The Official Custom Arcade Sticks Thread II: A New Era of Builders

From what I’ve seen from the pictures of the inside, the stick connector should be labeled on the board it connects to. You should have no problems clipping the stick connector off and wiring up your fanta, but you will likely have to use some wire to connect the ground to all of the switches.

Cthulhu boards

Just wanted to toss out a message and let everyone know that modchipman.com has the cthulhu boards back in stock, we’ll be sending out all the preorders this monday/tuesday. Thanks for being patient!

Thanks for the heads up!

question: does a PS2 arcade stick works on a ps3? or do I have to get one exclusive for ps3?

i’m pretty sure there’s a USB adapter you can get to use PS2 controllers on the PS3

You know, I just went thru all the soldering guides, and they really lack the info that I would find useful.

I’d like to see either a short video or a tutorial with pictures, exactly how to prepare, and then solder, to a microscopic contact on a typical controller PCB.

That would be so incredibly helpful to me, and I’m sure others.

also, can I take my completely screwed up tip and sharpen it up again on a bench grinder? Or is that a bad idea?

It just takes some practice kid. I did the same thing… looking for tuts and vids online, but nothing really detailed. Once I actually learned how to solder, I understood how easy it was and why those guides seemed so vague to me. The link to how to solder link listed on the front page helped me much. Good luck.

I’m sure there is a youtube video out there on soldering.

Just finished my HRAP3 up, thought I would show it off. The art is from Chris Wares second sketchbook compilation.

I hope someone here will be able to help me out. I just built my first stick. There is one issue that is bothering me. I have an LS-32-01 joystick. Are these joysticks supposed to move up and down along the shaft? There seems to be some play in the joystick in the up and down directions (perpendicular to the face of the joystick). It’s weird blocking down and back as the the joystick will move down and left but also will move (jump) along the shaft. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or do I need to tighten something up? I put a one inch hole in the acrylic for the joystick. Thanks for any help.

hmm… doesn’t sound normal. I never heard of that issue occurring before. You might want to double check to see if you tightened it correctly.

well basically all the joysticks do that because of the spring they have inside but its not that much of a trouble when you play…

Thank you guys for the response. When you say tighten correctly are you referring to the flat head screw that is on the bottom of the joystick shaft? If not, can you explain where I should be tightening down? The joystick mounting plate is very well secured to a piece of metal and I am not sure where else I can tighten things. Thanks again for your help on this. It’s greatly appreciated.

Forgive me if this sounds insulting, but I am being genuine. Have you left sufficient clearance underneath the stick for it to move properly? Because if the base is touching the stick shaft and pushing it up then it won’t move properly. Sounds like that would cause what you’re describing.

hello tried the woodworking thread but ive gotten no reply so i’ll try this one. Building my first stick and just looking for an opinion on the box. When putting the four sides together (this making it a rectangle, square, etc) should i use wood glue? or some other adhesive? Or do people usually go with screws for durability purposes which i can see why it just won’t look as pretty. Any help is appreciated!

Finished Scarborough Stick:

Text is off of the Scarborough Fair guns, yellow ball top for Invincible lolipop, red button for starting and getting aggressive, and green for selecting and choosing life.

So my Tekken 6 Special Edition is doing what it is suppose to do, the buttons are wearing off. Lasted a decent time, 9 months is more than most people get. I like it so I’m going to put a ring on it. . . I mean mod it.

The only thing I really need to know is where do I find the equipment to turn it into a wired controller. Any links to that equipment?

Gut it out and substitute the PCB inside with one of Toodles fine products and drill a hole through the casing for a usb to go inside

Why make it wired though? It’s possible to replace the stock buttons with Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons.

I just started modifying my te stick today. this is my first customization, so i am doing this on the fly. i decided to try to teach myself how to spraypaint and i tried to do a marble effect. i also am waiting on seimitsu buttons. the one’s that you can put lights in because i am getting a local dude to add leds to my buttons and ball top. then i purchased a plexi cover, etched with bisons elite group “the Dolls” ( i haven’t recieved pictures yet). so, here is what i got so far.

anyone know where I can get prebuilt custom arcade sticks?
