Here’s the thing though. Without a regulated list such as an arcade listing, the metagame will eventually evolve. It’s pretty much expected to have dominant characters. Although, there may or may not be matchups that people can utilize to help relieve the dominance of said characters. I’m certain most would argue that there would be matchups to help relieve this.
With that said, Billy, Choi, Bao isn’t as scary with that mindset.
Regardless, the game has a wonderful charm without Boss characters. Concerning EX characters, I personally have absolutely nothing against them. However, playing out of the box has more benefits in the sense that:
Most likely, those characters are indeed intended, moreso than EX characters. Of course, this is arguable.
Arcade rules is, or was a fighting game default. If I recall correctly, SBO uses ARC machines instead of consoles, but that’s not a good statement since the majority of us are in the US. But if it’s any credit, there’s no way to suggest console characters on an ARC machine.
No memory card necessary. We can play right out of the box =]
I remember reading an article somewhere (I think it was David Sirlin’s article, not sure), stating that default characters are “usually” tested for balance (for those who care about balance), moreso than console characters. GGXX, Reload, Slash, and Accent Core are great examples of this considering Justice, Kliff, and EX characters. Those characters generally had a more advantageous resource than the original characters, probably from the lack of testing balance. As such, some would agree that those character’s weren’t intended for competitive play.
Nobody has to “biasedly” ban anybody because of individual opinions. This way, there’s a logic behind the rules besides having to say “That character is broken”
An arcade loketest? This means there will be an arcade version? I agree to this. This means this will be reason enough for those who can play at those arcade locations.
I vote arcade rules. Because even though KOF2K2um isn’t an arcade game, to me it still feels like one. Furthermore, I still play in the arcades =]
I have a question, Goro has lost his invincibility to his qcb+K, but the most important question is that can he CANCEL it whenever he wants. I’m ok with him losing invincibility, but what’s new is that he can cancel that sucker whenever he wants into any move.
So he got toned down, which is fine for balancing purposes, like I said if Geese was toned down to XI incarnation I’d welcome that, and hence he should be played.
Well I just talked to Oscar and he’s the co-runner of my Major…and he feels exactly how I do…that they are two separate games. (Changing of moves constitutes a different game)
And he says that he feels we should not change the rules we have for 2k2UM until it (Revenge) hits arcade and we have access to it. So he feels that the rules we have for 2k2UM (No Goenitz, but Geese +ex characters are legal) should apply to our tournament.
He feels once Revenge hits and certainly console the rules should apply to that.
He will be in here to talk about that.
So that could be the direction we are going depending on when this game is released and furthermore when we are able to get access to a cab of it, and even then if we wanna use that cab for the RS tournament.
Its Tekken all over again, We got 5.0, they get DARK RESSURECTION. :annoy:
Yes, same title, but an upgrade, and we won’t know to the extent of the upgrade until the final version is released. Its just the first loketest now, and I strongly agree that if you are changing any moves to the game then its a different game. It’s like comparing GG Reload to GG Accent Core, they are not the same game, even if it was the same characters and they removed the console characters, if they are changing the moves then its not the same game.
I thought about that and asked Oscar about that, he’ll be in here soon.
Oh okay, so I don’t feel as bad then; because you told me about this title before, i just didn’t know/remember the name.
I agree about the changes and how it should be considered a different title [new revision], but I’m still quite ignorant on this title and KOF2K2 for that matter so I won’t vote…
I really don’t think we should use Revenge rules on 2k2UM since they seem like they will end up different. It just seems kind of stupid and limiting to me…none of us are probably gonna be playing revenge, we’ll all be playing 2k2UM, due to the fact 90% of us don’t have arcades near.
My bad, what I meant was, I’m not informed enough on 2K2 UM, I’ve played KOF2k2 a lot (though not recently) and KOF Neowave to a degree.
I probably should have asked to play a few sessions with you and Shiki to try it out, but I’m not too found of getting raped in games I haven’t had a sufficient amount of time to practice in first.
