You can test most of it by shooting a wall and looking at the bullet pattern. When they say a guns initial recoil has been increased then it means when people ‘tap burst’ it will have extra kick and larger spread and be less effective in bursts than it was previously because they will be repeatedly starting the initial phase of the recoil. Some guns have high initial recoil but don’t get much worse with constant fire while others are much more useful using a tap burst method and have much more recoil once it goes full auto so there is then a lot of climb (upwards) and muzzle drift (side to side spread). So basically a guns fire is broken down into 2 phases at its basic level. Once you lay down then the recoil is reduced a lot more but you are a sitting target in prone because its slow to go into and get out of. In standing the recoil will be at its sort of mid level which is what you’ll use most when standing behind cover etc and when running the recoil will be at its worst.
I think there is a couple of youtube channels which someone told me about that can help but I just figured the stuff out on my own by shooting walls with foregrip, bipod, free hand also while standing, running, prone and close mid long ranges and all in full, burst (some guns have this), single fire and the tap burst method to see which guns suit me. You can look at where the bullets hit on a wall and figure out which guns are more accurate then.
I’ll look up some of those videos at some point and see if they have anything useful for you.
EDIT: Just looked what they did to the Type 88, they slightly increased the initial recoil so it has a little more kick when you start firing but they reduced the drift so it stays on target a lot more and doesn’t move off at an angle which means its a lot easier to control where the bullets are going.
After going 25-1 on Grand Bazaar on Rush with this:
-Type 88 LMG
-KOBRA RDS
-Bipod
-Extended mags
Mind you this was on a server where the attacking team starts with 150(200?) tickets. I just noticed they kept funneling through a narrow corridor by B and just set up shop there. Also very nice that my teammates kept throwing ammo/reviving me XD I’ve tried to the M240B and it’s powerful but holy balls does it recoil.
Its great when you have team mates that actually help you, half the time I just have to scavenge some terribly set up gun off a dead guy just to survive because there’s 3 support guys sat in a corner somewhere who wont throw ammo out. I may give the 88LMG a go when I get on there because after they removed the ext mag for the MG36 its just not that good anymore and it was only a mid level lmg anyway, so I need to find a new gun to use.
My friend sent me the link to one of those videos I was talking about. Its about half an hour but its seems to cover quite a few important things to know about if you’re going to be any good:

There was also another channel called “rivalXfactor” who apparently do some tutorials for the game. I’m not sure sure what they’re like but apparently they helped my friend so might be useful.
Ha I do agree with the very 1st point on that symphic post about fall damage. They said it was removed for small falls but I jumped from half way down the stairs next to D flag on Seine crossing earlier and it put me on 73% health. BF3 soldiers have very brittle bones.
Its definitely not as bad a CoD but there is still some very stupid things. Because its DICE though, you know when its on their radar then they’ll normally fix it so the game just gets better all the time.
I used the MG36 as a “Mobile” LMG then discovered the M27 IAR then the QBB-95(? Whatever it’s called) It has a 75 round magazine and a fast reload, currently my fourth most used weapon.
Im just not sure why they decided to remove the extended mag from it which only put it to 101 capacity when the gun has a 4.7 second while empty reload. While they gave the RPK less recoil and levelled muzzle drift left and right so its just vertical to contend with, 200 bullets and what seems to be a reload time that is faster than most assault rifles and also the bullet velocity is faster. That just didn’t make sense to me.
I’m not sure they actually meant to remove the ext mag for the MG36. The change log said this about the gun “MG36: Added an initial recoil. The MG36 fires at a fast 750rpm and makes a nice middle ground between the controllability of a clip LMG and the sustained firepower of a belt fed LMG” They never mention removing the ext mag for it and that intial recoil is too much for it now as it was already worse than other LMGs of its type such as the RPK. The sodium level certainly increased when I realised how much worse the gun is now. I started using the RPK but its a ugly bitch compared to the MG36.
M4, M16, or the M416 are probably your safest bets until you get used to the game. They are all jack of all trade master of none weapons. Famas isn’t quite as useless as I thought it would be although the nerf was sever and unneeded. I was playing with Cawi last night and we won a Rush game we had no business winning because he stole their heli and I just kept getting into their MCom area until it basically forced the rest of my team up. I was getting quite a few kills with the Famas in that close quarter style environment. Anything closer then mid range and the Famas is still a walking death trap for anyone in front of it. It still shoots at a 1000rpm and I was out dueling Shotguns up close.
The helicopter I stole was on its side underneath the dome on damavand peak. Checking my stats online I had a killstreak of 41. Which means I only shot maybe 4-5 people that whole game with a gun. I had no business being alive that long.
Edit: Was that the same game I caught three people with a grenade?
I can’t use any other carbine anymore besides the M4A1, QBZ-95, and AKS-74UMAD. I have not tried the G36C post-patch or the G53(I’ve been told it’s good now) along with the SG553 but the SG seems to have stupid recoil no matter what I put on it. F2000 is still good(Laser Sight, Fore grip) I’m just trying to find out what optic I can slap on the AN-94.
Saiga 12K Definitely got buffed just run up and spray people to death.
Im on 360 and its happened to me and the other guys I play with in the really big games where there is a lot going on. I just avoid the servers with full tickets like cq 1750 op metro because once the scores start getting insanely high then people start dropping because of freezes. When we run shorter games on our platoons server then we don’t have any problems.
Here’s what I currently will try to roll with as a Recon:
Sniper Assault - 870 with slugs and 6x scope
Cowboy - DAO-12 with slugs + Magnum
Van Pelt - Bolt action sniper rifle with straight bolt pull and laser / flashlight
I’d also like to add that he bolt-action as no optics. Now that I have mastered the art of strapping my transport chopper with C4 and taking out MBT’s with it I can do silly things now like put AT-Mines on a jet and crash into a tank like this guy.
