The Official NBA 2014-2015 Thread: Simp City

You put them back to back as if they were both what you meant. Either way, everybody likes Jimmy but if he can buy me Love he’s gotta get the fuck up outta here.[/quote

Thank god for three team trades, eh?

There’s “playing pg” and then there’s “being the pg.” Monta was never a go-to pg for any team.

In fact, in 2007-2008, he had a higher usage rate at sf than as a pg. He might bring the ball up to call plays sometimes, but that’s pretty much it.

You were wrong. Chalk it up.

Falling back on semantics is bush league.

Is it time for “what is considered a REAL point guard?” agrument now? It’s probably been a few months and we haven’t talked about Westbrook in a while…

Yeah, Robert Horry’s shot was clearly rigged.

Manute Boll best PG ever.

I don’t think it’ll happen, but I can see Minnesota epically blowing this trade situation and watching Love walk away for nothing. I’m trying to think of the last time in any sport that a team had the chance to trade its top player and blew it like that. Can’t remember it though.

Orlando with Dwight Howard, Lakers with Gasol, New Orleans with CP3.

^^ Dwight Howard

I provided facts, and the stats back it up whether you like it or not. Out of all of his team’s 5-Man lineup configurations per season (which is usually a dozen or so), Monta always plays pg in only one or two of them every single year. He has played sf more than he has played pg.

Deal with it.

You somehow thought Monta/Parsons would play positions they don’t normally play in order to accommodate Aminu, who is a total scrub unworthy of being a starter. Seriously… what coach would ever agree to that?

Smfh…

The fact is he started at PG for the vast majority, if not his ENTIRE GSW career. You specifically said, he never played PG. “Ever.” Stats don’t change that.

The more you talk, the more dumb you make yourself look. Have you ever even watched Monta Ellis play? When has he ever played SF? my guess is you were too busy watching Miami.

Spoiler

Another fact is that Parson can play SG and guards any position 1-3.

Just stop.

Yeah, unless I missed something, Monta never played SF for GSW. He’s 6’3", and not even Don Nelson would try that at SF.

Speaking of NellieBall, I do recall a random game where he used Corey Maggette and Stephen Jackson at PF and C, respectively.

Pulling stuff out of your ass? Cute.

Here’s facts for you.

2005-2006, Monta’s rookie year: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/2006.html

Baron Davis, Derek Fisher and Will Bynum were the PG rotation while Ellis backed up Jason Richardson. He never played PG a single time, so that already destroys your “he played pg for his entire GSW career” bullshit.

Oh, you want more? Of course you do.

Let’s talk about the 2009-2010 Warriors.

What do you see here? How often is Ellis pg in those rotations?

Now look at “Production By Position.” Notice what it says: Min means “percentage of the team’s total minutes the player was at that position.” Notice that the PG position was the lowest percentage for Monta.

We could go down the list for his entire career, you’ll see similarities for how he’s used.

Basically… you’re an idiot and you don’t know enough about what we’re talking about. And spare me the gay gifs when you think you made a point (when you didn’t). That’s so “bush league.”

I’ve watched plenty of Monta Ellis’ games. Either your eyes are terrible or you don’t know enough about basketball to properly spot matchups, so you would never know when they had him at SF for specific lineups.

Monta did play both PG and SG, not a conventional or an ideal PG, but he did play the position, especially when Curry was out at times. Spoelstra himself stated he prefers not to use 1’s or 2’s or pg’s and sg’s, but rather the duties or plays you carry out when you’re on the floor. Monta is naturally a wing, yes, but as an ex-captain, he did facilitate and distribute like a PG. If you’re going by size, Monta is not exactly your an ideal big guard either. Not sure how that would compliment a point guard. The dude is 6’3".

He’s played sf plenty of times. Just last year, I saw a game where they had Calderon, Devin Harris and Monta at sf for speed and fastbreak purposes.

These are all on-the-fly matchups. Average fan never even notices.

Like I mentioned before, Monta has “pg duties” by occasionally calling plays and bringing the ball up, but that does not make him a pg… which is what people in here fail to get.

Dwyane Wade did the exact same thing early in his career, averaging 6-7 assists despite playing alongside point guards such as Rafer Alston, Jason Williams, Rio… etc. He was always the sg while doing it, the same way Monta does his playmaking.

The only times Monta really had a grip on the pg position was when either Baron Davis or Steph Curry were out with injuries.

Ah ok, I kept my scope to GSW. I couldn’t find any data on Calderon, Harris, and Ellis playing together last year, but I presume it was a super rare thing. Oh Rick Carlisle, you crazy for playing three 6’3" guards at the same time!

Let’s talk about the illogic behind playing 6’10" Chandler Parsons at SG.

At SG, he has nearly no advantage in matchups besides height. As a small forward, which has been the case in his career thus far, he has both height and agility as an advantage. At power forward, if a team wanted, he could be a stretch 4 with unmatched speed/quickness.

So tell us again CTG, in all of your infinite wisdom, why a team would use hm at the position where he has the least amount of advantages? Go ahead and squeeze out what little b-ball knowledge you have for this one.

Your suggestion is that it would be to accommodate an offensive liability like Aminu in as a starter. The same Aminu who, btw only has 1 out of 4 seasons under his belt being a full-time starter and it was completely lackluster. Yes, Dallas should definitely fuck up their lineup for 7 ppg and no 3p range.

Tbh, lineups like this happen often across the league. Spoelstra played Rio/Norris/Wade together all the time last season and it would drive me nuts. And then he would play Ray Allen at SF as well.

Looks like Byron Scott will be the Lakers new coach

Stephen A Smith would like to comment, but he’s currently battling every feminist on the Internet
