The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

Hi, Toodles

I had sent you two emails with the first one on 30 April and the 2nd one a few minutes ago. If I am not mistaken, my first email didn’t reach you as I first expected. Please be kind to look at these emails and get back to me at your earliest convenience.

P.S. The email I sent originated from jonyu@rogers.com and akfii@hotmail.com.
P.P.S The emails were sent to marcus@marcuspost.com

Thanks

Nope, at least not as-is. You could try to rig something up using an OR gate, but there’s no way I could support it. Drill another hole or two for the best results.

Thread and PM’s have been done,; going through all of the emails is next.

Toodles,

I have a question about GC cables. I modded my 360 TE fightsticks with MC’s and they has been working great. I have run into a situation with the GC, where it will not allow me to hook up two extensions.

I have one cable out of the stick that attaches to an extension that is attached to the Wii. Everything works fine like this.

When I introduce another extension to the mix, the signal goes dead. I do get the green light on the home button, but other than that it does not work.

I have swapped out extension to check and make sure they are working properly. They are all the same make and were purchased at the same time.

Do you have any ideas on this?

I’m sure I can help, but I don’t really understand the symptoms you’re describing. I need a lot of detail about what has been done, because there’s a whole ton of different ways these mods can go. You mentioned one GC cable coming out of the stick, which is good, but you didnt mention anything about how the USB stuff is working (Imp, DPDT, two USB cables, whatever), and no information about the other extension cable; what system is it for, how it is connected, etc etc.

Give me more detail so I can understand what all has been done, and I’m sure I can figure it out, but there’s not enough there for me yet. Be as descriptive as possible, preferably with inside photos.

As I said in an earlier post, HUGE thanks and credit go out to RoboKitrit for his idea/design.

I followed the guide found at this link to make the cables.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=178604&highlight=RJ45

All cables aftermarket and had different color coding. The GC cables were almost the same, but the with was grey on my cables. The PSX cables were crazy different.

I added the USB as well for possible convenience in the future. It is not connected to anything at this point.

I have the 4 points of the IMP going to (1,5,6,8) and the 4 points of the MC (2,3,4,7) all going to their respective spots in the RJ45 cable.

Everything works flawless thanks to Bomberman, Faux123, Maxx Mana and of course… you. This is the only issue I am having.

I think it has to do with the cable being crossed over in the extension. I have a multimeter, How would I use it to check for the proper wires?

I’m still a bit fuzzy on the problem though. You have a Gamecube cable you crimped to an RJ-45 end, and you can use it on that stick and everything works. If you use a GC extension cable so you can play a few feet further away, everything still works. But when you have it go Wii-extension cable-extension cable-Gamecube cable-TE stick, it doesn’t work? Is that right?

can you get the Imp kit: $9 on LL as well?

Correct. I have three cables total in this mix. One I made with an RJ45 end, and two other extensions connected to that cable. The 6ft limit these cables seem to have is a PITA.

I have a multimeter, how would I check for the proper wires?

Thanks Toodles… I really appreciate it. I like to play TvC, but my neck is killing me sitting on the floor with only two cables.

They will have it soon, but not yet.

Yikes. The board is working as it should, but there’s not much I can do when it works by itself, but doesn’t work through two extension cords. If you’re feeling brave, the only idea I can come up with would be solder a resistor, best would probably be a 5k ohm, between somewhere in the F column and wherever the voltage from the Imp comes in. If that doesn’t do it, then I dont think there is anything else than can.

Is it possible for me to take my RJ45 plug off and test the wires with a multi meter? If so, how would I use the meter?

My thought is that it is getting signal, because the green light is working. Could it possibly be that the command line is switched in transfer?

Thanks Toodles!

If I understand your first post correctly, the stick works fine when either one of the extension cables is used, and only failed when both are used. If that is true, then you’ve already shown that both of the extension cables are wired correctly.

I connected my one GC extension that I put the RJ45 cable on into the Wii. Then I plugged the RJ45 end into a RJ45 extension. I then plugged a 50ft RJ45 cable into the RJ45 extension and the other end into the Fightstick.

This works. So, I just ordered another set of GC extensions. Hopefully these new cables will work.

Update: It was the cheap cables.

Hi toodles,

I followed the instructions for paypal, but I haven’t gotten an email by paypal for the tracking number. Please PM me back if I did anything wrong.

Thanks

I don’t think Toodles has mailed them out yet to provide a tracking number.

I can’t wait to get my shipment, hopefully i can do a successful dual mod

ModChipMan.com still doesn’t have any mc boards?

All of the orders that came in by midnight Saturday will be going out in today’s mail and should receive a delivery confirmation number later today. Those from Sunday and today should receive one late tonight or tomorrow.

I have been reading this post as well as Bomberman’s guide on doing the dual mod and some stuff is not clicking for me hoping I can get some answers instead of directions to other posts
My setup will be as follows
SFIV TE Stick 360 Version
MC Cthulhu Board (Wanted PS3/PS2/PS1, Xbox 360 & Gamecube/Wii Support)
Imp Board
PS3 as Primary PCB

Question #1
Based on Bomberman’s post is there more clarification on why he stated
"You can and should purchase the unassembled version of either Cthulhu board, since I do not recommend using the USB jack or screw-down terminals that come on the preassembled boards" ???
I did some soldering when I installed a modchip on my PS1 way back but I wanted to know if the Assembled kit can be ordered without the usb jack if not needed and y is it there?

**Question #2 **
Being for the MC Cthulhu option there is the multiple wires coming out of the box or the RJ-45 mod which Toodles said was intermediate/Advanced what other options are available I wouldn’t like to cut up the outside of the box. Maybe a usb>Gamecube/Wii Converter

Question#3
Would a Pre-Assembled to Imp Board (Which I know would require soldering) be the easiest option?
Or just an MC Kit to Imp Board be easier? Sorry Bomberman statement thru me for a loop

  1. The assembled boards come with USB jacks. It’s there because it’s the easiest way to connect a USB cable for a PS3 stick.
  2. There is no USB->GC converter. You can either have multiple cords coming out of the case, or rig up a way to connect different cords.
  3. The wiring and all for a dual mod is the same either way; either way will work just fine. You might want to read my answer to ‘ibeatu’ in this post:
