The Official NBA 2013-2014 Thread: Spurs win Championship:Heat cooled off

Well that’s another thing that makes MJ so great.

Charles win MVP? MJ beat him in the finals.
Karl wins MVP? MJ beat him in the finals.

It’s not a matter of ‘giving credit’. It’s a matter of who would you rather have on your team. LBJ’s numbers have come down a bit, why? he’s playing the fewest minutes of his career. Championship roster? HAve you actually LOOKED at the Heat roster? Especially the ‘actually playing roster’? Wade ain’t playing and outside of the big 3, its a bunch of assembled pieces used ot take advantage of the big three, but hell they’d lose to the LOLakers without the Big 3. The roster looks so good BECAUSE of LBJ. Honestly, Durant’s teammates are actually BETTER than LBJs (this season), lets just cut the crap on that. I’ll cancel bosh with Ibaka. Who do the Heat have that cancel anyone else on the Thunder roster? I guess Birdman could cancel Perkins shrug not really an important m/u. On top of it all, everyone keeps saying ‘offensively’ - but part of what makes LBJ and to a lesser extent PG so valuable is that they eat it up on BOTH ENDS, it may not always fill the stat sheet, but they are both elite defenders. Not calling Durant a slouch - those arms are ridiculously long and built for basketball - but he isn’t on their tier when it comes to defense.

If I’m doing fantasy numbers - no question Durant is my top pick. IF I’m building a team to win the chip next year though - LBJ all day. It’s not even a shot at Durant, people are just seeing the numbers and are forgetting how immeasurable some of what LBJ does is on BOTH sides of the floor.

Heat have Pat Riley and the mafia running that organization. Ray Allen, Shane Battier, Rashard Lewis, Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole aren’t better than Derek Fisher, Thabo Sefolosha, Perry Jones, Jeremy Lamb, and Reggie Jackson? The only thing OKC has on the Heat roster-wise is youth and bigs (Collison and Adams are nice off the bench) but so does almost every team in the league. The Heat have vets with multiple championships and the best player in the league who can take over on any given night and get you a win.

We’re not talking about MVP of the playoffs or MVP of the career, we’re talking about MVP of this season, and only this season. Not just from a numbers standpoint, KD is the front runner right now, today. That’s all I’m saying. We can argue about who’s more valuable to their team and who means more all day, but it seems pretty clearly to me that KD has been playing better basketball than LeBron has so far this season.

If LeBron and KD’s stats were switched we’d be handing him the MVP at the AS game, but it’s hard for people to not give the MVP to the best player in the league and I get that. It happens though, people have better seasons than the best player in the league, and they should be rewarded. If Chuck and Karl can win one over the greatest player of all time, why not KD over the best player since Kobe?

Yeah but should they have won? Especially Malone?

There’s validity to your angle - it is for ‘this season’, but I can’t lie - the total body of work plays into the importance of a person to their team. LBJ is literally the engine for MIA. Durant w/o WB is functioning like an engine even though in reality he’s more transmission or chasis. And I do feel OKC’s line-up is better than the Heat’s. Of the 5 players you listed, you can only depend on ‘one a night’ to show up. Shane Battier is doing the Juwan Howard thing this season and should suit up as an assistant after the playoffs. Ray Allen is falling/aging quickly this season, Rashard Lewis NEEDS someone else to draw attention to have ANY level of effectiveness, and Norris Cole is finally on his come up despite statistically - previously being one of the worst players in the league. OKC has balance (i.e. everyone isn’t just a 3 point shooter), Reggie JAckson has become a Westbrook Jr, Lamb was doing great until teams figured out “get him off the 3pt line”, but by the playoffs especially, when you can have time to develop more plays for him, oh he’s going to be nasty - like Danny Green last year nasty.

I dunno, I don’t havean issue with Durant finally getting some hardware - I just don’t get roped in so easily off a ‘streak’.

Miami lost to Washington. Let’s just keep it real.

The Wizards had potential to be good when the season started, so any good win they get shouldn’t really be a surprise. They just aren’t consistent.

wizards are a good team. warriors are just as inconsistent. but yeah…

klay thompson missing wide open shots over and over is starting to be an issue. because he shoots in so much volume and they went to him 3 times down the stretch in makable situations and he just couldn’t hit shit.

Miami can afford losing to the Wizards.

A) Miami are coming off back to back championship. Thus meaning they know they can win on the road/home in the playoffs. In a sense a regular season game doesn’t really mean much to them as long as they finish within the top 4 in the east. To be real the east is so bad they pretty much locked up #2 if they decided to coast the rest of the regular season.

B) They are the champs, everyone bring their A game against them.

Warriors losing to the Wizards is much more worrisome than Miami. One or two games can decide if Warriors end up a #3 seed or a #8 seed. Can’t be losing any unnecessary games.

Damn, Thibs changed DJ Augustin from a bench warmer to a serviceable point guard.
I gotta give props to Thibs for that.

You guys think if Chicago can get melo, will Thibs make him play defense??

Just look at how he’s transformed various players from bench status to serviceable backups or starters.

Nope.

That beatdown that OKC gave to Miami was nuts.

KD needs that MVP asap.

Missed the whole game.

Thunder hadn’t beaten those guys since the finals…almost 2 years ago

OKC, continues to resurrect the corspe of Derek fisher using the Lazarus Pit.

sigh Rockets.

Edit: EAD Dallas.

I haven’t seen the bulls on tv in hella long. How is Dunleavy doing?

Lebron is coasting in one of the weakest easts ever especially on defense this year, plus he has too many mvps already cause they made the nba soft opened the game up for him and he has the technological advantage on mj. You werent getting all of mjs stats and highlights thrown at you back in the day nightly, and he got punished for that. Its KD’s and CP3’s year, shoulder injury makes it harder for cp3 tho this was his yr man. All 3 teams aren’t deep. Also KD gets too many calls its cheap as fuck hes better than that.

He’s doing pretty well. He’s mostly consistent, where he sometimes has his drought days, but I like what I see from him.

Then again I’m getting excited that the Bulls are winning.

Taj Gibson being consistent with his performance every time I see him. Too bad Boozer is never consistent

You know the Heat Defense played poorly when they let D-Fish drop 15 points.
And damn turnovers for days.

Boozer has to be let go. Waste of space
