The Official ATP Tennis thread

Amazing, I’m so glad work didn’t schedule me till after this was over. That match inspired me to start playing tennis more.

ryoma echizen wins.

I think this win will give Nadal some steam to take the US OPEN also. I got a feeling he’ll be on some Agassi status soon (win all 4 grand slams)

Yeap, Echizen wins

Anyways this has motivated me to try Tennis out.

I hate that I’m starting this late. Who knows where I could of been if I would have started earlier. If only my Father was like Earl Woods.

meh, R.I.P ATP.

Fed is prolly goin down big time after this and surprisingly, there arent other players that can beat Nadal sooo, its over for me. I cant really see Nadal as n1.

FUCK

I can’t believe I had to work today. :frowning:

If Nadal can win it on the hardcourt now, might see a Grand Slam!

Nah I wouldn’t say that. He is still a threat to win any grand slam (besides the French) and I still think that he will beat Sampras’ record. As a matter of fact I still think that he wins the US Open seeing that Nadal still struggles on hard courts.

I don’t watch tennis very often but today as I was eating my spring roll I turn to NBC. Shit had me hook, that was a fucking epic match. I though Fed would come back since he had the lead late in the match but Nadal just refuse to lose. Shit was awesome I need to watch more tennis.

Watching that tennis match today made me realize how similar fighting games are to a good one on one game of Tennis. Definitely strategies involved but mainly very quick decisions made between 2 players in a head to head situation. Tennis is so much more fun to watch when you understand some of the dynamics of it and how quickly each palyer must react to each shot. If you’re just looking at it any old way it’s just two people hitting a ball back and forth. When you understand what they players are feeling though…it’s totally different.

people our sleeping on Tennis…well high level tennis anyways…this shit is serious

anyone know where i can find a replay…i was at work when it went down.

truth. this shit was so much more entertaining to watch than the NBA Finals, and not just cause of the drama(french open finals was rape, but that was fun too). nadal’s the only person I’ve ever ever seen even hit back those federer forehands(the ones where you think could only be angled in videogames), those are straight winners against every other human being, but nadal can fuckin hit THOSE back for winners, it blows my mind. We got to see the so called greatest game in Wimbledon history; when’s the next time you think you’re gonna hear about that level of play in the NBA?(/end rant on the League)

Federer’s too hungry to let Nadal eclipse him just like that. I see this as a beginning of a true 50/50 rivalry. As I watching the match I had a random thought about how much further this knocks down Andy Roddick into mediocrity, he just came up in the wrong time:looney:

Yea it a good rivalry but Nadal totally rape Fed on clay. Fed has the upper hand at Wimbledon but damn today could be signs of things to come.

It’s crazy.

Nadal everytime has gotten just a little bit better on Grass, to the point now that he can now keep up with Federer on Grass.

Nad-

God Tier-Clay
A notch slightly below God Tier on Grass

however he’s ass on a Hard Court.

Finally, I’m back from work.

Thank God for Roger and Rafa, that match just took tennis to a whole new level.

So, here are my thoughts on the match. We can’t speculate easily that for here it is downhill for Roger, if you watched the match, you can clearly see Roger struggling with his backhand unlike a year or couple of years back when he won his last 2 Wimbledon Championship, his backhand was GDLK unlike what we saw yesterday. If only he was able to execute his backhand like the years before it would have been a very different match or he could have used his insane backhand slice more often because from what I’ve noticed it gives Rafa a lot of trouble but he stuck with his strategy. Taking nothing away from Rafa, he totally deserves Wimbledon Championship this year more than anyone else. After that fourth set, anyone other than Rafa would have crumpled in pressure in the fifth set but not Rafa. He just wouldn’t be denied this time. Thank God we have been given the privilege to see it. As for Roger, I still think he is the best player ever even though he won’t probably win a French Title until Rafa’s still around but being able to reach the finals 3 times now is an big accomplishment in itself. As for Rafa, the sky’s the limit for this guy. He is just an athletic freak,
I think he would define what a tennis player would be in the future and perhaps he would be the greatest player ever if ever he continues to improve like this. And both are just class acts, what a role model for our future athletes. Unlike most of the pro leagues [NBA?] all talk, no shit done players.

Kudos to both. I hope to see more matches between them. See you in US OPEN FINALS. Can’t wait. :woot:

I actually think he stepped his game up on the hard courts he made it to the semi-finals of the Australian, where he got upset by Tsonga ( even tho it was rape) he actually has more titles on the hard court then he does on grass

we’ll see at the U.S. if he really has or not

Federer still go a couple slams in him but I’m jumping on the Nadal bandwagon, that match was too good:rock:

I don’t see fed falling off. These two have strengths that counter one another, i’m hoping for some ken and ryu like rivary.

Fed has:
+gauss rifle like serve.
+best footwork
+Video game angled shots
+Ultimate emotion control

Nadal

  • x2 rpm on all forehand shots
  • unrivalled fitness & one big bicep power
  • Ability to return the unreturnable
  • Lefty flip

^

Nadal

  • cant be beaten by Fed

Great match, the last few moments were intense and I don’t even follow the sport. Very enjoyable.
