He wants a lot of people to show up at the next two events at screenz (the one this weekend and the one at the end of feb) because he doesn’t want the scene to die… basicly DarkKakashi is running the only other chicago 2d events other than FF and MWC (when we used to have MWC and MWC), and it would be great to have as many people come and show their support for it. I actually like to see frequent events rather then just two a year. Yes, I know there have been other great events for 2d in nearby areas, like the UIUC tournament, as well as Sluts in STL and SB3 in Ohio. But we are talking about possibly having a monthly 2d event in Chicago, as well as a place that people can get together to play, while only having to pay a small cover charge, which usually includes food (a couple times we got subway and dominos).
I really don’t think webster is trying to be disrespectful though so don’t worry about him. Let’s get along… and if you don’t play HD Remix or Tatsu vs Capcom or even stupid ass smash brothers, that’s cool. There is going to be another even next feb so if you guys are interesting in seeing a particular 2D game at that event, let DK know. They already have a thread up for it in tournament announcements, and if it gets big enough it could be a 2 day event.

Hey all, I’m new to this thread.
My name is Tenchi. I’m from Southern California. More specficially, San Diego.
The only game I play seriously is 3rd Strike but dabble in CvS2 and Guilty Gear.
I’m brand new to the area. I’m staying at a place in Great Lakes near the Navy base.
The closest mall to me I believe is called Gurney Mills Mall.
I’m hoping I picked the right thread to search for local competition.
Any help would be much appreciated.

pretty sure no one around here plays 3rd strike but Kennywood (always up to no good) plays CvS2. The only 3 people in this area that are serious players are me, kennywood (always up to no good) and capps indigo
yes, you picked the right thread. whether or not you have comp in those games will depend on your definition of ‘close’ and ‘far.’ for 3s part2, shaaaady, mightymar, bob washington, dfly, orka, exarchezekiel, nives (sort of) are ppl you might want to contact (in more or less that order). for cvs2 bombchivo, kennywood, exarchezekiel, fenix87… im sure i missed a few, but ill just let them post. for gg, theres is a lot of good comp if you decide to take that game more seriously, just let me know. and if you want to play any new games, i know theres people that play just about everything except for tekken (see WI for that).

dd, overall what youre saying is fine. but where you run into problems is when you (and others too imo) assume that theres something wrong w/ the chi scene… or that we should be doing more than we already are. trust me, gatherings are still happening, ppl are still traveling, hosting tourneys, training sessions, chatting, etc… there is really nothing wrong with our scene. if you had stopped your original statement a little short and basically said something like ‘hey, theres a tourney this sat at screenz w/ [these] games being played, should be a good time, look forward to seeing the ppl that can make it out,’ then i think that you wouldve been fine and no one wouldve responded negatively. the fact that you included ‘it’s ONLY fair to cater to a scene that gives back’ is what offends ppl. first off, it should be obvious that no one likes being told what to do. 2nd, you dont guilt ppl into coming to a tourney. 3rd, you make it sound like the chi ppl arent doing something, basically youre assuming too much. as stated above, the chi scene is doing fine overall. not everything [that we do] needs to be broadcast to the whole world. besides that, even dk said himself:

in your response to cracka j, jim has never been one of the people saying that he wishes the scene was better. he has a good understanding of how it is (and was), and that it is fine. what people, in general, ppl need to understand is that this forum/thread is just a very general way to interact with the chi scene. really what you (the ppl that want gatherings in a given game) should be doing is meeting people at the tourneys you go to, exchanging info, and talking to people directly. i doubt that many people are going respond to one line posts like ‘i want to play games’ or ‘i wish ppl played more x’ in the chi thread. its not specific enough and its basically an away message. [[this is not directed at 1st time posters, since i explicitly ask them to do this. i try to respond to as many of these posts as i can, when i see them]]. if you want to play games, send IMs, PMs, txts, or just call people. see when theyre free and arrange your sessions. youll get feedback much quicker and wont feel like ppl are ignoring you.
if people are offering gatherings, thats a different situation. as ive said before, if im hosting an open gathering, i post a certain time w/ certain games to be played and play games w/ whoever shows up. if that turns out to be an intense 4 man session or a 15 person fg party so be it. i am satisfied with it. in the future, these may or may not happen. its up to the individual and really ppl shouldnt expect that someone do these types of gatherings.
as far as dk’s stuff. he’s awesome. his last tourney was on nec weekend, which i know affected the turnout. the tourney this weekend… hasnt happened yet, so we cant say or complain about if ppl did or did not show up. the one in a month will have sf4. both tourneys and all furture ones are or will be posted in the first post as usual. ive gone to his tourneys and entered in tourneys for games i dont even play. he does things the right way and as far as i have seen, he has been supported. local tourneys, which are what he is generally running, get turnouts from 10-30. im pretty sure thats what he’s been getting. if he needs, for example, at least 25 ppl to show up to the next tourney, well… he can say that, since he’s the one running the tourney, and ppl will see what they can do.
ps, webster… most of the post isnt specifically directed at you. its just that your post allowed me to express more general stuff that i wanted to say. first thing im doing tomorrow is giving you a big friendly handshake.

capps: i completely understand your response. i suppose i did get a little “off” in my recent post. some of the things i mentioned, weren’t even directly from me anyways…for I am aware of what the og chicago scene consist of and the efforts they made. i guess the reason why i didn’t want to say specifically who said what in my post, because I didn’t want to start a ridiculous flame war.
but it’s all good. we have an idea what’s up now…and overall we all are aiming for the same goal (I hope):
is to broaden and enhance our competitive fighting game community…for the better of course.
