Running into a strange issue with my left and right with my ChimpSMD. I bought an Arduino Uno for Plagman’s Asynchronous SOCD mod (http://plagman.net/stuff/cthulhu_asynchronous_socd_mod/HOWTO.txt) and whenever I hook the Uno board to the chimpsmd, it is sending a constant button press. It is strange to me because the select button works fine, which also goes through the Uno. I can see my buttons are working and the Uno is functioning properly because if I press both, the SOCD that is currently active according to the Uno firmware works, but it won’t sit in neutral.
I currently have up and down going through toodle’s SOCD board and that is operating fine. None of my wires related to left / right are touching anything extra and I have them hot glued and insulated. Is there a specific way that the directional buttons must be grounded to the chimp? Played around with different wirings for a while and couldn’t get it to work properly through the Uno.
@xXavierx
See how your set up works without the Uno. I am thinking it is the Uno that is at fault and not your wiring.
Toodles SOCD board will handle all the directions fine on its own.
@darksakul yeah, my last resort is to just ditch the Uno. I’m trying as much as I can before I reach that point. I really like the asynchronous socd mod because I play charge characters in sf4.
I have a stick with a PS1/PS2 board inside. It’s basically a PS1 controller cracked open, wired into a stick, and the cord is still intact. I use to plug a USB adapter into it to play GGPO on my computer back in the day. I tried that on the PS3 and no such luck… Will this Cthulu board make using this stick possible with the PS3?
Yes, if you use MCCthulhu you can get it working on lots of oldgen consoles (SNES,NES,Dreamcast,Saturn,Gamecube…) and lagless PS3/PC support. Check MCCthulhu + RJ45 tutorial too unleash the power
I was about to type a long wordy question and then I re-read the PDF that comes with the Cthulhu and figured it out myself. I guess the only question I have now is if anyone knows when it will be available on Focus Attack again so I don’t have to order it and the common ground daisy chain separately?
Edit: Just noticed Toodles is selling them on his site too. All goes well I’m getting one on Friday. I’m pretty stoked as this is giving me a reason to put my soldering iron to use finally.
Got my board in today and I am stoked to try and get everything put together, but I hit a snag. When I plug the board straight into my computer it doesn’t register as “Cthulhu Multiconsole Controller” it just says “4 axis 13 button gamepad with hat switch.” (I unplugged the cable and that entry went away, so I know it is the Chtulhu). Is this a serious problem?
In the end I don’t intend to use this for PC much, but rather going the RJ45 route for PS2 and DC.
or instead of going into a game try the game pad device proprieties, Its Devices and Printers in the control panel
Try that first before going into a game.
I hooked up my joystick instead of a button and every thing seems to work fine. I haven’t loaded the most recent firmware. Could that be why? I kinda assumed that it would have been loaded before being sent out.
No, as far as I know all the boards are shipped out with the default firmware. You will need to update it yourself. But I’m not sure if that is what’s causing your device recognition anomaly…
Had a chance to plug it in on a different computer this morning and it showed up correctly. It’s probably a problem with my computer, so I am not super worried about it, but I will try as you listed Darksakul.
(And also install the firmware before I start soldering the rj45 terminals.)
