Nice try with Q, you shoulda had it! Jitters xD

Something epic & legendary is on it’s way…Check back here in 24 hours for an update.

Hey DBA, did you get that PM on youtube?

Shend,

I’ve been bad about checking my messages on that particular youtube account. was it about that link you sent regarding the sourcing? That will come in handy down the road. Thanks! I’ve also tracked some contacts I have in Japan and hopefully they can help out with footage when needed. At least until the next year when I finally start living there…

Had a question for you. Did the Coop Cup 5&6 ever get released on DVD that you aware of? I see they are up to part 7 now.

Hey DBA, is that AngelLand3S youtube channel yours too then I take it?

Re: the Co-Op Cup DVDs I believe only 4 have had DVD releases (1, 2, 4 & 7).

The PM I sent was about the fact that youtube have upped my file limit per video from 1Gg to 20Gig! I was just wondering what on earth you could see yourself using it for, I thought maybe long, high image quality casual sets from particular arcades on their busy days or maybe the channel becoming official affiliate/outlet for 3rdStrike videos for those arcades too. Just ideas!

Good to speak to you again.
TheShend

20 GB?!? If that’s the case, after I move to Japan I will be sure to just hook up direct feed on one of the 3s machines at Angel-land and let it go to town. I’ll mail the disc to you and you can upload it to your channel. If that’s something you’d be interested in.

Yeah the angel-land channel is mine. I made it as sort of a tribute to the 3s scene in Tokushima. It’s small, but hardcore.

As promised, here is a large batch of 3s videos I’ve uploaded to a new youtube channel.
www.youtube.com/zenkoku3s

I have 43 of 50 videos uploaded. The rest should be up in a couple days.

The footage is from the legendary Zenkoku (National) 3on3 tournament from 2001. You could consider it the “Golden Age” of Japanese 3rd Strike. It features many great players that are still dominate today, and many other great ones who have faded out of the tournament scene. But one player, a true legend, Hikone-Ken stands out among everyone else. Hikone-Ken tragically died in a car accident last November. It devastated many throughout the Japanese 3s community. He was regarded as having one of the greatest Ken and Gouki’s in all of Japan. His name and memory is honored in the A-Cho “Hikone” Cup tournament, which was held shortly after his death and the footage just released on the internet recently.

The source of this footage was from an original VHS tape from G-UP. I was lucky (extremely lucky) to have ordered the last one nearly 7 years ago. It has never been in production since. And never will be again. I felt it very important to preserve this great tournament in digital format, and also honor Hikone’s memory by uploading his matches as well.

I originally released this footage 5 years on the GoForBroke Hub. It may not be new to everyone, but to those who have never seen it, it is a must.

Please enjoy.

edit: the frame rates are rather poor in these videos. Sadly this cannot be helped because the problem lies with the way G-UP encoded MPG to VHS in 2001. This was later corrected in G-UP vol.2 and so on.

This is amazing many thanks for all your hard work. Appreciate you saving this piece of history.

Do you know the exact date he died?

I do not know the exact date. I believe it was the first week of November. I can find out though.

The story of how he died is really sad. My wife even cried.

KSK mentions about how he ran into Hikone somewhere and they started talking. Hikone tells him that he plans on entering a big 3s tournament the next day and word gets around to all the other players. Lots of hype and anticipation for this.

The day of the tournament hikone doesn’t show up. The players were angry. I guess many gathered to the event just to see him. They didn’t know why Hikone stood them up. News finally broke that he died in a car accident. He was probably traveling to wherever the tournament was being held…

Wow man thanks for sharing that piece of information. I never knew about that, and those videos are great too. Makes me real nostalgic about the days I use to watch the old Shirube and Coop Cup 1 vids in my dorm back in 2002.

thats rly an honorable thing for them to do

even including an ALL ken tournament as well as naming the ENTIRE tournament after his name

God forbid something happens to Kuroda or any other big name
