Sup SRK, I just thought I’d make a new thread dedicated to the Legend of Heroes series, that’s gaining some more traction in the North America, with Trails in the Sky the 3rd set to be released on Steam in 2017 and Trails of Cold Steel 3 in production, following the recent release Cold Steel 2. I’ve recently been re-immersed in the deep and expansive world + lore building between the games in the series. I thought I could share some love on the game here. Here’s some info for the unfamiliar:

Been going through ToCS lately, myself. Not sure if I like it quite as much as TitS, though. It feels like they turned up the animu to 11, and they’ve stolen from Persona wholesale in some aspects.
Still fun overall, though. It’s taken me until about 3/4 of the game to finally see diminishing returns on just loading everyone’s orbments with status inflictors, which happens to be just about the right point where all the good magic starts dropping. Got Jusis loaded up with nuke-n-regen shenanigans that basically makes every random encounter trivial if he gets his turn off first. I’m guessing that’s not gonna last THAT much longer, but I said the same thing about going ham with status effects too…
I personally like the wholesale robbing of Persona, because I’ve been waiting for the new Persona game just like EVERYONE ELSE. I feel like the difficulty of the ToCS is a lot easier than TiTS because of all the different systems that give you a huge advantage. There are WAY more effective crowd control spells in ToCS for sure.
Oh nice, a thread. I finished CS2 last week. I really hope we get the crossbell games, remade or ported(mmm Rixia Mao). I didn’t try out any of the series 2 games because I heard they weren’t that good and the Trails games are the best(they are in my top RPG list for sure).
I would say I enjoyed Sky more than CS like majority of people, but CS was still good in its own right. Bonding events are cool(still need to get Persona 4). For the record, I chose Laura in 1 and Sara in 2. Rush/Burst were ok, a little lackluster. They should have done combination crafts or something.
TITS 3 is out. About 8 hours in(just finished CH2), and I have to say…
Spoiler
… it’s not what I was expecting. I’m assuming the whole game is just one long dungeon crawl and you view story events through the doors? I will reserve full judgment til I have finished the game.

[] ‘Dead Emperor Sword’ will become ‘Sword of Abaddon’ (Loewe’s S-Craft).
[] ‘Pillar of Salt’ will become ‘Salt Pale’,
[] ‘Stainrose’ will become ‘Steinrose’.
[] Grancel museum descriptions will be rewritten and expanded.
[] ‘Master/King of the Lake’ will become ‘Guardian of the Lake’.
[] Duke Dunan will be referred to as “Your Grace,” rather than terms like “Your Excellency.”
[] Capua family group will be sky bandits, ‘Sky Bandits’.
[] The term “flying boats” is being removed, and going forward airships will be the generic term and used for small ships and larger ships will be orbalships.
[] The “hmm-hmm,” “hmmhmm,” “hmhm,” and “hm-hm” sorts of remarks will be altered and removed, to make the first two games more in line with The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd and Trails of Cold Steel I & II.
[] Mr. Fisher, the Fisherman’s Guild president, will now be known as the Fishing Baron.
[] ‘Social sciences’ will become ‘social studies’.
[] The faculty lounge will be used instead of staff office or lounge.
[] Jenis’ dorms will be referred to in a singular fashion, unless someone is discussing the boys and girls dorms at the same time.
[] Olivier’s “In fact, I believe the Imperial Academy was to launch an investigation…but then the Hundred Days War broke out.” line will be altered to reflect that the academy being referenced is The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel’s Imperial Institute of Science.
[] Estelle’s terms for her father will be adjusted for the sake of consistency. For example, She called Cassius “Daddy” as a child in the first game, but “Papa” in the second, so now she will call him “Daddy” in both.
[] Maybelle will be referred to as ‘Mayor Maybelle’ by almost everyone, though Lila will call her ‘Miss Maybelle’ and General Morgan, Kloe, and Yahat call her ‘Maybelle’.
[*] Zane Vathek’s name will be changed to ‘Zin’ for the entire trilogy.

Just finished 3rd. I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I wouldn’t mind dungeon crawlers if it had this good of a story and character development. Although this game did have the luxury of having 2 previous games before it so you are familiar with a lot of the cast before learning even more about them. Really enjoyed the dark direction this game took.
[details=Spoiler]Holy shit Renne’s past. I’m glad it didn’t get censored. Xseed da bes.
Also this track really hit me when I first got there. This part makes you really think about the good ol days with Kevin, Ries, and Rufina. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF11p90v38o

Like most reviewers said, part 3 is pretty much all fan service but with a good story to throw it all together and sets up for other games.
I traded in both cold steel games to amazon($25 lol) and will re-buy it again when it comes to steam. Here’s hoping if and when cold steel 3 gets localized they also bring it to steam.
