Eh I plan to upgrade to 500 GB in a few months hopefully, until then I just need to be use as less space as possible (I have 8 GB left ATM)
Ace Combat: AH Demo out today on US PSN guys, GET HYPE!(?)
…and it looks like the 2 PSP GoW games will be on EU PSN 2morrow. Will see how much they cost and if I like the price i’ll get them, otherwise wait for a price drop on them X3
What the hell do you guys put on your hard drives that takes up so much space? Do people actually store media on those things? Do people keep crap on their hard drives that they dont need anymore? You know, like old game installs and demos and shit? I dont know how big the hard drive is on my PS3 but its basically empty. A couple game installs, a demo I never tried and those 2 free games I got from the welcome back shit.
^ Movies, music, and install data. The majority of my space is taking up by installs, and I have a 160GB HDD.
Crazy. You must’ve played like 5 games this entire gen, then. My 160GB is basically full, I have to find shit to delete off of it all the time whenever I buy a new PSN game or get a new game and it requires an installation. I want a 1 TB HDD, that I could see lasting me until this generation ends.
Oh yeah just a heads up for those that have been wanting to get Red Dead Redemption; this October a GotY edition will be released and will have the main game & the zombies version-
So why the fuck dont you delete some of those installs? Do you keep old installs there just so you can say you’ve used up most of your hdd space? Thats just silly. I suppose you’ll say something like you may want to play those games again some day. Well then just re-install them if/when that day comes. Im curious as to why you would put movies and music on the hard drive of your PS3? Do you not own a PC?
I read a bit after my other post and I see that one guy likes to back his media up on his PS3. But if you just want to back shit up why not just pay 30 bucks for a 500gb external hard drive just for that purpose? I know its like a “if I have it im gonna use it” kind of thing but if you’re just gonna fill it up with crap and end up spending more money to upgrade the hard drive why not just save yourself the hassle and back shit up on an external hdd?
Thats what I do. I have a 500gb and 1tb external HDD. The 500gb is strictly for backing up games from steam and the 1tb is for (sad to say) more room on my DVR.
Because not everyone uses PS3’s just for gaming? My sister has a lot of her music and media in general on her PS3 because she uses her laptop solely for school and work. She has it all backed up on a external just in case.
No need to be all uppity about it. It’s their system. They’ll do whatever the fuck they want with it.
As long as it had an install option & wasn’t a game I planned on trading in, I just left that data on my HDD. Shorter load times (no matter how marginal) couldn’t hurt, & nothing says “killjoy” better than popping in an older game for shits 'n giggles, only to be greeted by the mandatory install prompt
Really whittled my collection down since then, mostly just PSN titles. I see Sonicabid playing a different game practically every time I care to check, so I can see how he’s running out of storage space.
I understand that people will do whatever the fuck they want with their shit but it just seems very silly to me. Even more so when people are going on about how they have no hard drive space on their PS3. And if your sister has all her media back up on the external hdd why does she have it stored on the PS3? Why not just plug that external hard drive into it?
Also, where did your sister get her media? On your computer? Most likely on her laptop. So now she has a laptop full of media, an externall hdd full of media and a ps3 full of media. The same media.
Upgraded to 500 awhile ago. So heavenly not having to think twice about what to put on the HDD and sacrificing installs just to play another game.
THIS. Mandatory install, updating the game with patches, and DLC. I wanted to get back into MGO after I got my new PS3 but I had already deleted the data, and MGO has the worst online system I’ve ever played on. Fuck updating that shit.
She probably removed it from the laptop once she imported it to the PS3 since the laptop is her school computer. Good chance she removed it all once it was moved.
And i get what you’re sayin an all, but different strokes man. the space is there, might as well use it. If your hurting for space that’s one thing, sonic should probably do some spring cleaning, but really if your not maxing the thing out and hurting for space, I don’t see why it’s silly to use said space if it’s there. No reason to spend money for more space when you have free space and aren’t hurting for more. That seems quite silly to me honestly.
The thing is, these people are obviously hurting for space. All so they can keep old games on there that they probably wont ever play again. Or so they can put media on there that is probably also stored on their pc that they can just stream. Its like The Wife and her clothes. She has a closet and dresser full of clothes that she never wears but she wont get rid of it because she may wear it again some day. Give me a fuckin’ break! Toss that shit out! Its like that lame show that I seen on netflix called Hoarding or Hoarders. Except these people in this thread are digital media hoarders. hehe
Anyhow, I’ll stop talking about this crap now. Its pretty pointless and this thread isnt about HDD storage.
Well thats why i said said if they’re hurting for space then they should probably do a hefty bit of spring cleaning, but why dog on his sis? She’s not hurting for space, it seems she has plenty of it. For whatever reason she doesn’t want the external plugged into the PS3 all the time, so she keeps media there. A good chunk of the PS3s OS is all about media, i dont see why it’s silly to keep media there, unless space is an issue.
I mean yea, people, if your out of space, instead of running out and getting a bigger HDD, clean that fucking thing out and THEN see if you need more space. Don’t just buy a new one because.
Well, I was just making assumptions about his Sister seeing as he brought her into this conversation. I mean, she had to get her media somewhere and it was most likely from her own laptop. I dont really see that as doggin’ her but whatever. That dude thought I was being uppity but I wasnt. Just being curious.
Anyhow, Im gonna give Demons Soul’s another try here. Ive been playing too much Deus Ex and I need a distraction from that. Im just gonna start over because I didnt really get so far the first time I played it. What class is the best for a beginner? I didnt even understand what the hell was going on the first time I played. I was doing the tutorial and some giant beast dude killed me and then I ended up somewheres else. I made my way out of that place with the golden shiny door like things and was at some castle that I could never get passed. I got to some giant knight looking guys with glowing blue or red all over’em and they just killed me every time I got to them.
I find myself using my PS3 as a media center more than my PC mostly because it’s convenient, but also I love the fact that it upscales shows/movies to 1080p. I do have installs of older games that I haven’t played in a while, but the reason I have those still installed is for the same reason as Gren. I don’t want to get hit by a 20-30 minute install when firing up an older game for fun/nostalgia/trophy hunting/online/etc. I do get rid of old install data of rented games or games I know for sure I won’t bother to play again, though.
Watching movies/shows and listening to music on my PS3 > my PC. I’ll upgrade to 1TB at some point so I never have to worry about space, but I hear after you backup to a new HDD it doesn’t keep your old trophy progress? That sucks if true.