Understand completely lol. Also I thought about doing Phase III as far as voting for 2k2UM rules, but since we know now that this isnt the only version of 2k2UM then I feel there’s no need to do Phase III votes to see who wants just the EX characters + default and who doesn’t want Geese/Goenitz etc, **because eventually (we hope) we will be playing the upgraded Revenge on consoles anyways right? **
And when we do play Revenge tournaments I believe unless they give us an unlockable like Isolde (I hope so), then the decision who will be legal in regards to the bosses will have already been made for us correct? (No bosses legal unless they pull a Namco and make it for the PSP or Wii or some gay shit like that :annoy: )
Tekken set the standard for us in regards to this ordeal so thats the standard we are gonna follow. T5.0 has 5.0 rules, DR has its own rules…
So 2k2UM has its own rules, and Revenge will have its own set of rules…
** Loketest Cx.com EDIT:** Here’s an interview straight from CX.com with some info from MysticMonkeyGuru/Vice Vecta about the Revenge loketest:
"After we got the heads up from a surprising loketest of KOF 2002 UM (now dubbed in Chinese as Road of Revenge), yours truly and Mystic Monkey Guru decided to cover up this event. As we arrived, we found out that the core game it?s exactly as the PS2 version of the title, however, it does have included the EX characters that are unlockable in the console version (Takuma, Kensou and Robert). There are no apparent changes from the console port to the arcade one, have exactly the same stages (none of the ones displayed in Dr. Neogeo blog), same music, same characters and of course, no bosses selectable (yes, no normal or Nightmare Geese either).
As the matches progressed, an assistant (presumably from SNK-P) was distributing feedback sheets to the players asking mainly 6 questions regarding favorite characters, suggestions about the interface, a rating from 1 to 5, reporting bugs or broken stuff and if you would considering having a further revision of the game if necessary.
***I submitted some of the already known problems like Hinako?s infinite ***and then some Japanese men approached me with my struggles in understanding Chinese? and happened to be members of SNK-P that were monitoring the loketest, including Dr. Neogeo himself, so, I asked if he could grant me a small, informal interview about this title.
Interview
VV: First of all, thank you for accepting this impromptu interview, but sure this event caught us a bit of surprise, a pleasant surprise, I might add.
DrNG: Well, this is because we wanted to have a discrete loketest about this game, as you might noticed, nothing has been posted either in my blog or another official source of SNK-P until the announcement of the Chinese website of the events in Hong Kong and here in Guangzhou.
VV: So, now that it?s official that an arcade version of 2002UM it?s coming, should also be considered to be on another online service like XBL or PSN?
DrNG: At the moment, we are still thinking about it.
VV: How come this title has been dubbed as ?Road of Revenge? and not as Unlimited Match?
DrNG: Because we are still testing out whether this game could be exactly as the PS2 version of UM or have other drastic changes that would make it completely different, everything will depends of the public reaction of these loketests.
VV: So, shall we consider this game as an unfinished version?
DrNG: Probably, probably not, as I said, depends of the feedback given, if most players consider this version optimal then it won?t be necessary another revision.
VV: What are your thoughts or releasing 2002UM/RoR with KOFXII in the same season? Do you think it might come into a clash in between those games?
DrNG: I don?t think so, XII has a completely different gameplay and graphics, a totally new game, while 2002UM/RoR it?s more focused in players that still go for the classic titles of KOF, of course, offering more balance and fun."
My take on this, People are saying about Hinako’s infinite in the game being taken out, if this gets taken out guess what: ITS A DIFFERENT GAME. Plus we need further verification about Kyo-1’s stuff, Daimons roll being cancellable, it not being invincible anymore etc, Fiol could you tell us where you got this info from please?
Sure it looks smaller but I am comparing it with the ps2 version I have right now and its the same, with the exception of the bottom row gone, the blue interface instead of red…
So wait hold up. Basicly 02UM is getting the same treatment as #Reload to Slash. Similiar games, but several tweaks.
It would be awkward to release an updated version of a game that’s been released (talking about consoles)
I said I wanted 02UM in arcades and now it’s coming, but it’s funny knowing there is possibly another console port coming.
They’ll probably give us the same treatment ASW did when #Reload came to US, Slash didn’t, then ^Core came
Well DG, looks like you might have to drop your Geese considering that
1.) The arcades won’t have him
2.) He’s pretty powerful
3.) He was the only boss who made it through the to ban or not to ban trials, but still destroyed the competition.
If there is no updated console release (particuraly for the US) then there might be some problems.
