I never considered Mighty Number 9 as a “AAA” title

If we’re talking about in comparison to GTA or Metal Gear Solid V, sure. It’s not AAA.

But it’s a game that got a multi-platform physical release. That’s a prestigious achievement in this day and age when most small titles are digital-only…

…which should have been the route they took Might No. 9 in. If they didn’t sink a good chunk of time/money into making it playable on PS4, Xbone and Wiiu and just digitally released it to one of those consoles initially, it probably would’ve been a much better game.

Everyone always forgets Shovel Knight and Shantae took the Kickstarter route and delivered big time.

CON MAN and Mighty No. Scam have no excuse.

  1. Shantae was a much, much smaller project on every conceivable level.
  2. You feeling good about that word play?

If you think Mighty No.9’s budget constitutes being called a AAA title you really need to rethink things. $3 mil is a lot for an indie title but it’s a fucking drop in the pond compared to the cost of AAA titles. Witcher 3 is what I would consider the floor of AAA development costs and that game cost a total of $81 million to develop.

Edit: Does that mean Mighty No.9 is excused? Fuck no! They still handled the budget atrociously. It was clearly completely mishandled from a management and communication standpoint and I definitely don’t think Inti Create is solely to blame as they’ve displayed competence in creating solid titles over a short timespan with a limited budget. For example the recent Blaster Master Zero was developed in six months by a team of 35 people.

Not gonna lie when I saw the latest trailer for Super Mario Odyssey it was the first time I was ever struck with the same feeling of wonder like when I saw Mario 64. It definitely looks like they captured lightning in a bottle with this one.

The vibe for odyssey has me hype. Not to crap on the last few mario games but ever since the transition from 2D to 3D games like 3D world seemed off to me. As the design while still great felt different from the fully 3D mario games.

Hahahaha Might #9 is not triple A, not by a fucking long shot.

That’s pretty much exactly what I’m saying. They tried to make a overly big game on a small budget. $3 million isn’t enough to make a good game that gets released on eight platforms, with most getting a physical release. That was just an overly ambitious move that doesn’t necessarily disqualify Inti from making good games in the future.

There’s an alternate universe out there where Mighty No. 9 was developed exclusively for the Playstation Store and I’d bet cash money that it turned out way better than what we got.

Being able to change menu colors to inverted might be the weirdest system feature on a videogame system I’ve seen in a while.

What, Black and White?
The PSP, Vita and the 3DS said Hi

I mean this:

Also I just realized by googling this video that it affects the games, too, not only the system menu. Last time I’ve seen this was on GBC.

I have to try Thumper like this.

Welp looks like it’s time for me to eat shit.

ARMS is selling far better than I expected in Japan. Over 122k copies sold so far in it’s first few days (via Famitsu stats which includes download cards).
To put this into perspective that’s more than SFV’s and Tekken 7’s first week sales combined. And the best opening week sales for a fighter since Tekken 6 and Vanilla SF4, which were on two consoles at launch.

It’s not quite the blowup success that Splatoon was (~150k on first week) but it ain’t far off. It should also be noted that Nintendo has a stranglehold in Japan right now, dominating the charts in both software and hardware sales.

Still waiting to see how it does in the west however.

That’s crazy! It’s got to be pretty confusing to tell what type of shell you get, lol.

Any of you pick up Shantae Half Genie? Is it any good? I was looking for a new game to pick up for the Switch and I remember hearing about it. Okay, well, I was actually looking for a Metroid style 2d game, but I don’t think any are out on the Switch.

Shantae is a Metroid style 2D game. Shantae herself handles more like a Castlevania character but in the end it’s based on Metroid design.

It’s also pretty good but they’ll be releasing a bunch of DLC during the coming months so it might be a good idea to wait until the physical release is out as that might have them included. You could always play the game that came before (Pirate’s Curse) in the meantime which is the best in the series so far in my opinion.

You know that super happy, catchy song from Super Mario Odyssey “Jump Up, Super Star!”? Bulby did an 8-bit version of it.

Picked up arms for my son today.

Man Nintendo really did knock it out of the park with this system. Had the switch up by the pool and a gang of 10-13 year olds was taking turns having a ball with the game. I won’t say how I feel about the short time I’ve had with the game but they really did make a great mobile party system.

I have this for my Vita. It’s great. Lot of fun, has good maps to explore, controls well, music is great, and graphics are very charming. Hope the DLC comes to Vita, might have to rebuy the game for PS4 lol.
