it you’d think it was the shittiest game in RPG history, when in reality if was called anything besides “Final Fantasy”, people would be all up on its proverbial nuts. I guess I’m in the SRK minority when I say that I enjoyed the game, but it had some of the best characters in any recent RPG that I’ve played, and there’s not many that I don’t play.
The issue that a lot of people have with the game is that the “end game” of it actually starts after you’ve finished the game. You can’t get to free-roam in Australia until you’re pretty much finished with the game, and to a lot of people, character-development (not story-wise, but stats-wise) is a large part of RPGs (which is fair enough, of course). Plus, there’s Hope, who’s a whiny bitch. But Fang’s delicious collarbone balances it out.
edit: My one piece of advice to you is, once you think you understand the game and you decide that it makes sense to you and that you’re at the point where you can start farming for gear and levelling your shit up, just move on with the story. You’re nowhere near where you can actually make any significant improvement in your characters. I wasted probably 5 full hours grinding what I thought was a good spot, only to find out that I barely put a dent in what was needed later on in the game.
Fuck XII.
Wash your mouth of those blasphemous words, ashlips.
At any rate, the nigga is broke, and will most likely cop FF13 anyway. I await his post upon completion.
The battle system is one of its few good qualities. It’s everything else. It commits the number 1 crime entertainment media can commit…it’s boring. The story is flat and boring and they throw terms at you with no context or explanation. You have to look em up in the in game codex of information. They do this a lot.
Another thing they do is split the narrative up between groups of people and then do a piss poor job of pacing combat upgrades. They give you cool new shit like summons or something (Yes this ignoring that they are useless, bare with me) and then make you switch teams to a different group who lack those upgrades. I was stoked to finally get 4 ATB guages and could really start building combos strings only for them to switch me to Sazh and Vanille 30 seconds later, who had two ATB gauges and no summons. It’s like someone giving you a PS3 for your birthday but telling you can’t have a game for it till Xmas. It’s a big “fuck you!” I promptly turned the game off and didn’t play it for 6 months, till today where the boredom fastly set in and i was wondering why i was doing this again.
And FFXII is the shit. Best one since 9.
Edit: Also the Crystarium is a boring, retarded ass abilities system. Also Paradigms would better if they could be set like Gambits.
I enjoyed 12 a lot, the battle system was fun for me and Balthier was pretty much the best character ever. The voice acting, aside from Vaan, was pretty good and the story actually made sense to me.
Hmmm I am kinda interested.
Oh Batlhier had me from the moment he introduced himself as the Protagonist lol.
But X is the GOAT  CTB and controlling summons>>>>>>>>>>>>>
But Balthier was really cool though
