The OFFICIAL "New To Shoryuken.com? Say Hello!" THREAD

Hello SRK!

I’ve been playing games - including fighting games - since 1989. However, it’s only been recently that I’ve really gotten into fighting games, mainly SSFIV. I’m maining Bison at the moment, but I’m still really trying to figure out my own style. I was always a pad player growing up, but I picked up a TE Fightstick and now I’m trying to learn all over again. My hope is to start getting out to more tournaments, meet more people both online and in person, and just keep getting better and better.

My PSN ID is UMassDarkside, and I’m always looking for new people to play and new stuff to learn!

What’s up, everyone? I just joined yesterday and I feel that this forum has a cool group of people that are actually respectful towards one another without calling each other names, which is completely uncommon with many other forums I’m a part of. I’m from Columbus, OH and I first thought that the Midwest scene was non-existent, but that is definitely not the case.

As far as my history with fighting games go, I started out with SF II on the SNES. I used to live near an arcade that had the standard fighters (SF, MK, KI, Primal Fury…lol) but I was never able to do as well in the arcades than I did at home. Eventually, the widespread closings of arcades became apparent and I played games at home. As new systems were released, so were more fighting games. I also enjoyed the Power Stone series and the various “Vs.” games that came out.

As far as current gen fighters, I started playing SFIV and realized that the game was very different than most other Street Fighter games. I played a little of the Alpha series and 3rd Strike, but I didn’t get heavily into them. I quickly realized that the Xbox 360 controller wasn’t meant for fighting games, so I purchased a fight pad because I liked the feel of a pad and it was something I was more accustomed to for years. Now that SSFIV came out, I just recently bought a TE fightstick and I’m getting used to the feel of using one. At the moment, I main Adon with Fei Long as my secondary. I’m looking to pick up a third character, but I want to wait until I get used to the fightstick.

I hope that this post wasn’t too long for you guys…lol

Hello everyone, I’ll try make this short and sweet! Although I’ve just joined practically a few minutes ago, I’ve always been a long time lurker to the site. I’ve never really had any desire to actually get connected to the community until recently, after the recent huge resurgence in the genre. I been playing Street Fighter since Alpha 2 on the Sega Saturn when I was like 7, and have been hooked ever since. Although there’s not much of a fighting game scene down here in Miami, I do consider myself to be pretty good, and on the verge of being ready to compete on at least a regional level. The main game I play is SSFIV, but I also play HD Remix, Tekken, and MVC2, but I’m admittedly not as good in that game. Signed up in the hopes of meeting other terrific Street Fighter players like myself, as well as improving my game as I plan on hopefully becoming heavily involved in the tournament scene in the coming years.

Cheers to all, and I hope to be apart of this community for a long time!

I’m pretty sure theres a huge Fighting Game scene in Miami. Check the regional matchmaking forums.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! After exploring the regional forums I’ve discovered there are many SF players in the area. Planning on getting really involved in the scene now. Thanks again!

well this thread is doing better than when I made the exact same thing. but I had some tight guidelines/rules. silly me

Hey everyone.
I’m a fairly big fan of fighting games. Because they’re awesome.
I’ve tried a bunch of other competitive game genres - my other main genre is the RTS (even though I’m terrible at them =D) - I always keep coming back to the fighting game, just because it can be played button-mash casual (the way I started out) and at competition level.

Anyway, I’m working through a fair few games at the moment. Now that I’ve got my Dreamcast emulator working, I can finally test what I want to do for Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK 2 (and have been doing so).
Oh, and I’m a fairly big SNK fanboy. But I do like Capcom’s fighters a lot also. Guilty Gear rocks as well.
Here’s a list of games and characters I play:
Garou: Terry Bogard
KoF - ‘98: EX Kyo, Terry, Iori|2k2: K’, Kusanagi, Terry
SF - Alpha 3: Guy (A-ism)|Third Strike: Ken (SA3), Akuma (SA1)|Super IV: Ken (Ultra 2), Guy (Ultra 1) (these only count once I get Super IV XD)
SamSho V Special: Genjuro Kibagami
MvC 2: Ryu (Projectile), Jill Valentine (Heal), {Akuma or Cable (Projectile), haven’t decided yet}
CvS 2: Haven’t got a full team, but definitely looking at A-Groove
UMK3: Human Smoke
Tekken 6: Kazuya Mishima

Yes, I play UMK3. Because it’s awesome.

hi im new…anyways nice to meet you people ;]

Gasp. What do you mean… you people?

