Is using cold soder on a controller ok?
Also is there any where i can get a diogram of how to hack a xbox contorller? I got the small one and I’m just wondering thanks.
Holy shit!! thanks for the tip man
Hey guys, I live in the US and I am having a lot of trouble finding the drill bits I need (30mm and 24mm for japanese buttons) I have found one store that carries both of those sizes but the bits are honkin auger type bits and are like $20+ each, I’m looking for just like a regular wood spade bit. Do any of you know where I could find a store in the US or an online seller that carries those sizes? I cant even find an online seller that carries 30mm and 24mm bits.
Jesus, that IS a bit of an oddity as drill bits go! I can’t find a bloody thing, even in Canada where metric bits are the standard. I can’t even find them at Lee Valley…ffs! Okay, this is annoying, I’ll keep looking and let you know if I can find them.
Guys, I don’t have internet connection at home anymore so a few quick questions since I can’t read the entire thread:
I’m working on my first stick. I don’t have any questions about wiring, but I have no experience with woodworking.
-
What are affordable good types of wood for it?
-
Should I get some type of power saw to cut my own pieces, or should I bring a diagram to home depot or something so they can cut it for me?
-
Once the box is attached, how do I attach the art to it? Do I place the paper on top and screw it down with lexan or something?
-
Is that woodglue with the Gorllia (is it even called “gorilla glue”?) any good?
Sorry about the basic ass questions but I only have experience with electronics, I think I got a D in woodshop in 8th grade. Thanks! :karate:
1-3/16" works for 30mm, 15/16" works for 24mm.

I prefer MDF, plywood works too. Some people use pine, but I much prefer the straightness of MDF.
-
Either will work, but bring your own ruler/tape measure to confirm the dimensions. You don’t want to waste a trip only to find out that the pieces are cut to the wrong size.
-
Many variations on this procedure. The one you mentioned will work.

Gorilla Glue is very, very strong. The wood will almost always break before the glue joint if glued correctly. You will need clamps, though, because it expands as it cures.
i’m making a stick for dreamcast and i’m using the orginial sega controller. how do i solder the shoulder buttons if they’re pressure sensitive? also i have no idea how to solder to the sega controller but i’ve read on up on the madcatz, are they any similar?
IIRC, you solder to two of the 3 pins of the analog device. Not 100%, though.
i still dont get how to solder to the original dc pad. uhm…http://www.mameworld.net/pc2jamma/images/dcjoy.gif
the website says that i have to scrape away the board until i see copper. i did that on the start button to test it out and did indeed find copper. is that where i solder the button too?
edit: here’s the link. look at the diagram towards the end.

Picture doesn’t work.
IIRC, you scrape at the black stuff covering the spirals underneath each button until it’s all gone and copper is revealed. Then you solder to that, yeah.
With the mention of analog input…how well do arcade sticks usually play in Smash Bros games? My search-fu really hasn’t turned up much except that most but not all SSB players prefer the pad. I want to rig my stick for gamecube/wii, but I’m wondering if it’s worth doing.
Meh this is my first attemp at making a “good stick”

I have been looking all over and still unsure on how to do this but does anyone know how to wire the analog thumbstick from a dreamcast controller to work with a arcade joystick I made a dremacast arcade machine and know how to wire the reguar buttons and D-pad and I see I need to solder 1 wire to hed5 and hed6 for the L+R triggers and was wondering could I do the same with the analog or is their a special method I can do any regular buttons a D-pad’s on any console but just getting intot he analog conversion becuase I would like to have it for my new project and not limited down to D-pad games only.
while I am here might as well post this link to pinout older console controls in case anyone wanted to make a arcade controller for their classic console.

why would u wanna do that?? is it becoz u wanna play non-fighting games w/ your stick???
anyway I do not think u can do that, the analog stick transmits 360 degree input, whereas there are not any types of sticks/levers out there that can translate that data
no one like my stick =s
Question. which is the easiest xbox controller to hack, the smaller xbox controller the big one or a mad catz one. Also can any one give me a link or help me figure out jhow I would hack the pcb. thanks
You won’t be able to use an arcade stick for 360…that said, what you can do is just replace the knob on the analog stick, and mount the whole assembly on your joystick board as a separate stick. It would likely end up looking ugly as sin, though.
