that got a nice laugh out of me haha
I’m not going all out and getting every sequel, just universe X vol 1 to read. I’m still somewhat newer to comics (started reading them about 2 summers ago) so it’s not like i don’t have plenty to choose from

Thanks for covering my ass. No homo. Or is there???
Finished Exterminators vol. 3 - Not quite as good as vol. 2 but still the best comic ever
Currently half-way through Aliens Omnibus vol. 1. The writer (mark verdhein or whatever) is consistant throughout as are most of the characters. This format is great for stuff like this.
Also almost done with the Wolverine/Ghost Rider story from Marvel Comics presents that was tpb’d at one time as “acts of vengeance”
I’ve got like 13 Omnibuses on my shelf that I have to read now
so i got Punisher’s “Very Special Holidays” and the first issue in it is completely upside down, the rest are normal… this is awkward
PIcked up a bunch of trades during the holidays.
Got Wanted, Criminal volume 1 and Ex Machina volume 1 and FABLES!!!
Wanted was okay, though I found it to be a little bit goofy by the end. Not too sure if I’ll continue collecting the tradesn though… if they ever make a sequel.
Criminal was great. Brubaker at his finest. I’m definitely gonna pick up volume 2.
Haven’t gotten thru Ex Machina yet but so far it’s shaping up to be pretty good and it looks like i’ll be adding it to my collection.
I’m saving Fables for the end because I hear such excellent praise for it around the forums and I want to save the best for last.
Anyone read Savage Dragon? I thought about getting Savage Dragon Archive 1, I read up on him on Wiki and was sold, but then I found out the TPB is in black and white, so that threw me off. Is it worth it?
Yeah, I was thinking about getting that Savage Dragon Archive book, too. It’s a pretty good deal, but I’m just not too sure how much I would actually enjoy it. The last time I read Savage Dragon was way back in the early days, before the series struck double-digits. I remember liking it as a kid, but I don’t know if I would like it now. The black and white doesn’t really bother me, though. I flip through sometimes at the store and I think Larsen is a good artist. He was definitely my favorite of the original Image artists back when they first started. If I ever have extra cash for an impulse buy, maybe I’ll get it one of these days…
I was actually more interested in the black and white archive TPB of Jamie Delano’s Outlaw Nation, also from Image. Now that book looks like a great read.
Well my bar isn’t that high, so I might go for it. I’m just glad there’s a compilation/archive from a decade other than 60’s and 70’s. Not dissin’ vintage comics, but cheese goes better after fermenting for twenty years.
Just started reading my copy of Shazam & The Monster Society of Evil. Alex Ross did the introduction and clearly he is all over the Jeff Smith’s nuts. I mean, I’ve read intros where people praise the writer but man, Alex was practically masturbating over Jeff’s work.
Anyway, I’m on almost done with chapter 2 and its not too shabby. Reads like a kid’s book but still enjoyable for adults. I LOL when ever I see Marvel say “Holey Moley!”
The last TPB I read was Spider-Man: Fairy Tales, which was a nice pick-me-up after OMD (Screw you, Joe Q). Each story has its own unique artwork. The artwork in “What You Wish For” reminded me of John Romita’s stuff back in his run on Amazing Spider-Man. My hats off to Nick Dragotta. And poor Gwen. Getting killed at the end of the tale. When I saw the pannel of her laying there under the rubble, I couldn’t help but laugh because she died, yet AGAIN in a Marvel story. 616, Ultimate, Spidey: Fairy Tales. The girl can’t stay alive in any continuity. And poor MJ. Peter was soo busy swoon over Gwen he didn’t notice the hotness that was MJ in that green dress.
I almost bought that. Alex Ross really needs to get off the “GOLDEN AGE SUPERHEROS ARE THE BEST” thing. We get it, you love wholesome DC goldenage poppy cock. Don’t get all mad that Marvel came in during the 60’s and Stan Lee made superheroes human.
He’s probably pissed ( like tons of other DC stallwards ) that DC is still struggling to copy Stan the Man’s model even today. Supes, WW, MM, and many other still come off as very stiff and godlike. They still haven’t realized that the best DC stories usually revolve around Superman questioning his godness/humanity, not being turned into a pussy Spiderman wannabe.
I got Amulet ( a good little magical story by Kazu Kibishi ), Nick Fury Agent of Shield ( a collection of Stenanko’s run on Strange tales, which I was sad to find out didn’t have the single Nick Fury issues, it’s okay so far, I basically got it for the art ), Persepolis ( the graphic novel that the movie is based on ), and two new concretes which I need to read.
Speaking of Jeff Smith, I have the one volume edition of bone and still haven’t read a word of it. I guess I should get to that too.
I’ve read most of Monster Society of Evil. It’s good.
Ahhhh, so that’s his deal. I almost stopped reading his intro because I was getting sick of his leg humping. No wonder so many people hate Alex Ross. I guess I’m one of the few who respect him as an artist, but man, hearing him gush on and on about golden age stuff was irking me. Is he really more of a DC guy than a Marvel guy because the heroes in Marvel are more human?
Speaking of Bone, I’m been thinking of picking that series up. Oh and Mary Marvel is sooooooooo cute. :lovin:
I have no proof, but I think it’s pretty obvious he favors DC more. He probably thinks of the old DC comics are a more pure time or something.
He still to this day won’t draw Kyle Rainer. Alex Ross is a very good artist, but he isn’t perfect and he’s a nerd of the highest caliber.
There are a lot of comic fans who fit his profile so it’s not some strange behavior.
Kyle Rayner is a turd and I wouldn’t draw him with my pee in the snow.
Erhm. Anyway.
I assume Alex Ross favors DC, since Superman is his favorite character, and he’s all into the notion of superheroes as mythological archetypes and shit. Marvel’s characters are more like circus freaks than mythological heroes.
Alex Ross is a great painter, but he sucks as a story teller.
Picked up Life and Death of Captain Marvel a bit ago, just now getting around to reading it and damn I swear they need to put Andy Warhol for the art, some of this stuff is trippy!
how are the 100 bullets trades after vol.5. i used to pick up a trade a week but stopped sometime ago. fiending for some crime stories though, so how are they?
finished ultimates 2…who cares about delays when you have a nice fat hardcover on your shelf?
i have to say, i liked the first ultimates a lot (didnt love it), but ultimates 2 is like 100x better…very impressive
100 Bullets is still awesome. I gotta reread my TPBs, though. It gets kind of complex and I can’t keep everything straight in my mind.
Yeah, as long as companies don’t delay HCs and TPBs, that’s all that matters.
I have the issues myself. Delays were a damn nightmare, even if it was Authority Lite.
I got a question though. How is the 8 page foldout handled in the HC ( and other spreadpages) ?
And is the HC oversized ( I know there’s an oversized ultimates 1 out )
