The Nintendo Switch Thread! - Deadly Premonition 2: Blessing in Disguise 7/10 - Paper Mario: The Origami King 7/17

I’m just talking about how Super Mario Allstars was the first “hd collection” game basically in existence (at least that I can recall, I could be wrong), and it was a hit. Nintendo made boatloads of cash off of very little work because their loyal customers double dipped.

And now look at the current gen (not just nintendo, consoles in general). It is basically generation “HD remake”. There have never been so many HD remakes. And why not? People are dumb and will buy the same game multiple times on different consoles. The companies put in little effort to make the remakes and they make boatloads of cash. They don’t have to come up with a story, assets, voice acting, animators, basically everything that costs a lot of money, to put out HD remakes, and then they sell them like hotcakes. I hate that about this gen.

But I got a Switch to play Nintendo exclusives that are out for the Switch, so I’m not too concerned about it. I just ignore all of these HD remakes.

/get off my lawn

What the fuck kind of Monkey D. Luffy reaching is this?

I play games and buy games I like to support. How hard is that to understand? I bought RE4 3 different times and played each version that came out. Bought RE5 on 360 and again when they brought it back out. Never owned copies of the older mario games (N64 and lower) and I bought them when they were available on the Wii and I may buy some again for the switch. I played Bayonetta on 360 and bought it for Wii U. I have never been duped nigga…I know what I get into buying an HD remake remaster whatever.

you bought re5 twice? jeez man… learn from your mistakes

To be fair, they did a buncha reprogramming in Super Mario All Stars. The games don’t play exactly the same - they’re rebuilt from the ground up. You notice it in stuff that’s just a little off compared to the NES games, like how you crash through the bricks rather than bounce off them as you hit them.

Sometimes HD remakes add a lot. Try playing the original Metal Gear Solid 3 without the camera controls, or playing the PS2 version of Shadow of the Colossus with that juddery framerate.

Two very neat games on the Switch right now are remakes. Blaster Master Zero and Wonder Boy: Dragon’s Trap are both really worthwhile for the new stuff they bring in.

Still holding off on Mario Kart 8 until I find it for cheap or I find people in real life who are likely to play it regularly with me. My local aquaintainces aren’t very gamey.

And you are an example of the point i’m proving - people will double/triple dip on games so why WOULDN’T they put them out. Make one game, sell it to someone 3x, make $150 instead of $50. They make money for minimal effort. It would be stupid not to, which is why you see a ton of other companies following suit this generation, and it started last gen too.

Nowhere did I say people are being “duped” or anything like that. Stop getting offended at everything like everyone does now a days.

The examples of “adding a lot” you give aren’t expensive to do though. As I said earlier, they are reusing assets, maps, voices, etc. Making a better frame rate on more powerful hardware is not hard to do. Neither is camera controls. That’s all just technical stuff that doesn’t require a lot of man power to do. If you look at credits of games, the VAST majority of the people listed in the hundreds of credits are NOT programmers. All you need to do the technical stuff you mentioned in your examples is have people change code.

sheeeeit, Super Mario All-Stars was THE SHIT™ back then on SNES, man… they bumped up the graphics so it actually looked like something that was visually worth being on the SNES…and besides, it was all the previous 8-bit era SMB games on one cartridge, including the Lost Levels…it was too good for any Mario fan to pass up at the time. Because of All-Stars…it’s really tough to go back and play those games in their original form… the All-Stars versions were visually superior.

*thinking about that again just now… I probably would NOT have bought Mario All-Stars back then if they were just straight ports with the same old graphics… 8-bit was already “ugly” by that point.

On another note–I just made another Mii that I have named “SNOT RAG”… I tried to make him look a bit like he was made out of snot and boogers…but the customization options here are terribly limited.

