i just read superman : brainiac by johns and frank. i thought that the story was going to be trash because i have always thought of brainiac as a lame villain. then i read a review of it somewhere, and today i decided to buy THE TRADE BABY. wow. that was one of the best books i have read in a while. i also finally bought the man who laughs. great stuff.
So you weren’t going to buy a story Johns wrote because you though the villain was stupid?
Are you retarded? He made Mirror Master cool.
MIRROR MASTER.
You are a failure.
no. it was more like i am not a fan of superman. but i should know better than to doubt johns. i’m really looking forward to the day that new krypton is collected in the TRADE BABY. that i have been looking forward to reading since i heard about it.
He made the FALCON COOL.
FAIL.
ok i fail. i repent
Technically, Morrison made Mirror Master cool, and Johns just riffed on what Morrison established. Read old issues of Animal Man if you don’t believe me. And then there was the Rock of Ages story in JLA. That’s where all of Mirror Master’s respectability came from. Not saying that Johns couldn’t have made him a cool character if Morrison hadn’t given him something to build on; rather, just making sure that I continually establish my alpha dog Comic Book Forum superiority.
Bats:gothic gets better every time I read it. Great color palette, some memorable lines from such as “I AM THE KING OF HELL”, and "I bent over, very poignant writing (what else do you expect from morrison), and a very enjoyable story. Although if you can’t ignore the fact that such a significant event and his childhood memories have never been mentioned outside of this story you won’t like it.
I was goign to say captain cold, but didn’t want to go with the easy pun.
Grant Morrison is a bitch anyway.
so, I’m totally looking for a great Graphic Novel to read with great art…can anyone give me the top 10 GN’s of all time list? (Marvel, DC, and Image fan here)
Killing joke
Watchmen
The dark knight returns
Daredevil born again and man without fear
I was in the same boat as you(Not Superman fan, trust Johns, turns out its a fantastic story arc), make sure you get the arc before that “Legion of Superheroes”; a weaker, but still very good book.
Legion of Superheroes is nice.
Brainiac is too fucking good.
Geoff Johns is too fucking good.
@Vicious- Don’t hate on Morrison, dude, overlook him and enjoy his work.
havent really liked any of the Johns Superman stuff yet. Havent read Braniac though. Looking forward to Rucka being back on the title.
I’m only attacking him people I need to attack something. Secondary Mutations > Marvel. They couldn’t handle that idea and deleted it.
Attack Frank Miller’s deteriorated writing skills then ;_;
You mean how every story he writes is just sin city with a character inserted in there?
Because that is what he does.
“This neighborhood is a dark abortion now, I must pry the filthy urchins from the rocks of the innocent”
Yesterday, I found and bought Supreme Power volumes 1 and 2 and Filler (Rick Spears and Rob G) for only $2 bucks each! Now I feel the need to boast about finding such a great deal.
Carry on.
Supreme Power by JMS is too good.
Nighthawk should be in 616 continuity and have Garth Ennis write him.
@VS- Pretty much
Young Liars vol. 1 - this one was pretty weird, even for Lapham. I like Sadie, just wish the main guy was more likeable. And wtf…he gets his dick cut off? did they sew it back on? ending was vague
Iron Man: War Machine - this thick trade reprints 11 issues during Len Kaminski’s run that finished up the whole “Tony Stark” is dying plot that had been brewing for 100 issues or so and debuted the War Machine armor and then a new gold armor. I rememeber reading these when they came out (in 1993) and I am still fond of it, I think it holds up better than the Dragon Seed Saga issues Byrne wrote. I would still love to have a tpb of Armor Wars II…maybe a nice MPC
Yeah, Young Liars was interesting but perplexing as well. That’s one of those comics that I’d need to read more than once to figure out.
