What kind of happ stick is it? I think the ultimate is the one that allows for mounting in metal or wood control panels. I’d stay away from them though. Happ made some poor decisions when designing them.
As for the height, it’s really a matter of preference. Most people mount them around 1/2"-5/8" below the surface of the wood. So if using 1/8" lexan and 3/4" MDF or particleboard then you’d want to rout a 3/8" deep recess for the joystick to get the 1/2" depth, or rout a 1/4" recess for the 5/8" depth.
You can eliminate routing alltogether by buying some 1/2" MDF just for the top. This will give you the 5/8" mounting height (1/2" MDF+1/8 Lexan). This is as thin as I’d go for a top though (the 1/2" MDF). Anything thinner might flex.
Just won a stick off ebay. It arrived and apparently the seller didn’t know what it was for, just sold it (won it for $5) as is. Come to find out, it was for the SNES. The case is hard plastic, rubber feet covering the screws, ultimate buttons (r/w/b), some type of ultimate joystick, and was made by some manufacturing place back in the day for the SNES. So I guess you can say it was ahead of its time. It would make a great mod, but I’ll just install comps in place of what it has, and leave it for the SNES and add it to my gaming collection. I might throw a pic up later on. Kinda light, but sturdy.
I bought one of those too! the seller told me it was for Playstation, I don’t even own an SNES. what was the seller’s name? I was kinda pissed, because it took him a month to get it to me.
this is more of a shout-out to paik but I am gonna be making the shagstick 3.0 this summer at some point, and it will likely blow shagstick 2.0 and many other sticks people have seen in the past out of the water…it is coming, and ideas I have…oh yes.
Yo KDX, what’s up man? I didn’t even know you posted here. Looking forward to seeing the new stick. Ideas, eh? Sounds interesting. I have ideas of my own but right now I’m finishing up a few sticks. The weather though is impeding my painting…
I haven’t heard from Tricky in a long time. Tell him I said, what’s up.
Hey, I got some of those SFAC pads, and I noticed that they are terrible with lag using adapters. I took em back and got xbox ones, I wouldn’t recommend using them with adapters.
so i am going to be working on my very first mass acording to the measurment information given here >>>http://www.darkravenwind.com/cdvision/box.htm, the one i’m going to be using is the Pro Stick Clone.
So say i get the body and everything done now i want to put a picture animation on the top board like http://www.massystems.com/SuperNova.html, only problem is i don’t know the first step to start. I have wallpaper pictures on my computer that i think would be perfect for my stick i just don’t know how i can transfer that on to my mass. Is it a special print that i’m using and i’m fitting it on my mass then protecting it with that plastic layer guard?
I hope somebody can enlighten me on the process thanks.
You can have kinko’s print it out for like $3 on 10pt glossy cardstock. After that, get some lexan at home depot. It’s plexiglass but shatter resistant, meaning it won’t crack or break when drilling. It’s actually a polycarbonate. Great stuff.
yeah right, so i just bring my saved image to “Kinko’s” and they will give me a print, for $3on 10pt glossy cardstock. Then go to Home Depot and ask them for “Lexan”, which is the plexiglass but shatter resistant.
it’s like $5 for a 11x14" piece. For your image, if using it photoshop, save it to a PDF. It’s their most printer friendly format. Also, with the level of the combined intelligence of the hd staff that can be measured on one hand, you’re better off finding the lexan by yourself. It’s usually by the lumber somewhere. Also, you can get it on ebay too. Just search for 1/8" polycarbonate or .090" polycarbonate.
so is it just the lexan and the screws really that hold the artwork in tightly? I seen some mass sticks were there is no screws holding in the lexan, how was that stuff done?

Screws aren’t really necessary for happ sticks but hold the lexan down better than just the buttons. It’s the buttons that hold the artwork in mostly. The screws are good for holding the edges down.
I about to order 2 competition joysticks from the happ website and switch them out with my 2 mas system arcade sticks. Now what is the differnce between the 8-way, 4-way, and 2-way. Also what is the differnce between the 1+ for $13.95 and the 25+ for $11.40. I want a joystick with a soft spring and not the hard one. which stick is better for a mas stick, Ultimate or compietion joystick. Thanks for the help
