The official Cthulhu and ChImp thread - Try our new Dreamcast flavor!

And any chance of getting them posted to the UK? :lovin:

For future reference, when using google to find things on shoryuken, preface your search with this:

ā€œsite:shoryuken.comā€ and you’ll have much better results.

An imp is essentially a double pole double throw (dpdt) switch contained in a circuit board.

To make a shit analogy, imagine the USB cable is a railroad. The DPDT switch is the part in the railroad where you can direct the train (data, D+/D-) down path A or path B, which would be your Xbox controller and PS3 cthulhu. The convenience of the Imp board is that you don’t have to cut holes in your stick to accomodate a DPDT switch, as it performs the same function, only electronically.

Yeah I’ve tried mine on a dozen fat and slim, modded and unmodded PS2’s using USA and JPN discs, all of them have this reconnect issue with my cthulhu, Just wondering if you wouldnt mind taking the hit and updating your one from April to 1.3 and see if it aqcuires this quirky behavior?

^ I’m also having PS2 support issues with my MC Cthulhu.

I put in SFAC into my PS2, a NTSC U - unmodded, and I could browse the start up Browser/System Settings no problem.

Then I booted up SFAC, and the stick was unresponsive. Had to disconnect then reconnect the controller plug.

It worked and I chose 3S, while in the 3S menu the stick was unresponsive again, had to disconnect/reconnect it for it to work.

I have to dis/re everytime I switch games.

Weird, I have to disconnect/reconnect on the start up page as well for the stick to work. And once a game loads up, the same thing again.
On the other hand, mine is a PAL PS2 with a mod chip.
Same thing with melty blood: actress again, the stick becomes unresponsive again in the menu…

Anytime the PS2 ā€˜reboots’ (loading international games, modchip, free mcboot) it seems the cthulhu needs to be unplugged. What could be causing this?

Kaz have you tried updating the MC Cthulhu’s firmware yet? Toodles released a new revision a few days ago. It might not solve the problem, but it’s a good idea regardless.

I’ve downloaded the firmware, I’ll install it and give it a go when I wake up in a few hours.

please let us know how it goes. i’ve had the same problem as well.

i’ve had my mc cthulhu installed by someone else, what exactly is the procedure to update the firmware?

You just have to plug your stick with the Start and Select buttons held down and run the program.
Takes just a few seconds to be done.
I don’t know about Kazujiro, but the update didn’t solve this problem with my board after I updated it.

^ Just updated the firmware and there was no change, unfortunately.

For the time being, it’s just a minor annoyance as I can reconnect from the RJ45 plug on my stick rather than getting up to the PS2 and doing it from there.

Fixes attempted:

Updated firmware
Disconnected Xbox360 controller
Disconnected Imp
Rewired all relevant connections, including Cthulhu USB to Imp.

I’m still searching for a second PS1 cable I can use to test that out.

This is a known issue with the PSX connectivity. Toodles is supposed to be looking into it…

Just got a MC cthulhu from lizard lick today. I installed it into a 360 TE stick and I"m having troubles on PS3. First of all, the 4P button(L1/LB) only reacts every couple of seconds or without pressing it. Second, I don’t seem to have a start button circuit on the board. according to the pinout diagram it should be bottom left, but it makes the controller unresponsive instead as though I had 2 grounds set.

Or could it be that the vcc line is in that spot. It acts as though I hit start when i plug controller in, and then becomes unresponsive .

I know there’s a lot here I need to comment on, and I will as soon as I have half a moment to do so. I just wanted to drop a line that Im not dead.
I had an idea of what may be happening with the PSX problems, and made a quick change that may help. If anyone is brave enough to beta a totally UNTESTED .hex, please do so: http://www.marcuspost.com/downloads/cthulhu/cthulhu.1.4b.hex
(use the bootloader from one of the firmware zip’s I’ve posted previously.) Like I said, untested; my ps2 isn’t hooked up at the moment.

Hi Toodles! when are you going to have MC cthulhu non-assambled kits to sell? thanks

I tried it with Midway Arcade Treasures and it’s still having the same problem. PSX worked fine, it was the PS2 games that were giving me issues.

Looks like the answer for you (and me, unfortunately) is ā€œnever againā€ according to a post a few pages back.

now this is weird

i have a dual modded TE stick that i thought had a problem: when i plug it in to my pc, the xbox mode doesn’t work.

i have been lead to thinking that it was something with the soldering.

But a couple of days ago, a friend of mine plugged in his original 360 TE stick (not modded) into my PC, and same thing happened. the stick doesn’t get recognized.

What could be the problem guys?

Doesn’t the TE have a problem with some USB hosts?