I could say the same for you from multiple threads you post on here. You are one of the most dumbass individuals on here and that’s saying something. You give Dab00g a run for his dumbass money. Yes I said RE5, NOT 6. Stay ignorant and hatin’

I’ll be up front…First off fuck you for being bitchmade and complaining about how others should spend their money. Second, games I love I usually buy a physical copy of when I can but throughout time, my copies of games get lost or break so in order to keep some version of it, I buy it again down the line. RE5 is a digital copy I bought for 10 bucks in a sale NOT 50 like you believe. I bought RE4 ALSO for 10. I paid for my GCN copy for 25 years ago. I rented Majora’s Mask and was GIFTED MM for my 3DS. I bought OoT and gave my old N64 copy to my Nephew and later bought for 3DS OoT. I never bought a Copy of CoD:MW1 because at the time I worked for Activision and never needed to buy one. I later bought a copy before leaving the company for 5 bucks. I can keep going on but point is, nigga you can’t even figure out how much one pays for a game. Third, I’m not offended by anything you say but I am calling you out because YOU’RE the one bitching about HD remakes like companies are forcing you to buy them.

Forth, you called people dumb…While not duped, you’re insulting people for the choices they make with their money. Fith and fianlly, you have no concept of production costs/time/labor yet easily say it’s not hard to update a game…ever tried to do so?

Fuck no, The worst thing you can do is remake the classic NES, SNES, Gabe Boy, GBC and GBA games.
Maybe the N64 titles as they aged badly.

If I go and pick up Contra for the NES, I want Contra for the NES and not some shallow remake made by someone who never even touched a NES before.

i hit a nerve, id be mad if i bought re5 twice too tho

sheeeit, I’m sure it’s a tired old thing that many players have done at some point since Miis became a thing…but I had to go on and make one too, just to see the result… I made a Hitler Mii…and right after that I made a Donald Trump one. It’s funny to see what others have made over the years, as I look it up online—people like Osama bin Laden, Stalin… all in Mii form.

hmm… maybe a George Carlin one… or a George Jefferson…damn I wish they had that Modnation Racers-level of customization options, then I could really make some magic happen here.

Not really…I stand by my choice…a shame your mom didn’t stand by hers and let you live. At least keep your stupidity to the 'Murrica thread. :murica:

What’s wrong with RE5? When did that become a bad game lol.

The moment your buddy left and you had to deal with A.I. Sheva.

It’s also just kind of an inferior RE4.

Fuck I’ll double dip for all kinds of games on the Switch as it gives me the two things no other home console has given me, time to attack long ass games on my lunch break and multiplayer sessions at the pub.

That and some gamecube games I missed are rare as fuck now, fuck paying over £100 for fire emblem.

re5 twice tho

Snaking and fire hopping isn’t some gimmick people were relying on to beat the competition. All top competitive racers and all the time trial record holders all learned the track and learned how to think and race well. I myself feel I am really good at that. Right down to having a better understanding than most of the people I raced against online when it came down to things like holding back in positions to get the items I need and then racing up and having a plan for when the blue shell came. And when I played with my casual mates I never bothered with any of the gimmicky shit. But when you really want a balls out fun race with people who know all that stuff and know how to use the gimmicks it was nice that it was there. It gave the game more substance on a higher level. I don’t think fire hopping was an exploit. On account of all the last few generations having some sort of go faster mechanic in the game. To many people who couldn’t learn the gimmicks, purely because they couldn’t be bothered to, complained about loosing to people online who took the game more seriously than them and Nintendo cut it out of the new version to please them. One of the reasons 8 did so well was because it was one of the more competitive versions to date. And it has unfortunately been killed. The gimmick was easy to perform and took seconds to learn. The skill came in being able to use them at the right times. I will still enjoy the game. It is one of my favorite franchises. But I will enjoy it even more when somebody figures out what the new gimmicks will be. Because the reason I don’t play any other racing games, is that there is so little for my hands to do.

I think people talking about it as a skill gap or a ceiling is the wrong way to do it because all the people who just weren’t competitive look at it like the competitive crowed were just saying that they are better. Which they are, but it doesn’t need to be said. I can’t accept how anybody playing a game that has a first place and a last place wouldn’t put in the effort to be first every single time. Especially our fellow FG players. The competition and being better than everybody else is the best part of Kart. And anybody who wanted to just see the pretty colors and have fun online with their children should have been given a separate lobby where they could play without the competitive people. And the ones who cared about the game and the core dynamic of what racing is could have been able to play in their own lobby.

Snaking in mkds was broken. You either did it or lost that was the problem. I hate how they changed mini turbos but the game is better off for removing mkds snaking

I stand by my choice to spend 50 for both games. You haven’t even explained why it was bad. But hey you’re slow so I can wait…