Hello.

I’ve been playing fighting games for a long time but never really got serious about them. I recently have decided that I want to, of course.

Currently looking to get better at SF, but along the way I’m sure I’ll go after most “bigger” games.

Got a long way to go haha…Hope to find some others around my area to come along with me.

Whats good SRK?

i just recently discovered SSF4 when i was playing my former roommate’s 360. now that im on my own im looking for a site selling systems for cheap. any suggestions?

anyways, i mainly played as Fei and Bison. Might start experimenting with Abel when i get my own shit. im not that big into fighting games cause im a sore loser even when it comes to video games so i tend to send mate hate mail. other than SF, i will probably only be playing sports and shooters.

Madden, 2K, MW2, and L4D2 are my other favorites. be looking out for nikeSBstunna 89 on XBL in the next few weeks. ill play somebody in SF if they’re willing to give some lessons but if you’re just looking for some easy target practice then i suggest you get your kicks somewhere else.

EDIT: i stay in ATL btw.

awesome people what else ^.^

I waited for a bit, but I’ll introduce myself now…

As you can see, I am KeiForce. Not Key-Force, not Kai-Fours, just the Kei-ist Force to ever have been… forced. Mmm, Yes, quite.

As for my rotation and aspirations, I… try to play literally everything I can get my hands on, but I’m focusing on:

Super SF4 (Starting to get more involved with what Super Scene we have here in Indy, but I’ve been playing every SF game I could get my hands on for quite a while.)
Street Fighter 3
BlazBlue (and by extension GG)
Melty Blood (C’mon Capcom published XBLA/PSN Release of MBAA:CC! You know you wanna~),
Tekken 6 (Funny thing is, I’ve been playing Tekken the longest, but… I never liked it until Tekken 4. I PLAYED it, like a fiend, but I was ‘Meh.’ about it. Weird, huh?)
Tatsumaki Vs Captain Commando (Ignore me, I’m being an idiot here. XD)
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (I still have a copy of the PS2 Version. o_o)
Soul Calibur (Since 2, baby, yeah!)
Super Smash Bros. (Not so much now, but that’s because all of the rest of my crew has stopped playing.)

I play a bunch of other games, though, I’m a hardcore gamer that likes some casual games, but personality wise, I can like and accept just about ANYTHING that isn’t inherently BAD.

I’m a Pad-player, but I feel I definitely could get better with a stick. I actually am working on finally picking up a Hori Stick for my 360 so I can at least start adapting my muscle memory before I move up to a TE stick.

As for my ambitions, I wish to play at competitive levels, and just be able to have fun at the same time, though I feel even when losing, if I didn’t get absolutely steamrolled, it was a fun match for me.

That being said, even against a stronger opponent, I hold back. It’s not something I do out of disrespect or anything, it’s literally something I can’t control well. It’s like I artificially pace the match to make it more cinematic, I guess. Fine for casuals, not so much for competitive play. :\

EDIT:, Oh did I mention I am going to school for software engineering? I think I’ll probably have one of my projects as a… Game of a particular sort.

Hello, this is my first post on shoryuken.com. I am currently living in Nagoya, Japan and am playing mostly Super Street Fighter IV right now. I also have Tekken 6 but haven’t been playing it lately. My goal with SSF4 is to get back to the point where I feel I can play online and win some matches.

I believe this is my 2nd or 3rd post… just wanted to say hey. Been lurking for a while, finally made an account a few weeks ago!

SSFIV is the first one that I’ve played since Super Turbo.

Just as an update folks: If you are really just starting SSF4, you might be wondering, “Which character should I pick first?”
