Actually, I’m kinda wondering if its a text string problem. Can you try it with 1K and 1P shorted to ground on the PS3 and PC? (It should show up as a VSHG; that’s to be expected).
Are you familiar with Cygwin at all, or comfortable on the command line?
EDIT: Also, when its plugged in by itself with nothing shorted, click with your mouse towards the top of the empty white area that lists your game controllers to see if it highlights; Im wondering if it’s showing up with an empty string (all whitespace) so it looks like nothing is there.
EDIT: ^^ trying this now
EDIT2: When I tried that Windows made no ‘device detected’ sound, there was nothing in the system tray to indicate a detected device, and nothing is selectable in game controllers at the top.
I shorted 1K 1P and GND and plugged it into the PC but it wasn’t detected. I plugged it into the PS3 and tried to press other buttons but it wasn’t recognized.
I’m familiar with some command-line. bash (which I think would be useful for cygwin) I’m not so familiar with, but knowing ksh and Google usually gets me by on bash. I used cygwin a decade ago when I was compiling MUDs but I use ksh every day.
There’s nothing complicated needed, I just wanted to make sure your eyes didnt glaze over at the idea of a command line
You can grab the tool for changing the USB string here: http://www.marcuspost.com/downloads/cthulhu/cthulhu_eepromwrite.zip
The executable in it was compiled under cygwin, so you may need to grab a cygwin1.dll from somewhere to run it if you dont have cygwin installed. The source file is included, so maybe it’d be easier to just compile and run it on a linux box; it uses libusb, so remember the ‘-lusb’ when compiling with gcc. (I think just ‘gcc -o cstring cstring.c -lusb’ will do it)
Either way, short Right to ground, plug it in, and run. Use quotes around a short string as the only argument, i.e.: ./cstring “My MC Cthulhu”
Although I don’t actually think it will help or not, you do have the option of reflashing the firmware. The executable to do that is Windows only Im afraid. You can download it here: http://www.marcuspost.com/downloads/cthulhu/MCCthulhu11.zip
Well, I decided to order an assembled Cthullu from Gamingnow.net. Hopefully it will be here in less than 2 weeks and hopefully I can mod my Virtua Stick High Grade so that the 3 button problem is fixed. Please be patient if I ask a lot of questions in 2 weeks. Obviously I 'll try to figure it out first on the threads. I’ve been hovering around here and thinking about buying it for 2 months now.
Thanks for the help Toodles, but I think I’m screwed. Shorting Right to GND and plugging it in produces no ‘device detected’ notification from Windows. I can run that string utility like this, but I’m not sure if it’s working: I don’t see errors but when I un-short Right to GND afterward and plug it in it’s still not detected as any device (no ‘ding’, no system tray notification, nada). I’ve tried flashing with nothing shorted, with right shorted to GND, and with start + selelect shorted to GND. After I run it, unplug, un-short, then plug it in again, Windows still can’t find it.
I’ll go ahead and order another cthulhu from you and keep this one around for spare parts. If you want me to though I can send this one back so you can take a look at it and troubleshoot for research’s sake if you’re interested; if the issue is easily fixed I could even pay for the shipping to have it sent back if you don’t have any use for it. I’m interested in the solution, but the bottom line is I need to get another working PCB before the next tournament comes this week.
EDIT: I forgot to mention if you have any other troubleshooting steps you want me to try I can still give those a shot, too. I just placed an order with Nareg for another Cthulhu so I’m not sweating it if this one is boned.
Thanks again for all the help and for these kickass boards, even if we fuck them up from time to time :razzy: This PCB may be having issues at this moment but the other one I bought for my brother’s stick has been serving us great for tournaments on the PS3. You’re the man
If i buy the Seimitsu LS-56 joystick the one without the PCB would it be easy to hook up the LS-56 to Cthulhu board? or would it be easier to hook up the LS-56-01 the one with PCB + Wiring harness?
i ordered from MODCHIPMAN.com … on 05/14/2009 and im still waiting for them to get a shipment … if i would of known i would of just ordered it from you toodles
I don’t like it. Did you buy the board assembled or unassembled?
The 5 pin wiring harness would be easier. If you went with the four separate microswitch version, you’d have to daisy chain the grounds together and then screw it into the Cthulhu. But either can work, but with the 5 wire harness its just a lot less hassle.
hey toodles, i got a question for u. 1 out of like 20 times i do focus attack in training mode, i realized it releases it self. what i see on the input display is
(MK+MP)
(MK)
(shown on input display)
and my focus attack would release itself almost instantly, sometimes it would release half way.
any ideas? maybe i screwed up a few disconnects or maybe its my buttons?
Sounds like an issue with your button. I have the same problem with one of mine registering twice in quick succession. It’ll select my character and color for me with one push. I’m waiting on my replacement buttons to come in, the SE Fightstick buttons have been a thorn in my side.
Hi Toodles, assuming you get my payment for an MCC upgrade kit, 2 imp’s and a console extension cable for xbox1 and PSX yesterday.
Just wondering if I can go and add a fully assembled MCC onto my order. (I’m gonna need one at some point down the line anyways, thought I would save myself on the shipping)
I’m about ready to hack together a box with my Cthulhu board – all I need are the wires.
It’s funny: orderd all my parts from LL long ago and when I received them I was already using my TE stick. Now that I have my stuff, I’m ready to put together! I’m definitely going to hold out a while to get a CE stick and gut it. Until then, it’s ghetto stick time!
