*When I first picked up SF4 back in Vanilla days I started with Rose. I thought she was better than what people said she was, but she really wasn’t. As the game progressed into the haves (Chars with combo into Ultra, plus Akuma) and the have nots (those without combo into ultra) it became clear that Rose didn’t stack up. Slow AA game, mehtacular damage, no reversals, mediocre zoning game etc. However Luffy was making magic with her in the EU, winning against Ryan Hart who was one of the best Sagats back then. He was making magic with a character that was very lacking in toolset.
She got buffed in Super and he got even better because he actually had tools to work with. Same thing goes for AE and AE2013 version and now Ultra.
If he looked like a " very good version of standard Rose" it’s because he damn there wrote the book on how to make Rose work. *
I can’t agree. Last year’s was way more exciting. Rog and Infiltration, Laugh and Infiltration… hell every match with Infiltration was pretty good. Also Marvel was way more exciting too. I will say that this year had WAAAAAAY more people. I’d estimate 3-4x add much. My CONSERVATIVE estimate is 6000 people in the main hall alone.
It’s kinda funny how every year a different character always represents as EVO champion in SF IV. You have had Ryu, Seth, Fei Long, Akuma, Gen, Rose (probably missing a couple more here and there)… Say what you will, but it always keeps things varied and a mixed bag, and that is always appreciated in a game instead of “LOL TOP TIER WINS!”
And I don’t think this will increase the surge of Rose players online. I didn’t really notice ANY Gens last year after Xian won EVO.
also take into account there was an ign+niconico stream
so in total, evo had over 500k I believe (I didn’t see the viewcount peaks on NN or ign, but I’m just reiterating the total from hearsay)
pretty nuts
Gen use didn’t go up because he’s hard as fuck to use. Rose is pretty basic. As for tiers I’m pretty sure Gen and Rose are the only two up there that aren’t considered top 3-5 for their respective versions
