My bad; I edited that post to show I was thinking about on the UPCB. its a pie in the sky idea, but it could be done I think…on the UPCB. The Cthulhu does not have the capability because there is no 4066n chip.
Big props Toodles. Just built my first stick and even though the project as a whole was very challenging, the wiring was very easy with your board and the screw down terminals. In fact, it was the idea of not having to solder that made me say, “let’s go for it.” Everything worked right the first time. Plug and play as you can get.
cthulhu / madcatz 360, i was if there was a diagram on how to piggyback these two boards
"the madcatz controller on page 13 of this thread"
Thanks for the replies, I just posted in that other thread hoping to get an answer
Quick question for anyone here who may know, while slightly off subject …
Anyone know if first party Microsoft brand wired controllers are “common ground” controllers?
Hey Toodles, could you give me the specs on the diodes you’re using for the MC Cthulhu?
I have some lying around that might fit the bill nicely. =D
The kits and upgrades are coming with diodes; two 5817 diodes and two 4148’s. The 5817’s are kinda a bitch to get through the holes, but they have a very very low voltage drop, so are perfect for use with the PSX cables.
Thanks for the help earlier! Can’t wait to receive my MC Cthulhu board in the mail!
Speaking of which, why the “dead but dreaming” Cthulhu as a name?
That’s why
Is there any chance you would have dpdt switches available to purchase with the cthulu kits (for 360/ps3 common usb)?
I’m finally going to give this board a shot. I built my own stick last fall with a ps1 pcb but now since SF4 is coming out and I want(ed) a TE stick but can’t seem to find one any where and don’t really want to drop $150+ on it, I figured I would use the rest of the wood from my first stick and build a new one with the Cthulhu. It seems simple enough.
Hey Toodles did you get in the extension cables yet?
No cables yet, but it was just sent Monday.
Even though the cables haven’t arrived, there is something that may delay the assemblies; diodes. The 5817 diodes I had on hand were all sent out with upgrade chips and bare kits earlier in the week. The replacements were ordered last night from Digikey; if I’m lucky they’ll arrive Saturday, but may not show up until Monday. I can get the boards put together easy enough in the mean time, and adding cables to them is fairly straightforward quick as is adding the final diodes, so we may be looking at the ordered boards with cables being mailed Monday night.
What are the holes/orientations for the diodes? Sorry if this was already answered.
Sounds perfectly reasonable.
Good to know! Not in any rush anyways, considering my case is going to take a couple weeks to get built!
The diode orientation is marked on the board itself. You’ll see a band in the picture, and the band on the diode should match. The one with the ‘USB Only’ jumper on it doesn’t show the band, but it is oriented the same as the diode just beside it (#3 I think).
If in doubt, just take a peek at the board. You’ll see a little cluster of traces in the middle of the diodes connecting them all together. The band on the diode should be on the end closest to that cluster.
Oh, my bad. I totally didn’t see those. And the bigger, beefier diodes are placed in conjunction with the row where the PSX cable will be installed, correct?
Sorry for all the questions.
Are the availability of Cthulhu’s going to go down once we all get our TE sticks?
Wondering if I should jump on a soldered kit or not.
Correct. The only one you need to be worried about is the PSX VCC line; it should go in the row matching the big black diode. The rest go in their specific column, but can go in any row that is easy; it doesn’t matter. Except for the round VCC holes, all of the holes in a column are connected together.
??? As long as people keep buying them, I’ll keep making them.
Toodles, I got my package with the MC Cthulhus. Packaging is really nice and the shipping was fast. Am I missing something obvious about instructions specific for the MC Cthulhu? The included printed instructions are for the PS3/PC Cthulhu and so is the guide on Instructables. Need the info as to where the additional parts go and wiring info for PSX/GC/XBOX. Thanks.
