I think it’s a good idea this is limited to the Labo series because that automatically keeps everyone’s expectations in check.
They say the basic set comes with software, but at 39.99 a cardboard headset is kinda hard to swallow especially for a lower price I can get a physical plastic headset for my Samsung phone
So, impressions for Mechstermination Force. The game controls feel as smooth as silk. Just the act of moving either the control pad or analog stick to aim feels very satisfying in this game. Although this is a 2.5D game, it somehow feels more natural playing this with analog because there will be times where you’ve got ti adjust your aim quickly. Also when you make a jump when platforming you better commit to it because your soldier got that old school stiff jump action going on. It isn’t exactly like that of the Belmonts but you’ve got very little control of your movements while in the air during a jump.
You get money from missions and you can either buy new weapons, temporary hearts or permanent hearts. It took me dozens of tries to beat the third mission. Pattern recognition is key in Mechstermination Force but it a lot of fun to get the moves down and kill these things. Once you learn them, its even more fun to replay completed missions for a lower clear time or go for that no damage run. Doing a no damage run on mission 2 is not gonna be easy.
There’s five characters to choose from starting out and Gunman Clive is one of them. I don’t know if there’s any difference between them or not though.
TL:DR
I’m really, really liking this game. It may seem a bit pricey at $11.99 but there’s replay value in improving yourself with this one.
@reggieh did you end up picking up friends of Ringo? Or has anyone for that matter?
Early impressions?
Impression for The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa
This is not gonna be a game for everyone. If you want a straight beat 'em up experience, this is not the game for you, There’s no hand holding and as open as the game is, there is no map. You can read books, train and or study to get your grades but doing so does not happen instantly. It takes in game hours of out the day and if you have a part time job or are in a club in the game and don’t show up for those things, you can get kicked from either one.
There game seems to be focused on where people are going with their lives once high school is over but being an open world game, you can be running around town and suddenly have some story beats dropped on you via running into a character Ringo knows.
Personally, I’m interested in seeing where the story of Ringo goes but again, if you want a beat 'em up without the open world stuff, look elsewhere.
That sounds…unappealing.
So I was more or less right with my first impression of the game based off the launch trailer.
I’m pretty close to finishing Yoshi’s story mode. There are some levels I’m not a big fan of but there are some that are so well done. The ones I don’t really enjoy are the one-offs where you like shoot things the whole time. The bosses are very easy too, I haven’t died once. I did notice the difficulty has picked up a bit on the levels near the home. I’m not sure if I’ll go back and get every smiley or not but we’ll see once I’m done.
Finished it today. I liked it and after you beat it there are 4 tough levels that are unlocked. I haven’t gotten to the 4th one yet because I haven’t finished the 3rd one yet, but I wasn’t trying too hard and went back to collect stuff I hadn’t done on prior levels. There is A LOT of post game stuff to do in this. I don’t know how much of it I will do but I can see myself doing a lot of it. I don’t know if I’ll get everything there is to get, but I might. Some of the levels are annoying and those ones will be hard to find motivation to get stuff on.
That sounds crazy, but something I’d be down for just because of the Switch Factor. This sounds Shenmue-esque to me, but only Shenmue could get me to bite on something like this on a ‘normal’ console.
Speaking of playing things I normally wouldn’t…Just finished Let’s Go Pikachu. I enjoyed what I’ve played of it and I’ll be going back to it to catch all the Pokémon (at 89 currently) and experimenting with moves and upgrading evolving.
Gonna give the turn-based gaming a break and dig into Monster Boy, when I’m not playing Twilight Princess HD. Good stuff all around. Because I want to finish TP HD in the next couple weeks, it sounds like Ringo Ishikawa is going to wait until next month possibly?
i’m just wondering when mario maker leaks come out. you know it’s going to happen
What is there to leak about Mario Maker? The game is pretty straight forward.
Blue Shells?
-SMB2 (Doki) style. Wishful thinking, I really don’t think this will happen, but it would be dope.
-4 player co-op
-Replay function for record playthroughs of posted levels like in Tropical Freeze Time Attack
-Overworld creator, with warp pipes/whistles hidden in the levels
-Secret walls like in NSMB games
-Secret exits to secret stages in your overworld map
-Game boy style, or maybe just Gamboy theme with green palate
-Athletic Theme option for music
-More power-ups like SMB3 suits, mini mushroom, penguin, etc
-Hint boxes like in SMW
-Koopalings
I thought there was a Gameboy theme already or I’m misremembering OR I dreamt about it…
To anyone who planned of gettining Wolfenstein Youngblood it’s literally just a box with a voucher in it.
1TB micro SD card revealed at electronics show. MSRP for it is $449.99. A 512gb version will launch the same day for $199.99
BS, they lost my purchase unless the Switch version is priced down as well.
New Leisure Suit Larry game Trailer.
I don’t mind the art style. It’s actually pretty charming. I just hate the idea of another Leisure Suit Larry game after the last few were so. fucking. awful.
They will never make a Leisure Suit Lary like they did in the 80s. Those originals make the new ones tame.
The originals weren’t even that graphic in content. They were adult themed in humor and setting but they weren’t even that vulgar or pornagraphic in nature, really . They were hugely slapstick and just fucking silly.
One of Al Lowe’s main points of contention was showing that adult themed games do t have to be actually adult themed or super serious or super violent. They can still be silly and fun.
@Stuart_Hayden If you want a straight beat 'em up on the Switch there is 99Vidas. There’s a demo of it and I liked what I played. Its still on my Wish List of many Switch games I need to pick up.
