I would like to preorder a PCB but I wouldn’t mind someone in the PA area to mod my RAP so that I can use a 360, PSX, and PS3 to work on the same stick. Shame I cannot solder worth a damn.

A few questions about your forthcoming multi-console cthulhu board:

  1. PS3 cable is easy because there is a USB port on the board but,
    how would you add a PS2 cable or GC cable to the Cthulhu board?
    Would it be possible to use the USB cable to plug into the PS2? That
    way I would only have one cable for PS2/PS3 play.

  2. If I could wire up the Cthulhu to a PS2 cable, would I be able to
    use my adapters for PS3/GC play without lag?

Just trying to find a one cord solution so the setup will be as elegant
as possible. I also understand you may not be able to answer these
questions yet. I’m just really excited for Cthulhu multi-console!

Looks at the pictures next to where the USB cable is. There are three roles of (I think) 7 columns of points; the rows are labelled 1-3, and the columns are G for ground, A-E, and V for voltage. Cables for the different systems would be soldered in there. When console X gets added, I’ll post up that wire X, Y, and Z need to be connected to column , say, A, B, and C. They will have to be soldered to the board, but I’ll be working with Chad to figure out how we can offer assembled boards with different cords already soldered in.

Nope. There’s no way I can make that happen; its all based on the PS2 games themselves, and I know of no fighters that accept USB input on a PS2.

#1 I can’t promise anything about whether your adapters lag. I can’t only promise that the cords connected to the real consoles they’re meant for don’t lag. #2 I will be working on getting the PSX support working on converters, but I can’t promise anything yet. When I start releasing multiconsole boards, I will be very clear about the converter support.

The first consoles to the be added will be PSX, Xbox, and GC. My plan is to get those added, and then replace the PCB in my Namco with a MC Cthulhu, and solder a Xbox, PSX, and GC cord (yes, CORD, as in one. One cord, with three ends; this one came out of an old shitty Pelican or Nuby "Universal’ stick) and use a Xbox->USB adapter for connecting to PS3 or PC. The Xbox->USB adapters have no electronics in them, they just change the shape of the plug, so there will be no lag with those.

But that’s just my plan.

I will be following, step by step, your plan. (except without the technical know how and what not) :wgrin:

I know that the 360 is near impossible to get working. Have you looked into what it would take to get a license from Microsoft?

Probably a shed load of money and growth from a sole trader to a successfull corporation, even then i doubt microsoft would give out a license to a product that is niche in the extreme and has no potential to turn a profit under mass production, hacking their security is probably the only way a 360 homebrew pcb will ever exist.

Man reading this thread is making me drool… I have a modded PS2, and a Wii, so being able to use a finely tuned board such as this one on those systems would be a dream. Definitely following…

Just an update on Cthulhu performance. I was able to sit down for a couple of hours and play HD Remix last night and test the Cthulhu out. The PS3 picks up the controller right away and it performs perfectly. I didn’t notice any lag or dropped inputs. DPs, fireballs, flash kicks, etc, all came out. Can’t wait for the multiconsole version. I will be buying a handful more of boards to add to all my sticks. Cheers, Toodles.

I had a get together last night, so I was able to test out the Cthulhu and UPCB both on SF:HDR, with great results from both. :woot:

Well, I think I have the bootloader done. Im going to work on the UPCB PSX code to see whether or not I can get converters going.

Converters? More details please. I guess we can really shutdown that padhacking thread now.

Hey Toodles, had a tech related question. Wired up a 360 to piggyback on the UPCB, and it works like a charm. However, I’ve noticed some odd behaviors that I was hoping you might be able to help me isolate/troubleshoot.

  1. On rare occasions (once a day, maybe), I’ll just lose the connection to my 360 while playing. Unplugging and plugging the cord back in immediately fixes the problem.

  2. When I turn off the 360 and leave the controller plugged in, the next time I turn the 360 on, it’s common for the controller to not register. Again, unplugging/plugging back in seems to fix this.

Neither are huge, but I don’t know where to start to try fixing them. Cthulu, Madcatz Arcade piggybacked, and a ASCII optical joystick, if it’s any help.

what would be the difference between a cthulhu multiconsole and a upcb? is the cthulhu not “update-able” for future consoles? thanks

I’m new to the joystick modding scene but am interested in purchasing a Cthulu board (pre-assembled) to incorporate into a custom joystick project.

My question is what would be the easiest way to mount a Cthulu board to a metal panel? Also where would I purchase the necessary cords to enable the Cthulu to hook up to PC.

Last question is, does the Cthulu board come with all the necessary wires? If not what are ALL the necessary wires? (assuming the buttons are quick disconnects BTW)

I’d really like ot know so I can get started :smiley:
