Dang man, why all that heat? Cole’s already talked to some of us about it…There will be a tournament to decide if you can get in or not…it’s not like we weak players here…shit let me name them to you:
Jason Cole
Mandel Scott
Jason APOCALYPSE
Julian Beasley
Ray BLADE X
You need to prove yourself to get on this team with a handful of greats in there. So all in all, there are 3 spots supposedly held which are: Apoc, Cole, and Zass. Therefore, Cole said that he would throw a tournament to fulfill the other 2 spots. At the same time, RBX probably won’t come down to it…and there are possibilities that Julain, Cole, or Apoc don’t GO to evo.
Personally, I would even go as far as saying what another person said…First to 10’s for the spot. Tournament’s can decide who continues and what not, however this can get random…I think that after the tournament is held, a possible “first to 10” side exhibition should be held as well…You think you can take a spot? Lets see you do it with consistency and not just luck of the bracket.
Cole, you could set up some dates specifically for when people are going to play for spots. NWM could definitely be one, but it would probably help if people had a date to train towards and more than one qualifier for the team. Especially for Portland guys who would need to make a trip up here to attend.
What I think ill do, to get the ideal players for the team. Is to have a HUGE round robin tourney. Im going to collect names and basically start a sign up sheet to get peeps who are serious about being on the team and are guaranteed to go to EVO. Once I get the list, ill create the bracket and most likely try to hold it at preppys or maybe even my own place. Not going to rush anything and yes, no spots are held. Those with skills should have no problem winning.
Round Robin is the only way to decide. I want the people who are clearly dominating to be on this team. So practice up and be sharp. Ill start a thread soon to start sign ups. No rush we got plenty of time. Might throw the tourney before or after our own NW majors.
Yes, this will be the best way to forge our team and generally improve everybody for the EVO singles HD Remix tourney, so even if a spot is not available, the training sure as hell is not!
This thing matters much, so I’ll definitely attend whatever tourney relates to being on the team.
FYI, I’ve been to every EVO since B4 (2000).
It’s unfortunate that Portland doesn’t have an equivalent to a " Zach’s House" or a couple SF4 machines across town. This doesn’t make our players any less dedicated.
Oh shit man, no hit on your dedication or anything, I was just thinking, it’d be crazy if Ray came down just to make a spot, showing amazing dedication and rep for your region.
All in all, yeah, I think that NWM should be a good time for qualifying for this tournament as everyone’s gonna be there. At the same time, I don’t think that this “round robin” tourny should be the end all beat all…for example, if in time I fell like I can take out Julian Beasley in a first to 10, I think that I have the right to challenge him, and if I win, I think I have a right to a spot on the team.
If you dont think this is the NW TOP 5 right now, you are either feeling yourself too much or just plain stupid. I do agree everyone should have a shot at at a team. But not in some shitty 2/3 tournament. Reasons
A: Shaddy Bracket Making possibility when it comes time for the tournament. People getting HOMEBOY slots.
B: 2/3 one time in a some random tournament really proves nothing.
I think people that are EVO proven should have a pre-slot to begin with and if your name isnt Cole, Beasly, RBX, or APOC, YOUR NOT EVO proven. Should we not send are best people to a EVO exhibition that have done the best at EVO. I see people getting shock up in local 5 vs 5. WTF is gonna happen when EVERY serious gamer is looking at you.
To get to the point of how to get on the team: BEAT THEM IN A 1ST TO 10. There is no denying a 1st to 10. its absolute. The Holy grail of who is better then who. Would you not feel better in beating any of the top 5 i have just named in a first to 10 instead of a first to 2? Because im pretty sure everyone else would have alot more confidence in you if you did. Lets do this the right way instead of fooling yourselves into thinking that this in some way might be a popularity contest. I would also have to beat one of the 4 i named in a 1st to 10 to get on the team as well. making it just as difficult for myself as it is for you. Lets think what's best for the PNW and not your personal wish to make the EVO DVD.
I think setting dates is the best way to ensure that we get the best team possible. People work harder when they are working towards something. Training like mad for something when you don’t know when its going to happen can lead to burnout. People should know when they need to be in top form. All the time just isn’t realistic.
I like Cole’s idea of doing it around NWM, and I think their should be a few before so that people can gauge their progress and see where they need to improve.
I agree with you raishinken. No worries, a 2/3 double elim tourney is NOT the way we are going to decide it. A very serious round robin set up will take place and everyone is going to play everyone so the real champions will shine. Having it right after NWM is ideal. Plenty of time for people to truely practice.
Cole
ps- With as much complaining as everyones doing, i can not have free slots for players. I pretty much know who is going to survive this round robin, those players will prove themselvs pretty easily and we will def get our ideal team. So no worries.
Julien Blake aka Julius Blaze aka Airthrow just fixed my rh button (big ups!) So would I want to go waste money when I can play HDR in my living room. Also I can do drugs here and no one bothers me.
1-Understandable.
2-Seattle Smeattle. Besides that you never drive anyway!
3-You would wanna waste money on the funner game. And you can level up at Narrows and look at all the hoodrats that show up at Narrows.
