When you guys went to Japan, I’m guessing you already had some kind of gig there/(job) awaiting for you? Also, how much saved money would you recommend just for a visit?
LOL HeartNana makes an appearance in this promo video for the Kansai Arcana Heart 3 video. The look on his face is sooooooooooooo lol
If you don’t have a nico video account:

Mashy Noel is just doing his thing. That guy is awesome.
Happy new new!
Wassup folks. Happy New Year! If I didn’t say it before.
Lately as for me, I’ve been on intense “Daddy Duty!” This has got to be the weirdest chapter of my life in Japan so far. Never would I have thought that I would be the father of twins in Japan. But low and behold, thus is so. I really don’t want my kids to grow up here in Japan. But if they have to. Oh well. So now I’m taking a real interest in actively learning Japanese. I say actively because I hate studying. So I’m currently looking to learning the language by being more open and conversing more and I’m trying to make my own Japanese-English children’s book.
Does this mean the end of SCOTT POPULAR?! Oh Hell Naw! I just have to learn how to HYPER PLAN things out. Having children has made much more aware of things, and I just have to learn how to optimize my time even more than before. Now, I do not advocate running out and pregged someone up just because I said it help me. Please note that having and caring for a child/children is WHOLE LOT OF WORK!
Now back to some SRK Japan Stuff:
I was talking to Forgenjuro about this last week on the way to my friends semi-gokon and I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about or has had sex in an internet cafe? I want to try so bad but sadly seeing how I stand at about 6’3 weighing in at 215 pounds. I don’t wanna bust-a-nut and then kick the all the cubicles on my side down on accident man.
Wow, congrats man . . . after hanging out this past August, never saw you as a father of twins!
As for your Japanese studies, the best self-motivation you can get outside of a classroom environment is the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. You can take it twice a year in Japan now (June and December IIRC). They also added a new level this year to make the middle-grade Japanese test easier.
I would recommend trying for Level 3 or Level 4. There are 5 levels now (1 being highest, 5 being most elementary). Maybe you could take 4 in the summer and then study for Level 3 for winter?
Once you sign up for one of the tests (you must sign up months in advance), look over the material you need to study and divide it up. Give yourself X amount of time in your day where you have to study this material, I recommend more than 30 minutes but no more than 2 hours.
I have Level 2 proficiency and I passed thanks to planning months in advance with a feasible study plan. If I lived in Japan now, I would make a manga kissa my primary study spot, since you get quiet/privacy and there are usually seats without computers.
Good luck, look forward to meeting Dad Popular at SBO this year!
JLPT is good to start with(i think they changed the format of the test already… last time i took it was 3 years ago and it was 1kyu… and failed LOL), but you can learn more if you have lots of japanese friends who you can talk to on a daily basis and they’re willing to help you, especially since everyday japanese is not exactly like what they test you in JLPT.
oh and regarding jlpt, skip level 4(not worth it), at least start with level 3, easy enough to pass…
Get the pair seat. Its more than doable, but just don’t expect to go buck wild. In these situations, you gotta be content with just getting it in there, getting some movement, and then being able to say you pulled it off.
Or…um…so I heard.
Question regarding transportation in Japan:
Do all the trains announce the stops like they typically would in north american trains? and if so, is there an english translation of the stop?
like for example Main st is written in Hirigana/kanji and at the bottom it has the english name.
I’m looking to come up with a website name also. I really got inspired by Danny Choo to dedicate a site to Japanese Subculture and Otaku lifestyle…
Most trains in tokyo have the english translation bit. Some even have english announcer. But to be safe at least you need to know hiragana or know how the place you wanted to go sounds like.
The line I live near with (odakyu line), depending on the train, some trains have the screen that tells you whats the next station etc… but its safe to say that they always announce things up on the speaker.
Ok that’s definitely good to know, I appreciate the quick reply.
These other internet forums are a peice of junk when it comes to finding any relevant information. All I’m left with are cynical minded individuals who undermine others, and troll all over the place complaining about their time in Japan being shitty due to working at an Eikaiwa… cough Gaijinpot* cough
Coming here is a breath of fresh air to say the least.
Any Kansai SRK members know of any English speaking dermatology clinics (preferably in Kyoto, Osaka or Nara)? Or where to find such information?
Ok got question for those folks with japanese GF’s/Wives
Do japanese girls really cry thier ass out when they shagging like the pornos dictate? If so, anyone find out why this is? thanks!
I think they all have rape fetishes…
No doubt and thx for the info! And thank you for reminding me that I need to post the picture I took from SBO’09!
how is the test broken up? is it all Q&A or is there an actually speaking part?
No Buck Wild?! Awwwwwwwwwwww! I’m gonna go an check if they have party Internet Cafe rooms?!
Yeah this tread is pretty damn helpful at times.
Ahhh this question again LOL! Note: In all porn there is overacting. But I have been in a couple of situations where the girl would make noises like the ones you hear in the J-porns. Sometimes it’s cute. Sometimes it makes you wanna EX Stuff a pair champion socks in they mouf with the quickness!
Since there are 5 levels now, don’t just jump to 3 unless you are very confident in your abilities. The JLPT is divided into three sections: “Characters and Vocabulary” (100 points), “Listening Comprehension” (100 points), and “Reading Comprehension and Grammar” (200 points).
The new level 5 is the old level 4. The new 4 is the old level 3. The new level 3 was added to bridge the gap between the old levels 2 and 3, as there was a pronounced skill increase needed between these levels. The wiki article mentions that the (old) level 3 JLPT covered about 300 kanji and about 1500 words, while level 2 covered 1000 kanji and about 6000 words. Expect the new level 3 to fall somewhere in between these.
Since this change is new this year, there likely won’t be much information on it until after the summer testing in Japan.
Anyway, good luck. I’ll likely be testing for JLPT 4 in December myself. I use smart.fm to study Japanese, and it works fairly well.
ah thanks for the info… im considering taking the new level 3 or 2 this year then… but need to find good study material first…
Do a lot of people in Japan smoke weed? How is it looked at?
