The Official Convention Thread

Thanks it was fun getting them to sketch characters they either haven’t drawn before or drawn too much of. Omar Dogan told me someone asked him to draw Sakura wearing Morrigan’s outfit, I wish I could of seen it.

So Wonder Con may be JQ’s next con appearance? If anyone’s going please attend his panel. After OMD that’s gonna be a riot. I gotta hang out until April for the NY Comic Con to hear JQ speak. I like JQ despite not agreeing with some of his decisions with Marvel characters. In person he’s a really nice guy, but the convention reaction is going to be all kinds of comedy.

Pittsburgh Comicon '08 is April 25-27th

I’ll be there.

Akron-Canton con is before that (sometime in February), I MAY end up at that one, depending on if I can get a day off.

For anyone in Florida or close to it Megacon is going down during March 7-9. I’m nowhere near Florida but just a heads up.

For the NY Anime Fest, for all the attendees they sent out a huge 20 page online poll asking a bunch of questions, what people like about the show, what they should change, who would you like to see in '08 and so on. One of the questions was whether or not they should move the date to September. I said yes because having the show in December lead me to buy a bunch of stuff and exhaust a lot of my X-Mas bonus money, and then after I got everyone gifts I was hella broke…

I’m really looking forward to the NYCCC in NY this year, since 1. I don’t work on the weekends anymore, so I can actually go all 3 days, and 2. it starts on my birthday, April 18th

Udon better NOT slack off and have a table this year!
I get to be there on Saturday, when the most stuff happens.
Should be a nice bday goft to myself…

I think Udon isn’t coming because they had a table at the NY Anime Festival in December '07. I asked them at the show and they said ‘maybe.’ My friend asked them later on and they said ‘no.’ Someone asked them at Udon’s panel discussion and they said “Maybe but we will be at the San Diego Comic Con.”

I dunno, I think they are not coming. Last year they had a tough time reserving space for the event. Maybe the NY Anime Festival will be their annual NY stop?

Course who knows. I hope they come back so I can get some more sketches. Gotta get them to draw me Final Fight Streetwise Cammy and more characters no one has asked them for yet lol! :lovin:

Special thanks to Kataklysmic for pointing this out. SF4 at Wondercon!

Guest list. TM Revolution! They performed the song “Heart of Sword” for the Rurouni Kenshin anime and they are doing a song for the Arc / Capcom Sengoku Basara Cross 2D Fighter too! They are performing somewhere in NY on March 19, might try and to to that once I get more info.

Yes, that was some very awesome news. Reed Exhibitions sene me emails about events they add onto the NYCC, and when I saw that, I was like :woot::woot:

2nd weekend of September, huh? I’ll try to make it, since I missed the first one

if your in ny,ct or surrounding mass areas. come to boston comic con march 16th. My local comic shop has been throwing these big esque comic conventions now. most comic conventions in boston come through and think their gonna be big. but you gotta start from the ground up and bedrock comics i have been going to them since i was 6 years old…honest to god. and their growing and growing.

I was able to make it to wondercon yesterday. Went to the capcom panel, bionic commnado rearmed looks great. They showed a 3 min street fighter IV trailer that introduced all the characters announced so far.

Also got this Vega skecth by Vong Lo who’s working on Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

I was at WondyCon, too. Sadly, I got there a little later than I expected (1:45PM) and I missed the Street Fighter IV stuff. I went with a buddy and we went to a couple panels (X-Files, Harold & Kumar, LucasFilm/Star Wars). I had some time to browse the convention vendors, but maybe not as much time as I would have liked. Here’s what I bought yesterday:

Scott Pilgrim v. 1 and 2, The Atomics in Snap City TPB from Oni (3 books for 10 bucks)

Ult. Spidey v. 15, 16 and WE 3 TPB (the WE 3 TPB is beat up but it was the only one I could find in the 50% area, and I just felt like I needed to own it in addition to my issues)

DD v. 13 (trying to get all the TRADES, BABY so I can give away my run of issues), Violent Cases (Gaiman/McKean), The American TPB (a thick Dark Horse book I decided to pick up on a whim), Terra Obscura v. 2, Madman: G-Men from Hell TPB (got these from a 5 TPBs for $25 place)

Including my entrance fee, the WondyCon did 70 bucks’ worth of damage to me. No word yet on when I will read any of the stuff I bought. I still have comics I bought over 13 months ago that I still have not read. I’m hopelessly addicted to comics. The American TPB looks potentially good. Verheiden wrote it back in the late '80s, early '90s, and the book is like over 350 pages. It is big and thick… AND THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID.

I also got to meet good ol’ Painy and his family. His kids are cute. Mark Bagley drew them free sketches. Nobody drew me any free sketches. I’m too ugly. Also, I didn’t have any time left over to get any autographs and such. Sorry, Painy, but Mike Choi wasn’t around to sign that X-23 issue.

I ended up leaving the WondyCon around 5:45PM because a couple of friends from out of town swung by and invited me to dinner. (Actually, they invited the buddy I was with, who in turn invited me to tag along with them.) We went to Buca di Beppo, this swanky Italian place a couple blocks away from the convention center. That is a very good restaurant. The walls had many photos of happy nuns and this made for a pleasant eating atmosphere. Also, their meatballs were quite the bomb. They were really big - just about the size of a newborn baby’s head. Also, the texture and moisture level of the meatballs really simulated the experience of eating real baby brain.

After that, we went to this really shitty karaoke place in Japantown. The room they gave us was dirty as hell. Garbage was on the floor and there was some weird sticky stuff on the table. We left after 5 minutes and they decided not to charge us any money. I wish I had been paid to go into that room. I could always use more money to buy more comics.

Devastator - Nice sketch!

Zephyranthes - Thanks for sharing!

Sounded like a fun con.

I think I could’ve had even more fun if Sano himself had come to the convention floor and given me a copy of the Street Fighter: The Movie: The Official Comic Book Adaptation.
