The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

my apologies for posting so late - the board i ordered came within like, 3 days of ordering. i should be able to finish the stick within the next few days, and perhaps ill post pics

been there done that and still don’t understand those things.
that’s why i asked.

Hey Toodles, I think I know the answer to this, but want to make sure before buying an Imp (from an esteemed reseller).

I have a cthulu+piggyback 360. Rather than a DPDT switch, I ran all six wires to a 6 pin minidin connector with 2 seperate minidin->USB connectors that only wired what each system needed.

As you can see in this pic, all 6 wires go to a screw terminal right now. There’s nothing that would prevent me from just unscrewing the wires from the terminal and soldering them into an Imp, correct?

Aha, I recognise that stick!

Crackbone, your stick was the inspiration for the internal layout of my own Norris stick, I recently added an Imp too instead of a DPDT switch.

All you need to do is wire the USB cable to the USB connector points on the end of the Imp, then connect your 6 wires to the 6 points (VCC, GND, D1+, D1-, D2+, D2-) on the side of the Imp.

If I remember tonight I’ll take a photo of my finished wiring, I left the Imp wiring visible so you should be able to see quite clearly how it connects up.

Here you go:

I used some plug-in connectors for the two sets of usb data wires (green & white) so I can change the default board just by swapping them around.
The yellow wire at the bottom is the control wire from the Imp, it simply runs from the Guide point on the Imp to the screw terminal for the guide button on the Cthulhu.
Hope this helps.

4 more days till the shop is open!!

Hopefully i can put my order in for 2 MC’s and 2 IMPs soon

Need some help here. I have a late version MS pad with common ground. However, the triggers do not use the same CG, they have their own. I will be using a PS3 cthulhu alongside this. I want to be able to use the triggers on the 360 pad. How do I go about connecting them to the Cthulhu.

Now remember, these triggers work as is. No need for resistors to make them work. Well, at least when the pad is the only one being used. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know if this question has been posted already. I have a Madcatz TE stick for Xbox 360. Can I use the Cthulhu board (PC/PS3)
to make the TE stick compatible to PS3 also?

Yes. I am trying to do this right now. I’m trying to figure out which pinout is the xbox guide button. I think it might be marked as XGUILD on my TE PCB.

all the online retailers seem to be out of the completed board…

is it possible to get a guide connecting the IMP and CTHULU to a Microsoft 360 pad?

Hello Toodles, im planing to purchase a MC Cthulhu board.

I have a problem whit my case, they have drilled only one holle for a cord, i like to put in the board all the cables for all the consoles suported.

The most practical thing in my case is drill another holes, but i dont have any type of tools for this work, and i have zero skills also…

Im just thinking to conect the buttons and joystick to a custom cable whit a DB15 conector.

Conect the cable to a project box whit the Cthulhu Board

4 Cables will exit from the Project box to the consoles.

With this idea do you think i have a input lag or something? Do you think is a good solution for my problem?

My english is not very good i dont know if i explain good my idea, i will post a picture.

Thanks!

Edit:

I forgot to mention one thing…

My case doesnt have the 3 dedicated buttons (select, start, home) only have start and select, its possible to activate the home button when i press start+select whit any type of modification?

I’m really new to sticks. I don’t know how much of this has been answered before but im looking to buy TE stick for a 360. How would I go about modding it to work on a PS3 and what would I need to buy? Is there some FAQ to follow? Does modding the stick increase response time?

From Lizard Lick Amusements: -Ability to make the Start and Select buttons activate the PS3 in game menu, so you have one less button to install in your stick. (this is for the PC/PS3 version)

On a similar note, I want to install one of these in my dreamcast ASCII stick, it’s a six button with start (like a dreamcast controller: abcxyz start). I have no select button to wire start+select for home, can I wire another button + select? like HP+Select?

Yeah, it does. Like I said I figured it would be easy, but I wanted to make sure. I’m glad I could help you build yours - I’m jealous because A) you wiring is a hell of a lot better and B) You got a black curly maple that I wanted!

Cthulhu - imp -diagram

Hello modding nation, both noob and veteran alike. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has put in so much information on the threads. I’ve done some soldering work on 360 controllers but am by no means an expert. I have a 360 TE stick coming, eventually, and I want to dual mod it. I was wondering if someone can put a diagram or pictures, hopefully both(please), of the 360 TE pcb, a cthulhu board, and imp board all wired together so I can have a clue of what I’m doing. Thank you in advance for anybody who wants to do this. I greatly appreciate it.

There’s a thread by Bomberman a few threads down that’ll have all the information you need regarding dual modding.

It’s relating to the MC SE stick, but everyone is saying they are the same PCB so it’ll work for the TE as well.

I’m about to do the same mod, I’m just waiting for toodle’s shop to open so i can order me some cthulhu’s and imps

I’m having an odd issue, and I’m hoping somebody has experienced it too and can tell me what I’ve done wrong.

I’ve installed an Imp and Cthulhu board into my SE stick, and the joystick and all the buttons work perfectly. However, I’ve found that I can no longer use my headset microphone. All that comes out is a loud buzzing sound. I can still hear just fine, but can’t use the mic. I’ve tried using other controllers, and the mic works fine there, so it doesn’t seem to be a broken headset.

I don’t think I’ve messed with the headset port at all, and I can’t see anything I’ve messed up. Any suggestions and advice are welcome. Thanks!

Mixah did a ton of converter testing and sent me the results; these have been added to the first post in the MC Cthulhu section. Any results, good or bad, with other converters are always appreciated.

My actual finals tests are done; I’ve got two programming projects that will keep me busy until late Friday. I’ll try to answer some of the questions here when I need a break. Shop is still closed until the 15th.

Has there been any testing done for the MC Cthulhu’s PSX cable with Laugh’s JAMMA converter? I’ve been lax in fixing my supergun and setting this up myself to test, but I’m curious if anyone already knows or results for this were already posed somewhere.

Thanks a ton for the existing converter compatibility testing data and for the product itself!

Hi Toodles,

I’m looking forward to talk to you soon. I would appreciate it if you will let me know how we will go about discussing it. By email, MSN messenger, and what will be a good time for you on the 15th or soon after.

Regards,
Jonathan
